You didn't fall victim to co part you fell victim to stupidity . When co part says non runner it's not going to be because its got no fuel or flat battery they work on commission. You seriously think they don't fire the booster pack on it before it even leaves the insurance compound before it hits co part. Co part states non runner expect a hole in the block

Try a wet compression test if the compression rises then it's rings but you can also use a leak down tester with a air compressor and the adapter tool, but also check the timing chain/belt incase it's snapped if it has most likely bent valves if it's an interference engine, if it's a none interference engine no harm would have been done to the valves or pistons, loving you're videos so far keep up the amazing work and I do hope the swift can be saved someone would love it as a first car :)

Hi mate, I did a lot of those engine, and they are bomb proof, timing chain is typical Japanese, it will never snap or jump, only problem with them is when you overheat the engine, then you can get head warped or drop a cylinder liner. Judging from the state of air filter, engine sucked a lot of water and as we know water does not compress, so it either snapped/bend con rods or crankshaft snapped. Anyway sad to see you loosing money, I hope that citigo is going to be better. Good luck
@jmcgatkinson
@jmcgatkinson 4 года назад
If I recall, the timing belt failure leads to engine destruction (pistons hitting open valves). As well, the engine may have overheated, by neglecting to check guages and fluid levels. If you can procure a good second hand engine, (perhaps from a car in poorer body condition), you'd be set. It seems Copart are just 'jockeying around' with assorted cars, with assorted conditions.. The Suzuki, after looking at the air filter, and particulate matter in it, would have had a diagnostic warning light on for some time..
@Jacob_Field
@Jacob_Field 4 года назад
That engine must be badly out of time so on the compression stroke its leaving the valves open. Timing belt or chain has either gone or slipped off the TDC marks. Either way the engine sounds 🤮

I would not expect all four cylinders to have no compression at all, that's weird, has someone had it a part because of cylinder two and not refitted a new head gasket because the engines knacked, is there an head gasket in there? is the head lose?....Even if the cambelt snapped I wouldn't expect the valves to hole all four pistons???? you would have to be really unlucky?????? Whats the mileage on the engine?
@Sparkplugsteve
@Sparkplugsteve 4 года назад
I think timing chain has jumped teeth so valves are open on the compression stroke. I think it's A non interference engine so no valve contact on the pistons.
@nitromad1
@nitromad1 4 года назад
I know it probably comes down to time, but It would’ve been nice to see it stripped down and diagnosed. As soon as I saw that air filter I thought the same as you, it’s sucked in water and bent valves, a cheap borescope/endoscope is well worth keeping in your toolbox, I would have expected to see signs of water ingress in the bores given how long cars sit at copart for.
@Sparkplugsteve
@Sparkplugsteve 4 года назад
I put a light in and was no rust or water. So most likely cause is a jumped timing chain I think.

BEWARE I purchased a 2015 A5 from my local Copart in Belfast, it had very light frontal damage and undercarriage damage. In the description it stated it was not running. When the A5 was delivered and I had my first chance to view it (because of covid we are still not permitted to view in person) I found that the plastic sump was smashed and the engine was seized solid, so it must have been run with no oil maybe around the Copart yard until it seized. When I asked Copart did they not know about the engine they said it was up to me to inspect the car??? How could I have done that when the yard is closed tto the public?? I was told I should have inspected the pictures, but the picture showing the undercarriage damage was very dark so didn't show the smashed sump. Be very careful when you have to rely on the Copart info and pictures.....

Can totally sympathise with you on this Steve. I got stung with an Auction VW Polo a couple of years ago. One elderly lady owner, really low mileage so I thought I was sorted. Oh no! Engine totally buggered. Lost over £2k in the end🙁

@@okeycokey7391 oh, i know the 1.2 TSI's (2010-2012) have known issues with tensioner failures. Mines on 94k (2012) still on original chain. I think its all down too regular servicing which can impact engine life significantly

Would have been a good car to test covering your costs with parting it out. You don't need loads of space for bits worth money. For example headlights take 2 min to take out and fetch good money, same with real lights, O² sensors, coil packs, starter motor, front calipers, airbags, ECU with set of keys (locks if you can be bothered), throttle body. You are probably at £420 there with only 2-3 plastic totes worth of storage. Then sell the rolling stock to the scrap man. You could have done that in a few hours at the weekend.

Get the chain covers off check timing and get it done if it a non interference engine ! Happy days

This engine has been hydrolocked which resulted in the taming chain snapping. They would have used the body damage to claim against their insurance.

That dreaded sound of a snapped belt :(. Must be well and truly shafted to have no compression at all, sure your tester works?

It's worked every time before. It did pick up a few psi on one cylinder. Valves must be open and I could hear the popping while cranking.

Copart are like every other car auction, you pay your money and you take a chance. You either get a bargain that's needs minimal work or you get a lemon fit for the breakers.

Ive been lucky with everything I’ve bought from there except for a 13 plate diesel B Max that I bought in November that was running in the photos but seized solid when it arrived , last time I buy one of their so called enhanced vehicles , still got it , I’m just looking round for an engine for it now but they aren’t cheap

Nobody is done over or a victim here , you bid sight unseen and take your chances. That's why it's an auction. You have to bid asuming the worst. Non runner = budget for replacing engine.

Alan Paris ...I never said I was done over , I always leave room for the worse case scenario , even if I have to break it, I’m just steering clear of any non running flood damaged and anything listed as enhanced , I’ve done really well from Copart over the years , you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth with auctions , and I usually go and view but I took my chances and failed 😂

all these you tube mechanics ffs, its not even got a timing belt! its on a chain! you can clearly hear not one cylinder has a wiff of compression, didnt even need to test. what has happened is the car has been sent through a deep puddle and the intake has sucked up enough water to hydraulic and bend every single valve.......... there you go, a real life mechanics opinion and diagnostic....
@Sparkplugsteve
@Sparkplugsteve 4 года назад
I thought the same at first but no signs of water in the cylinders and no rust.
@sjmotorcyclessjm9972
@sjmotorcyclessjm9972 4 года назад
@@Sparkplugsteve alloy pistons wont rust mate..... and also it only take a small amount of water and it won be in the cylinders as it bent valves and pushed past them so what remains of the water will be in the exhaust or a little in the sump. air filters dont just suck in. That car wasnt crashed, just smashed through a deep puddle and someone fucked it

Well I like a man who knows his own limitations, and when something is a time stealing money pit. You're either committed or you chuck it in, and a Suzuki Swift probably isn't worth long nights with bleeding knuckles and grease under the fingernails!
