Thankfully the Arena lists don't include names, so we aren't dunking on anyone in specific, if we're dunking on anyone it's generic Platinum-Mythic Ranked Player.
I sometimes build half a sideboard when I'm first building a deck and then play some games and focus on what cards i wished I had in the sideboard in those games to add the final cards, might have been something like that
Half my MTGO modern decks don't have sideboards, just to test a shell out. If I think the deck has any potential for fun, I'll then start working on a sideboard to play more competatively.
I feel like the weirdest part is that the removed shrine is the green shrine but they were perfectly fine with keeping the white shrine. Personally the white shrine feels like the worst of all the shrines.
Sadly, I have to agree with you. I honestly hate the card so much, no matter the format it's in. It's just such a feelsbad card. It's even worse then Teferi 5 in my opinion.
@@cleanartcollective I don't think that's true. It's terribly easy with any midrange deck to just kill threats and draw cards (using mazemind tome if not in blue/green) and win the game
yeahhh...I made and streamed a "mono green budget ramp" deck that only had 3 Ugin and 3 Nissa as the rares/mythics and that's only because it's such an easy payoff to get to.
I feel like we're not really settled on a name for this series yet so I'd like to suggest "holy grail or total fail" Fun video though - really enjoyed this one
I think a lot of these decks could be understood as a player clicking on the wrong format, assuming the cards with "!" had just been banned, and then replacing them rather than double-check that they were in their preferred format.
@MTGGoldfish An answer to how these decks 6-0: there are lots of people playing Arena on any given day. Some of them might be just experimenting with decks, or finishing quests or what-not. I'm not sure how good plat is, but if the answer is only "ok," then there are probably 1000s of people playing leagues with meme decks on any given day. So if the only way they win is to have all their opponents disconnect, then that will still happen to a couple of people every day. As to why they make partial sideboards: To have a sideboard, you need to have a side-board *plan*. I think if you make a random sideboard, and *you know what you are doing* that's better then no sideboard. But If I only know when I'll bring in pacifism, then having a bunch off rando cards that I need to think about every game 2 is just more effort for me.
Plat is the lowest "real" rank, which means you can just about stumble your way in there if you understand how the game works but don't necessarily play to win. Diamond is where it starts to get sweaty.
The irony is I couldn't fall asleep with this. Its a sad time, but great video. Also I noticed that standard is just Gruul Adventures, i thought that you were just in one LOOOONG match
My bet would be the Ugins and Legion Angels are because the person who built the deck was afraid the deck didn't have enough wincons with just the black shrine alone. They probably had some games where the black shrine got removed or something and they were unable to win or decked themselves so they just jammed Ugin because it's a powerful Planeswalker. I kind of fell into the same trap when I played pre-Yorion Doom Foretold. I jammed a bunch of random Planeswalkers like little Ugin and Liliana in my deck because I wasn't confident in my deck's ability to win just off the back of out-grinding the opponent into submission. I kept having games where I would run my opponent out of cards, then they'd topdeck removal for my one wincon and then my deck would do nothing and they would eventually draw out of the lock or I'd run myself out of cards before I could close out the game.
As someone who has several decks with half side boards, for me it’s always when I’m net decking and don’t have the rare’s or mythic‘s yet. Which makes it even funnier to think that they put up a deck as a recommended version that was a net deck by someone who didn’t have a whole collection.
I think Ugin is in the deck because Sactum of All let's you get Shrines from the Graveyard back to the battlefield. I built a Sisay Shrines EDH deck and it's actually kinda powerful. Super stoked to see the new Shrines in Kamigawa
I make partial sideboards for my best of one decks when I'm tuning them, that way I don't have to scroll back through the card lists to find the next pieces I want to try out. That's the only explanation I can think of for that particular sideboard
I can't for the life of me understand why there isn't a green shrine, lmao. Or why there's an Ugin in the main :P But I guess it really is true - in a world where Ugin is around, if you aren't running him you probably aren't going to win...
@@AricHaldan0782 True, but not even one? Would explain the sideboard as well maybe. Didn't have Deck finished and just played anyway to grind for those sweet sweet wild cards.
@@felixeisenmenger1914 yeah that's what I'm thinking. It might also just be a case of wanting to play this deck for fun, but simply not feeling like it was worth spending any wildcards on.
