It's good to speak up. I work in a major US hospital and many years ago a child died because the staff was not listening to the parents. Afterwards they negotiated with the hospital and the outcome was that a special protocol was set up for anyone who feels they are not be listening to by the staff and they can call a number and get immediate assistance and that all new employees hear the story of this family when they are going through orientation. You can make a difference.
As a parent, I had that happen in a hospital in Santa Fe. I should preface my post by saying my first son passed of SIDS and my second had severe allergies. When we arrived in the Santa Fe area, it triggered him. We landed in the ER and as a mother I just knew something was off with his cough. A young ER doctor tried to talk down to me, pass me off as a nervous mother who was uninformed. He even went so far as to tell me he had 3 kids and therefore understood kids better than me and was ready to release him. Well, I wouldn't have it. I demanded to see a pediatric doctor. The head of peds came down, took one look down is throat and saw that the esophageal flap was swollen. He looked at the ER doctor and said "What were you thinking? This is an automatic admit!" I believe had I not advocated for my son things could have ended tragically. We are raised not to question "authority" and sometimes we must. They are only human after all.
@@racheljay9963 Most likely parents came with a small child to the ER, the doctor who saw them dismissed their concerns as new parents overreacting and in this case, it wasn't just an overreaction.
Ever since I got sick badly, I realized how messed up the whole hospital system really was... I used to be innocent and think that I could blindly trust doctors and also thought that I would be listened to if something went wrong. They made many mistakes with prescribing the wrong medication and blaming side effects on me, while it was clearly written on the notice, mind you! I had to fight with so many of them just to avoid being shoved aside and ignored. That medication mess up lasted for 3 years, until one of them finally ready more than two lines of my medical file, I guess -_- I'm still upset to this day, especially because I was really sick and really didn't have the energy to fight against people for something so obvious. You're very courageous, keep it up!!!
As a Phlebotomist/Medical assistant we are taught to try 3 times and get a different special phlebotomist. I worked with people who didnt listen to the patient when they say I am a hard stick, I listen and try the easy way first, why make the person be in pain? Stand up for your self as a patient you have the right to demand proper care.
I have always been a hard stick since I was a kid. I've had so much hate from nurses and medical assistants blaming me for it. They will tell at me and laugh and say do you ever drink water or work out?? You have no veins! I had one wrong nurse try to put the iv in my neck! Because she couldnt find a vein in my arm and it wasnt not urgent at all. I had some swelling in my feet but my vitals were stable. Crazy!!
Same as a Medical Lab Scientist. After 3 tries we have to step away and get a phlebotomist. I had to advocate for my sister while she was in labor because the nurse kept sticking and couldn’t find a vein. It left her with so many bruises and in pain.
The nurses at the hospital where my orthopedic surgeries are so rude when I tell them I am a hard stick. They like to do it in my arm when it’s easier to do it in my hand. They get nasty and rude towards me. I hate that they don’t listen to me. I might see if they will be willing to call the pediatric iv team who are more patient and can usually get the iv in on the first try.
As a nurse, if a patient gives me any kind of helpful information I ABSOLUTELY listen. Why the hell would I want to make it harder on myself because who knows your body better than you? I don't like it when nurses or healthcare staff in general try to "take the reigns" and attempt to "show off" in essence. For me, listening to my patient is a priority. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with your hospital. I hope that everything gets resolved soon and the facility takes it into account and fixes it. Good for you speaking up for yourself!!!! Nurses are ok but doctors are so arrogant!!! It is like they lost touch with reality … they don’t listen, don’t care and be like suck it up… so so sad! Lives are lost and also quality of life.
My daughter's first time giving birth the head nurse sent her home in active labor after trying to start her labor, she was l overdue too. The nurse suggested she do things to slow it down, at midnight!!! The had to return 45 minutes later and he was born within 15 minutes after he got there. That nurse never listened to anyone, she thought SHE was a doctor!
Oh, Romee... as a retired nurse I stand here in California my heart is here for you. I worked with CCU and Hospice care as well for years, as well with my patients as well as my family. Staff needs to listen to you. LOL, as a Nancy, I laughed when you said "negative Nancy" I hear you, you need to be heard, all of our patients need to be heard. Please, file your complaint! As a nurse, I totally support you in reporting!!!! Health care professionals need to be held accountable!

