Thanks for your service! 100%, get everything in writing. I was a Recruiter for many years and I would have never even thought about telling someone they’d be getting a bonus if that wasn’t true…that would just completely destroy your reputation. However, there’s always going to be those onesie and twosies out there that do the wrong thing unfortunately.

@@SFCBEITZ Yes the job I picked, 12N, had bonuses available for SLRP. at MEPS, the liaison said my job had the bonus and it is mentioned on contract, He told me to talk to the unit commander once I get to my assigned unit. it does say I’m entitled to it but this is my first time and I haven’t even shipped out yet. So I have no clue what I’ve actually signed, I hope it was something that grants me those bonuses.

@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ Год назад
I’d say he’s probably being honest. They don’t update the website as frequently as bonuses change! When you go to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) to enlist, just make sure you get the bonus paperwork in your contract. MEPS is safe and they’re not there to screw anyone over. I guarantee if I would have re-enlisted at MEPS, I would have gotten my bonus. However, I did a “field reenlistment” and that was the mistake I made. I didn’t know better at the time.

You can change careers even on the spot with a bigger bonus just for asking. Whatever you sign that day is all that matters. Nothing any recruiter or higher up says

SFC Beitz, through the years I've worked with soldiers, sailors, Airmen and Marines. The ONLY branch that I've heard about recruiter scamming is the Army. Am I missing something or what? Second question is what happens to a recruiter who consistently misses his/her quota?
@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ Год назад
Thanks for your service in helping our troops! So, the Army created this program years ago where if a servicemember referred a friend, and that friend enlisted, the servicemember would receive a $2000 referral bonus. That ended up creating the biggest financial scandal in military history (that I’m aware of). Recruiters were not allowed to refer recruits to each other, no recruiter was allowed to receive monies from this because that was their job, to recruit soldiers. Well, Recruiters started finding people to join, and then they’d talk to another soldier and say, hey look, I’m going to say you referred this person to me, and you’ll get the $2,000 referral bonus and then we can split that money 50/50 (because the soldier had no idea who the person “they” referred was). This method took off like wild fire. Eventually CID got wind of this and started investigating - this investigation was huge and took years and years to complete. Many Recruiters were fired, lots of soldiers were reprimanded, and of course the incentive was shut down…which was a shame for those of us who were using it like it was supposed to be used. It was such a helpful tool. Anyway, I think the Army has just been caught more than other branches. There’s always going to be those onesie and twosies that are doing something shady. As a leader of Recruiters in the Guard, I told my Recruiters to treat every applicant like they’d want their son or daughter treated if they were looking to join. Generally, if a Recruiter doesn’t meet their quota for a month, they’ll get a counseling. Two months, another counseling. Three months, they’ll probably get put on mandatory hours, they’ll have mandatory tasks to complete each day set by their team leader, they’ll get counseled, their team leader will probably work with them several times a week, etc. Now, if the Recruiters mission was 20 for a year, and they put in 22 in 9 months, and don’t put anyone in for the last 3 months of the year, they likely will face no negative consequences. It’s really a case by case basis.

So what form do I need to have in black and white? I'm thinking about bringing a lawyer to meps with me
@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ Год назад
You don't need to bring an attorney to MEPS; there's a couple bonus forms that they will provide you at MEPS that specifically state your bonus amount and how it'll be paid out. When I re enlisted, it wasn't at MEPS (I wish it would have been). You don't re enlist at MEPS. You don't need to be worried about getting tricked at MEPS. My reenlistment was just through a super shady Recruiter. I just trusted his word and the documents we completed. Then I was sworn in by an Officer but the Officer had nothing to do with my paperwork. He just swore me in and signed my oath of enlistment and left. He was only with us for 10 minutes. He didn't review my reenlistment packet, that's not part of his job.

@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ Год назад
Honestly, a lot of Marines get out of the Marines and join the Army or Army National Guard because the treatment in the Marines can be a bit harsh…that was my experience as a recruiter at least. I’d say about 80% of the prior service guys I enlisted were coming from the Marines and they all had similar stories. They got treated like sh*t but they loved serving…but they wanted to be apart of an organization that was more caring about the soldier and their family…and yes, you can get up to $50,000 in bonuses from the Army, which is a whole lot of money, so I’d highly suggest at least looking into the Army. Matter of fact, when you talk to the Army, tell them you’ve been planning on joining the Marines, but you wanted to hear what the Army offers…then the recruiter might look harder into finding you some extra perks (bonus or extra incentives).

I just recruited for 12 years, that’s not how it works. If I told someone I was going to get them a bonus, and put it in black and white, and they didn’t get it, I would lose my job instantly. As a Recruiter, I never lied though. It’s not worth it because there are so many incentives to join that there’s no point of lying. The person can take it or leave it.
@SFCBEITZ

@Marcus Marcus after I got out of the Regular Army, I joined the Army Reserve; not too long later I transferred from the Reserve to the National Guard. My National Guard Recruiter asked me if I would be interested in working with him for a month, just helping him work events and finding potential recruits. I said yes. I worked with him for 30 days and then he was able to get my orders extended for another 60 days. While I was working with him, I got an offer to work a different full time job in logistics and they guaranteed me the job for at least 3 years - the recruiting job was eventually going to end and they didn't have permanent jobs available at the time...so I took the logistics job. I worked the logistics job for several years (and built a good reputation for myself) but it was getting kind of stale, so I started looking at Recruiting opportunities. I eventually applied for a Recruiting position, and they hired me (because my interview went good but also since I did a really good job in logistics and had letters of recommendation from my leadership there). I was on temporary orders for a year trying to get on permanent orders. Another state offered me permanent orders and a PCS move where they paid for my full move, so I took that offer. The location where I was on temporary orders tried to get me to stay and offered me permanent orders, but they didn't do that until they knew I had an offer elsewhere, so I declined. I will make a more detailed video about this in the future!
