I feel like The One Ring is doing something similar to Mental Misstep, where regardless of what deck you're playing, you need four of them in it or you're at an automatic handicap against any deck that is playing it. It's literally format warping. But I don't know if WotC can feasibly ban it due to its headlining nature.
@@maikocat That's not entirely true, one ring is too slow for most agro decks, But for midrange you're 100% right. Even though he did win the one match with only 3 mana, that's an exception not a rule
@@toolittletoolate That's a good point. Mental Misstep being essentially a free spell meant it could go in literally any deck. The One Ring being 4 mana would be more expensive than aggro decks want with their low curve. But yah, outside of aggro, any deck that plans to last more than 4 turns would want it.
I sometimes watch soccer highlights to warm up, even though I don't really care about soccer. They have some awesome announcers. Just need a card that will let me say "Gooooooooooooal."
I mean, the have to ban the one ring eventually. But the card is not that broken by itself. If just that buy you a turn (against normal wincons) is too strong to make a engine work.
Not the point of the deck, but it does demonstrate why The One Ring should be banned. It's not really connected to anything in the deck. It's just so good it just goes into any deck. Smuggler's Copter was banned for less.
It's connected in the way that you don't die to your ring nearly as fast as the other decks that play it, especially since Sorin cares about the amount of life gained this turn, not your life total, this deck is best suited for paying life for cards, and it's easier on the mana than a Necro
The one ring is a hard card to see. Its busted, yes. But is defensive busted, you can still disrupt your op gameplay and win anyways against most decks. In my opinion if the one ring show us something gameplay wise is how different some formats feels when X deck cant take the game against Y deck in the right turn.
11:48 is a really cool magic puzzle! Play ocelot pride, extort - 3 life gained (from soul sisters and extort) - 3 mana remaining, gain 1 more energy Attack with Guide of Souls, deal 3 damage with flying in the air - 3 mana, 0 energy, opponent at 11 Second main phase, pitch march of otherworldly light / suncleanser to solitude, targeting the buffed flyer. extort - 2 mana left in response to the evoke trigger, cast swords to plowshares targeting solitude, extort, 0 mana left 3 life from flyer, 3 life from solitude, 3 life from extort, 5 life from soul sisters - 13 damage thanks to Sorin -1, plus 3 damage from the flyer is GG VERY cool little interactions there. Swords and solitude become lightning helix thanks to sorin, and we have just enough mana to do it!
I feel like the Planeswalker side of Sorin should have the static ability that turns all Blood tokens you control into Food Tokens and then the plus should make a Blood token.
I REALLY like this new Sorin. The fact that his "cost" for transforming is so little and the Payoff being so high makes him such a cool card. I'm definitely building a Commander deck around him
I play more historic than timeless, but I found that roaming throne works wonders in soul sisters. So many of the creatures are clerics that once you start multiplying the effects you get a 10 10 flying voice of the blessed before you can blink.
Well, it is right now. There are multiple decks doing really well that are not playing the ring. So if only the ring was banned, those decks would just completely take over the meta. Because the one ring isn't a card that makes the meta smaller rather there are a lot of decks that just wouldn't be able to compete with the powerful new toys.
I played the deck with a few changes. I removed 2 of "The One Ring" for "Esper Sentinel". And swapped the 4 "Revival // Revenge" for "Helping Hand". "Helping Hand" was great because of the 3 life. Was able to get back Sorin and flip that same turn. Esper Sentinel was really just so I wouldn't be stuck with multiple 4 drops in Hand. I think once the new set, Bloomborrow, is released. "Essence Channeler" could easily replace it.
I think Guide of Souls is a little cheaty since it *is* a Soul Sister, but yeah. The set actually offered a bunch of good in Soul Sister cards somehow.
The deck tech starts, I see the One Ring -sorry, the Four Ring - and I let out a long sigh. I'm interested in the content, but I'm sick of seeing that card.
I'm only 12 minutes in so I don't know if this happens later, but can you use Solitude and/or Swords to Plowshare on your own things to help Sorin deal more damage? For instance, at this 11:48 turn, I'm imaging a line where you play Ocelot Pride, gain 2 life and an energy, attack with the three power Suncleanser (from 14 to 11). Then, main phase 2, play Solitude (+2 life) targeting your three power Suncleanser to gain 3, and Swords to Plowshares the Solitude. You have enough to pay for each of the three Extort costs as well for 3 more damage and 3 more life. So then Sorin can hit for 13, for a total of 19 damage that turn. Not sure if I did that correctly, please correct if necessary.
Soul Sisters will forever be my favorite Modern Architype, it was what I could afford to play when I was in college and it would get me a few top 4s at my LGS modern nights. Hope wizards has the nerve to bring Soul Attendant to arena.