As someone who is also in and out of hospitals: I would not have had my life-changing surgery without filing a complaint. Medical staff are, rightly, proud of what they do but sometimes at the expense of patients. DEFINITELY advocate for yourself.
As a chronically ill person, I've had to work with so many medical professionals who refuse to listen to me. It's gotten to the point where if I can take care of myself at home, I will, regardless of pain level, regardless of others opinions, and sometimes even after I've called a nurse and they tell me to go to the hospital ( edit: don't do this). I'm not saying all medical professionals are bad or so proud that they won't listen to patients. All I'm saying is there is a lot of medial professionals who need to try to remember that there are people who have been ill for long enough of a time to accurately express something that is needed I'm their care (sometimes their whole lives). Some of us are totally willing to work with you, and aren't doubting your medical skills just because we voice our input.
I had a guy trying to get a vein and when I told him he’d have a better chance trying in my hand - I think he took it as a personal challenge to try my arms. By the 3rd try, with him getting angry, I told him to stop and I got up and walked out. I already have a problem with needles - I don’t need some joker poking around my arm. Good for you in standing up for yourself!!
I have the same exact problems with my veins. When I was younger I put up with So many nurses and text thinking you knew my veins better than me. Now I'm in my 40s And a very firmly advocate for myself. Goodness you have too! Good luck to you.
Very inspiring. I also am the kinda girl that doesn't stand up for herself, always trying to be nice and accomodating. What you went through is not right and your complaint - if taken seriously - might really make a difference for other patients in the future. Bravo!
Romee, I really admire your maturity for a girl so young. I have followed all your journey, and you have been through so much and yet you found the strenght and willpower to finish your studies. You did very well in filing a complaint against the hospital, you are doing a favor to future patients and also you have every right to advocate for your health. There should be nothing more important in the world for a mother than her children, this wonderful amazing girl should not rely only on her friends. She has been going through serious illness at a very young age and her mother should have been right beside her all the way since the beggining supporting her.

Good for you, girl. I was my mom's caregiver as she fought cancer. Even then some, not all, of her docs just shined her on and didn't listen to her. I am glad I came upon your channel. I'm praying and believing in total healing for you. 🙏🏽❤
Rome's I am so amazed by you and so proud of you for speaking up for yourself. I am a care taker to dad who has end stage kun Lung disease. Sadly I deal with this all the time. It's exhausting. I am his advocate. I'm also a former nurse. Nobody knows your body better that you do. I find it so irritating when I'm ignored. As a nurse I always valued ANY input. I think patients and family have a lot to offer. Patients feel scared and intimidated to speak up. That's a shame it's your body. You have right to guestion! It would make it so much better if we all valued each other and communicated. Good for you!

From my own personal experience this year, I have learned that it’s so important to learn to advocate for yourself because doctors don’t always listen. It’s frustrating especially when you’re dealing with something that’s so emotionally draining already like cancer. I’m sorry that you have to deal with incompetent medical personnel on top of everything else.
There is nothing wrong with advocating for yourself. When I first got sick I never stood up to doctors and always thought they knew what was best. I ended up losing all but 3 percent of my stomach because a surgeon said it would cure my illness, turns out not so much, and has left me sicker and with less treatment options. Now, I am the first person to stand up when things aren’t right. It doesn’t matter if it’s a doc or a nurse I’m not going to let them do things wrong when it comes to me. And, sometimes you have to have an attitude because some of them have big heads and don’t listen. You speak up for yourself, this is about your life and body. I know things are super hard, but I pray they get better!