I always build sideboard that way - i play bo3 without it, get beaten, see whats lackign and slowly add cars to the sideboard. The guy just had a great run WHILE still building his deck xd.
I don't think people complain about Rogues because of the Rogues themselves. It's the combination of counter spells and mill that everyone plays with the Rogue decks. If you just threw in random black and blue creatures with the normal cards that go into the Rogue's deck, you'd still get people hating that deck.
Not even the mill part-that's sorta interesting. It's more so the access to a two mana counter anything that also kills anything and a four mana draw four.
Mill is part of it, because as someone playing against Mill, it's boring, and aims to keep you from playing your cards at all, just like control. But yeah, the two mana counter and kill all your stuff every turn is probably the biggest reasons. Again though, the Rogues have nothing to do with it. You could play ninjas or aetherborn, or any other blue/black creatures with the Rogue shell, and it'll probably irritate most of your opponents, and people would complain about that deck.
I can see Ugin go -4 and exile all but 5C shrine and than you just rebuild with that, but this only make sense if you have the green shrine and you can ramp out ugin turn 5/6
Actually 8 card sideboards are strictly better than full sideboards, its the new tech. Also, I think we can -3 the ugin with banishing light out, then in response to the trigger flash in priest. Or does that only work with the O ring wording?
Lol I clicked the video cause when I glanced at it really quick I thought it was a video of someone using Blender and modeling something, I was sure bamboozled Q.Q , I guess I haven't watched any magic in a long time, might as well :P
Yeah. I just assumed it was in there because why *wouldn't* you play it? But, it's Meme or Dream, so who knows why anyone does anything with some of these decks?
@3:00 sometimes I get bored or my add takes over or whatever, but I'll build have a sideboard with a new deck that I'm working on. Sometimes I'll just leave the open spots and try to think about what is missing when I'm sideboarding. Then I take a note, and add it after the game. But I've stopped brewing bo3 and moved completely into brewing bo1 because I find that I love using my sideboard as a wishboard.
It would have been funny if the series became known as "meme or dream - formerly known as jank or dank" to go along with "Seth - probably better known as SaffronOlive"
My big problem with rogues is that it's an aggro deck with mill win plan and dedicated control cards for it. I'm playin against an aggro control and midrange deck all in one and its a lot more painful, especially since any answers I have are just milled away.
it's platinum rank or better, but... arena's ladder rank is divorced from ELO which is used for matchmaking. so I'd take the "platinum or better" with a grain of salt.
@@DEV-Plays to be fair, you can`t take any rating on arena seriously because of the non-random matchmaking. If I remember correctly, when the last bannings happened they wrote that they have a rigged matchmaking for Brawl, so the decks would be of somewhat the same level. It is to assume that some cards have a special rating ( my guess would be the most played Mythics like Muxxus, Uro etc.) so decks that have those cards will be paired against certain other decks that contain specific cards.
Half a sideboard only makes sense to me if they're wish targets or they built the deck specifically to play against buddies and that's all they needed for their meta...
Ah, first game, first punt. As soon as I saw you play the shrine instead of the Zagath Triome in your hand I knew you'd forgotten to check your mana XD But yeah, this deck does not run green shrine = what. It seems to just run jank and hope that it catches people. You could just run good low cmc removal instead of their dumb jank and set yourself up to actually deal with things.
The green shrine is the only shrine that does absolutely nothing for you, which is probably why it isn't there. Ramp doesn't help you win the game, draw you into a win, or remove threats, like all of the other shrines do. I am surprised theres not at least a singleton in there though just for the big shrine to double trigger/get to ugin
Well, lowering your rare/mythic count could actually be a viable strategy on Arena for improving winrates, since matchmaking checks your rarity count and pits you against similar rarity decks
Pacifism works great against rogues. Why would you keep the Ugins, Seth? Their milling effect relies on them attacking. Pacifism is also cheap bait against counters. Just put in all the removal you can against rogues, and there's very little they can do without mill spells.
Isn't this an example that every random pile of cards with boardwipes and planeswalkers can win "just because"? This is why I stoped playing Arena. Oh, and rigged draws.
Fun games but yeah the deck isn't even salvageable. If you want to play shrines, just start from scratch and just ignore this thing. Half sideboard, horrendous mana, dead guns and containment priests... Big oof