I run a few Sorin in my mono black midrange deck in timeless. Dude just pulls his weight no matter the matchup. Win streaked from diamond straight to mythic playing Bo3. Dodges the 3 damage removal from all the red decks while being a beefy blocker. Flips pretty easily so still has to be respected by the slow decks. Instantly wins you the game with the -1 if you gain lots of life from One Ring + Sheoldred, Consuming Corruption or March of Wretched Sorrow. The lifegain naturally run in black deck to offset Necropotence/One ring is enough to make Sorin great. Extort is also a nice mana sink with so much of the format being full of cheap or free spells.
I'm putting together Sorin Commander with Lurrus Companion, so it's nice to see the basic idea works really well and has all the cool lines to play like I thought it might
I feel like the case of the uneaten feast would have been way better than the luminarch veteran. Solving it has the same requirement as sorin, it is way more resilliant, and rebuilding from your graveyard is pretty great.
The question we really need to answer is does Sorin break Martyr Proc in Modern? If you can have 4 white cards in hand with a sorin out when you sac the martyr it's lethal. TECHNICALLY possible on T2 with the nut draw but would give you an excuse to break out all those Emerias, sun titans and Squadron Hawks...
I play Soul Sisters in Bo1.. =) But Bo1 (atleast in my rank) is plagued by Show and tell combo nonsese, scam stuff etc.. so i have to play Leyline, Witch Enchanter, etc.. =) but it is so fun to play deck
what bad outcome were you expecting from if you attacked with the 5/5 voice when they only had a bowmaster to block? Either they had a push to kill it or they would have had to had a bolt+bowmaster in hand to kill it, either way it wouldn't have got to 6/6 if you just kept waiting for a creature.
I remember a while ago you did a video regarding how much you spend on arena to get all thw cards you need. An update on that would be interesting. Also souls sisters is one of my favorite pet decks. I remember old Marty Proc from like 10 years ago now from this channel
i really dont enjoy ajani without red. His front side is good for your etb life gain, but without the damage on the 0 hes nowhere near as scary as he should be

I just came up against a deck in Timeless that used necropotence and ivory towers to gain a bunch of life and kill me with Sorin. I thought it was cool tech.
Bruh I get that The One Ring is just optimal in many of these jank decks but it really is starting to feel that, whenever I boot up a creator playing something non-aggro, the deck starts with 4 rings.
i hate modern horizons. 1 mana creatures that wins all on its is insanely bad gameplay. where is our 1 mana enchanment or 1 mana sorcery that wins the game?

I dont understand the title? Soul sisters became good a long time ago. Or did we forget that CoCo angels is basically just a soul sisters deck. Not to mention they got ocelot pride, ajani, and the new soul sister recently, but even before that, they had voice of the blessed and Righteous Valkyrie. I’m not saying it was tier one but to sit here and pretend like it wasn’t a good deck that consistently gets 60 to 70% win rate before mh3 is kind of silly.
Wait... Soren's planeswalker side. The last ability. Doesn't that imply that Soren is a white permanent? Isn't that incorrect because the white mana symbol onoy appears in the reminder text.
Has a W/B color indicator. the little circle in front of the typeline. This has been a thing for colored cards (or back faces) without mana costs for some time.

I think Seth is far to conservative when he has no reason to be and far too risky when there's no need for it like his obsession with one landers tho he was a bit better here idk, I feel like he and I are polar opposites in opinion it's only worth waiting if it wins you the game imo
Soul sisters was my first deck when i started playing magic so its nice to see them ok again. However, modern horizons is an awful product that has ruined modern as a whole.
Great vid but goodness the whole soul warden/ajani/ocelot pride stuff is braindead boring to actually play against purely because that seems to be all the people are playing. I swear in historic there's a 50/50 shot the opponent opens with a soul warden.
Got 2 games into match one before quitting in disgust. The only difference between your experience and the current Modern meta is that Lurrus is banned. I'm eagerly awaiting the Timeless restriction announcement for Lurrus, and the "amazing changes" it makes to the format.