I’m so sorry that happened to you. A doctor wanted the same, (somewhat). He wanted surgery and some exams I wasn’t ok with (I’m a minor, and the exams were very invasive and I felt uncomfortable). Long story short, the doctor was horrible, I was “cured” with antibiotics. (Not 100% but I am better). When I told the story (in another comment section) everyone was telling me I was in the wrong. I felt horrible. Thank you, for sharing :)
I’m a nurse myself and I think it’s important to also know when NOT to try. I’m not the best at IV’s, I atleast try each time to look for a good vein, but when there’s patients at our unit that are know for having hard/bad veins I ask one of my colleagues or call Holding and explain the situation. Putting in IV’s is never fun for patients and why harm them multiple times…
Totally agree with you. If I couldn’t site an IV within a couple of tries I would call up a friend in ICU or Emerg, they can do IVs on anyone! I also listened to my patients, she knew the procedure
I was misdiagnosed with pre leukemia and ended up losing my hearing due to two unnecessary bone marrow aspirations and I got absolutely no where with legal action against the Dr who refused to listen to me and laughed when I told him I could barely hear anything 2 weeks after the aspirations. I now have a cochlear implant. Don't back down Romee.
So then when the doctor refused to listen to you why did you continue with that doctor? Did the doctor point a gun to your head and say if you don’t continue with me I am going to pull the trigger?
@@superEriccui you realise some people are stuck with certain docs right? due to area shortages of family doctors or specialist shortages. also you need to get referred so may not be able to move to a more or less specialist doc without permission from the first bad doc. atm im stuck with a shit gp (uk). cant move yet cos the waiting lists are so so long and private is way too expensive for minor shit

You should have considered that when you moved there and if the disease is life threatening it’s up to you to make the sacrifices to go and see a better doctor. Second of all referral is easy and every doctor will gladly do that why? One they get a referral fee and two they have too.
Good for you! As a Nurse myself and also someone with horrible veins, I hear you loud and clear! I can not begin to tell you how many times I've not been heard and as a result been stuck over and over again. I try not to tell the person drawing my blood or putting in the Iv that i am a nurse because I've found it makes them nervous( I definitely don't need a nervous person who has a needle in hand headed my way lol). Because of my own health experiences I feel like it's helped me be a better nurse/caretaker, it's also helped me be a better advocate not just for myself but for my patients as well. I'm very glad that you had the courage to speak out because it may not seem this way but it really does make a difference 🤗🙏
I’m feeling so bad for all the disappointments you are going through. My parents have both had major surgeries, hospitalizations here in the US. My sister and I stayed with them 24/7 in the hospital and it was a real eye opener on how many mistakes are made, miscommunication regarding medications and changes made that in our case landed my mom into ICU all because medical staff didn’t listen. I learned that the patient often would benefit from a patient advocate which is what we did for our elderly parents. I had notebooks and everytime a new doctor came in I wrote down what he said, medication changes, etc.....and had him leave his card or sign his name and contact # if possible. I am so glad you are standing up for yourself!!! I just hate that you are having to fight this horrid cancer battle at such a young age. You are a beautiful person and I’m praying for complete healing for you! ❤️
I had this idea that the Dutch healthcare system would be better than in my own country, but seemingly not necessarily so. I hope you continue to fight for everything. You are a battler and a survivor! Xx
I feel people forget that a doctor - that’s just their job and they work for YOU. I tell my doctor no all the time since having stage 4 cancer. I think I shock the crap out of them when I say no because they always reply, What? 🤣 Look how unbelievably strong you are, didn’t know you had it in you, did you? You’re precious too. You're an advocate for all the patients. This journey asks so much of your mental health and I believe you have every right to make your voice heard. Hopefully they'll learn from this and change a few protocols.
I’ve unfortunately had to file complaints against my hospital MULTIPLE times in regards to miscommunication and mistreatment/misguidance towards me by staff... it’s really unfortunate and sad but the health care system and its workers have a lot of flaws all over the world, regardless of which country you’re in. This is completely unacceptable and you are totally right!! This isn't the first time, I remember when they forgot about you for another important appointment (also for a PET-scan if I remember correctly?). Working at a hospital must be very hard BUT it shouldn't excuse everything and in those situations communication is (more than ever) KEY. I hope your surgery went well and you feel better now. Hey you, We are all so proud of you and send our love and thoughts. I made a complaint when I was in hospital. A doctor said if I wanted to stay while they worked out my pain management he could start amputating my toes!!!! My blood pressure went sky high because it's impossible to amputate my toes, you'd have to amputate my leg at the knee. I made a complaint and the senior nurse was so nice when she got back to me. Said the consultant was sorry and had a new baby and they'd keep an eye on him. So many people are scared to report a doctor or a hospital because of their status, and the consensus is that they know better or it might adversely affect their treatment. In reality, it's a good thing to make a complaint so that they can learn and improve. You go girl. We are all rooting for you. Sending you love.
So sorry to hear you had a worse experience with the new appointment! I remember being scolded by a nurse because she couldn't hit my veins with the IV needle. She thought the problem was me being scared so the veins would shrink, and she scolded me for being scared (before a surgery). Then she jabbed the needle so hard into my hand. It kind of worked, but it really hurt. She also insisted for a while that anesthesia wasn't necessary, even though it was planned. The surgeon was unexperienced and made some mistakes (and actually laughed at me when I told I was afraid because my friend had almost bled to death after having been send straight home alone, she was rescued by a stranger who saw her collapsed in front of her door, from a similar procedure and I asked to stay over night at the hospital) , but that's another story , and one of the post-op nurses was ridiculously angry when I wasn't able to answer her questions right after I woke up.
After chemo my veins were wrecked . I still go for immunotherapy every three weeks and I ALWAYS tell whoever is sticking me that my veins suck. The more hospital/procedure experiences I have, the less patience I have for medical staff not listening to me. I’m the patient, I know my body, and I’m not going to be a pin cushion. I used to keep quiet but no more. I’ve fired nurses during hospital stays because they were indifferent or didn’t listen to me. Even had a complaint filed against the on call oncologist because he was a total a hole to me and quite literally said “You didn’t need to come in for this…” (pulmonary embolism…thanks for the empathy doc). So yeah, my patience is zero when it comes to patient care nowadays. I’m so proud of you for being your own advocate! Ask for the charge nurse or whoever is in charge of that unit if you ever have problems. No need to be mean about it, but being stern and telling them that the care they’re giving is unacceptable is a place to start. As long as they’re willing to have that conversation, that’s a start. You go girl. Hang in there. 🦋

