This was an ad for sleep doctor. 🙄 And the actual "sleep doctor" you spoke to seemed more like a sales consultant. Do you actually have sleep apnea? Do you really need a CPAP machine? Doubtful

Exactly! I was about to say that this sounds like a conversation with a sales rep rather than a doctor

Dude you need to move out of NYC. It's clear you have to take these sponsor deals to keep up your current living situation. Your videos used to be really good, now almost every one is some half-assed sponsor ad with no unique or interesting content added.

Definitely interested to see if the CPAP machine makes a difference. It seems as though this company is more of an avenue to sell the machines than address sleep issues. Mouth taping or sleep apnea mouth guards could be a more cost effective option depending on severity.

Custom sleep apnea mouth guards cost 4x more than an APAP, but are way more effective. Can cause head gear effect, however, pushing the upper jaw back into the face and exacerbating the issue longterm.

This seems like a horrible test. When you go to a sleep lab they have monitors all over you. How do they know that restlessness is not from restless legs syndrome or something different? They are definitely just trying to sell you a cpap machine. I’m not saying you might not need one but this test seemed very inaccurate compared to one run in a sleep lab.
@kylekermgard
@kylekermgard 2 месяца назад
It is, but this test is similar to a take home sleep test sleep doctors will give you since insurance companies don't want to pay for a full sleep test in a lab. It'll diagnose apnea and that's about it.

How many events per hour did you have per hour? What was your heart rate? Did you see any major spikes or dips? I'm not impressed with that doctor and quite frankly you. You usually do a good job of educating but this video seemed rushed. I have sleep apnea and it was alarming when I got my sleep study. I have moderate sleep apnea (17 events per hour). My heart rate would drop to the high 40s and then spike to the 120s. My CPAP machine was life-changing. I wake up feeling rested and energized. No more headaches or brain fog. Plus sleep apnea messes with your hormones.

I recently got diagnosed with sleep apnea and I went to a sleep clinic and I now use a CPAP machine Resmed 11 and let me tell you it’s a game changer for me I sleep an entire night without waking up, I feel way more refreshed during the day. I was someone who thought I will never use one of those… I certainly look at it a lot differently now.

I have that Resmed with the nasal over the head she showed you. GAME CHANGER!! 20 years ago I took a sleep test and decided I didn't want to sleep on a machine. Dumb move! After COVID almost took me out, I had to go to get a sleep Study. After I got my machine, I now realized why I was chronically tired. Fight sleep at stop lights, nodding of at work. It was bad. Now I finally get the rest I need and kick myself for not having done this 20 years ago. Probably missed out on tons of energy and productivity because of it. The change was so stark that I can absolutely tell when I'm away without my machine in just one night or two how tired I feel. So yes. Would love to see you expound on your findings.

Hi Shervin, I started using a CPAP machine about 1.5 months ago after undergoing the same sleep test you did. Initially, I was skeptical about its benefits since I didn't notice any immediate changes. However, after a little over a month, it's truly transformed my life. Not only is my girlfriend thrilled that I no longer snore, but I also wake up feeling refreshed, with no brain fog and an overall sense of wellbeing. The most significant improvement is that I'm less groggy in the mornings and feel better throughout the day. Whenever I discuss it with people, they seem intrigued, though the idea of committing to sleep with a mask is daunting for many. Despite that, I believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. The major downside for me is the thought of needing to sleep with a mask for the rest of my life, especially since I'm under 30 and very fit, like you. However, the overall improvement in my quality of life is undeniable. Good luck with your journey! By the way, I'd recommend the P30i sleep pillows from ResMed. They attach to the top of your head rather than the front, allowing you to sleep on your stomach comfortably.

I am always hesitant about things like this. I want to get tested and see but I also understand they are a business and they have every incentive to tell me I need a 1000 dollar machine. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Going to suggest staying clear of Philips. They are in the middle of a lawsuit because of a poor decision to use dangerous chemicals (isocyanates) in some of the materials, which broke down during use, and were inhaled. Did they address it by now? Likely. Does that change my opinion of them? Nope.

Even in-office sleep lab tests can be extremely inaccurate. Lots of false negative potential.

Shervin, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about a year ago. My Apple Watch alerted me I had AFib (I immediately, went to the ER per the Teladoc call), and the ER doctor told me to see a cardiologist. But the most important thing he stressed was to do a sleep study. I followed up with all the doctors and finished the sleep study. I had sleep apnea. Prior to all of this happening, I was constantly tired. No matter how many hours of sleep I got, I would wake up exhausted. It took about six months of wearing the sleep apnea machine to finally see relief. Now I wake up rested as long as I get eight hours of sleep. Airsense 11 with a full face mask is what worked for me. It has humidity as well so your throat doesn’t dry out. Hope this helps.

Hi Sherwin, I love your content! Here’s my CPAP experience that started in November 2023. I was highly determined to make it work because apnea made me desperate for a good night’s sleep. My health insurance pays for machine rental and regular replacement of all the peripherals every 90 days. Starting therapy is frustrating because it isn’t very sexy and the mask is a trial and error process until you find the right one. My absolute favorite so far is the Resmed F40 nasal pillow mask. After getting a decent mask and working with my doc to make machine pressure adjustments, I began to sleep much better. After about 90 days or regular use, it improved my daily workouts and energy throughout the day! Best of luck, this isn’t a quick fix and it’s not perfect. However it is a a journey that can end well :) PS… I travel a lot and carrying equipment along with finding distilled water is challenging. I wish hotels would offer small bottles for guest stays.

Good on you for getting your sleep checked. I assume that more people have sleep apnea than we realize. I don't know how legit it is to have an at-home sleep test followed up by an online consultation rather than going to an actual sleep clinic and having a sleep doctor who will keep track of your progress throughout the year. However, good on you for at least taking the first step. I would also make sure that your medical insurance will cover the bulk of your CPAP equipment, because my insurance refuses to cover it because some some stupid way that the CPAP equipment company is submitting their claims, and it's been a hassle trying to get things straightened out. So, in the meantime, having to pay full price ($400 a month) has been rough financially.

I struggle with staying asleep. I tend to always wake up at the same time 3am most nights. Sometimes it is earlier but it is rare that I sleep through the night. My Garmin body battery often reflects the fact that I did not have a restful sleep by a low battery body score and usually HRV is low.

It’s strange that a supposed physician gave him a choice. The people I know that have one were told “you need a full face because…”. She just seemed like a sales person.
@astroranger5528
@astroranger5528 2 месяца назад
@@SuperAaron99 It's not really unusual, patient compliance is important, no point telling him to where one or the other, if he's not going to be compliant and wear it. She gave him options, and what could be done if he was a mouth breather, like the tape, chin strap etc - also, we saw a few minutes of an appointment, that was edited - we have no idea what the full consultation was like.
@SuperAaron99
@SuperAaron99 2 месяца назад
@@astroranger5528 I guess. What I know about these is that nose masks do not work for everyone, and not everyone needs a full face mask. That’s why the doctor makes a recommendation.

The silent doom of most peoples health. Sleep apnea comes in many different shapes and sizes but its believed that 75% of males world wide have some form of sleep apnea ranging from mild to severe. There is also a lesser known form of sleep disordered breathing called UARS. The thing that tanks most people sleep is breathing problem during sleep, I believe this is the single biggest health issue most people have.
