The blond actor in Die Monster Die, Nick Adams has an interesting story. He wss in Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean and was one of the first actors to be scandalized in the tabloids for his unsavory behavior. He was rumoured to be involved in a homosexual relationship with James Dean and the King himself, Elvis Presley. He was also accused of being someone who takes advantage of Hollywood stars in order to further his own stardom. After James Dean died he did many interviews about his friendship with him, and wrote a book about it. His Wikipedia page has all the dirt, I forget all the details but I got the impression that Nick Adams was quite the character.

I like how the village is called Arkham, the family is called "Whitley" (close to "Whateley") and there is a cult of the old ones. Terrible film takes influence from H.P. Lovecraft and then does nothing interesting with it. I guess they couldn't resist turning Boris Karloff into some kind of glowing Frankenstein's monster at the end.

When he was walking to the house, I thought of “the blasted heath” from Colour out of Space. The family being shunned and having book referencing a cult that worshipped “the outer ones” was also a pretty obvious reference. And the Mark just flat out said that it was based on the story. Good effort considering the effects and sensibilities of the time.

I can see this as being related to "A Color out of Space". I noticed the Arkham sign in the beginning when he arrives. The story of an American going to England and finding weird shit going down in an old English mansion could also be a reference to "The Rats in the Walls". Except in that one it's the American's ancestral home and not his fiancé's family home, but still.

Love when someone comments that they love mark editing himself into the movie.

Mark, I watched this recently and never made the Lovecraft connection until you pointed it out and I noticed the references (the "Arkham" sign and the family's last name).

Blood pose from every part of the body is classic! But even better is the LPL reference!

Vladimir Putin was so traumatised by his performance as Steve, he immediately joined the KGB.

Is it a good movie?

@@raam726 if you like Lovecraft story pacing. As shown in the video, it is pretty slow and builds its mystery very well. I'm not sure whether it's worth watching if you already know the finale, but Mark did skip through a lot of scenes fairly quickly. If you're fine with the pacing it should be a good watch.

I saw this movie back in the 70's and I think it was on Dr. Shock's show that played B horror movies with skits before and during commercial breaks. Good ol' Dr. Shock introduced me to horror and this movie was my introduction into H.P. Lovecraft with the fictional town of Arkham!

The doctor who drinks a lot at 3:30 is actor Patrick Magee, who also played the wheelchair-bound writer in Clockwork Orange who trapped Alex in the room with Beethoven blaring. And the bike shop owner at 2:48 is Paul Farrell, who was also in Clockwork Orange, playing the bum under the bridge the Droogs beat up..

Best quick getaway line is "I think I left the gas on" and bonus points if you're in a country like this one where there generally isn't gas infrastructure like that.