the professionals may or may not know their job or be any good at it but we as patients know our body we live in them, they should absolutely listen to our concerns because on this account we know better.
I’m a hard stick too- I’ve always come out of surgeries with my arm looking like I got beaten up. I’ve warned people so I’ve asked for the IV nurse. Our hospital has a dedicated IV nurse on call for hard sticks for this reason. It’s definitely a gift and a special talent required for difficult sticks like ourselves!

I’ve worked in the field most of my life and am now retired and having health issues, mind you not as serious as yours but it’s unbelievable how many screw ups I’ve experienced with bad communication with hospitals and doctors. Stand up for yourself, if you don’t who will. You did the right thing. Your health is the number one thing and the reason why you are at the hospital. If someone at the hospital does something wrong their supervisor needs to be notified. I have had to stand up for my Mother, and if I wouldn’t have done it she would have died many times before she did. You have to protect yourself in a hospital. Have someone with you if possible 24 hours a day. I can’t wait to hear the rest of your story. Thank you for being so vocal. God Bless You!
Good for you for speaking up. The one thing that I learned over 18 months of breast cancer treatment is that you need to be your own advocate and speak up loudly when something doesn't feel right or if there is something that you don''t understand. Keep asking questions until it makes sense and don't be afraid to be the squeaky wheel when it comes to anything to do with your own healthcare.

This hits really close to home for me. I am so sorry to hear about your experience and I can only imagine what else you have to tell. Even though I live in a different country, me and my family had similar experiences in hospitals. My mum was just recently diagnosed with cancer and while that particular diagnosis is horrible enough, what really scarred us was they way we were treated at the hospital. My mum had several days (!) where she was told to fast in preparation for procedures that never came. She was operated on and while the doctor promised to give us a quick call, nobody came to check on her or tell us how it went. We had to infer that the procedure was unsuccessful from the fact that she was under for only 2 hours and that she did not go to the ICU. Nobody else attempted to talk to us. We had to literally hunt down a doctor. It got worse however. My mum does not advocate for herself and she is not very good at dealing with things because she is an anxious person, so she always requests for one of us to be with her when they have important news. This was communicated several times. Still one doctor came to her room in the morning and without any preparation told her that there was no chance of healing her cancer. My mum had a nervous breakdown and was inconsolable. Mind you, we knew this already because we had actually had had that conversation together with her and a doctor days prior. Afterwards, when we arrived to console my mum, the doctor cried in front of my dad and told him that my mum "didn't like her". I mean, we just wanted to never ever step foot in that place again. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what you experience as a patient in a hospital. I also know that most hospital staff means well. So there definitely is something wrong with the system in general.
That doctor should definitely undergo a new psychological evaluation. It seems she had a break down and is not the right person for the job. And I hope you made a written complaint against the doctors. At least that would start an internal evaluation that might wake her up. Believe me, doctors are in competition with each other, such a situation will not just be ignored.
So good of you to stand up for yourself. Everyone needs to advocate for themselves. Humanity is sometimes lost with healthcare because of the day in and day out. I’m sorry that you’re having to go through this.
Same thing happened with me with my CT scan. I skipped counting after thirty tries. The managed to trash the tiny little veins I had left. I got them back by vomiting over them and fainting. I have no viable veins left. I understand your pain. Hugs

When you tell them you have difficult veins they take it as a personal challenge to be the one and only medical superhero that will find the vein. They need to get control of their egos. They're just people like everyone else.
I’m so truly sorry for all your struggles. A few years ago, after an accident, I was in rehab where they had complete control over my life. One morning I collapsed at breakfast, despite my repeated cries that something was very wrong with me. Long story short, they messed up my meds and near killed me. Not only did I file a formal complaint, I left their facility, with help from my family, against medical advice. I was too sick and weak to bother with a medical malpractice case, buy did that ever create a ruckus. God bless you and continue doing what you need to do for you!!!

Thank you for speaking up for yourself. Why do people have a hard time doing this with people in the medical profession. Several years ago my daughter had a chronic uncommon illness we were sent to the top hospital in California and one of the top in the country. My daughter was only 4 yrs. at the time but every time we went as the nurses were getting her changed and into her bed they would remind her that she could say “NO”. Don’t Touch Me”. To any dr. Or nurse who came into her room and tried to touch her with out first explaining what they were going to do and that they needed to ask for her permission. That was the very best thing they could have taught her . She always advocates for her self and doesn’t leave without all her questions being answered. This is your life Romee. So many people need to hear your story. It could save their life . I am so happy for you and how this will give you the control you need through your journey. 🥰🙏🏻💕

I am proud of you for speaking up. I am the same way. I don’t normally speak up. I’ve had issues with doctors and hospitals one after another. They don’t listen. They always think they know better. When you know your body the best.
I’m glad u filed that complaint! When you’re sick u have to be your own advocate and voice, loud and clear! Some doctors and nurses think they know everything better bc the schooling they had and stuff. But in the end you’re the only one who knows your boddy and when things are wrong. When I was 15 I had a really bad stomach pain. My home doctor told me it was just a bug and would wear off in a week with some meds, it didn’t and after 2 weeks I went back and she just sended me home with the same treatment, she kept doing this for 6 months. My dad got sick of it and said she had to prescribe me a scan and echo. She did and I went to get them en got called home from school that day, i needed to be admitted to the hospital bc my galbladder was full with stones. Sadly this was not the end my liver stats were verry high a month after my galbladder got removed. And doctors were brushing this off again! I was a healthy, sporty 16 year old at that time. I got more and more sick over time, when I was 17 they dicided to do a biopsy, they misdiagnosed me then. When I was 18 they did one again bc the meds were not working. By the age of 20 I had a right diagnose but it was all a little late bc my body already payed the toll. I have and auto-immune Hepatitis its treatable with meds and stuff when found and diagnosed on time. Now I have a lot of other health problems bc of it. If this all would happened now I would deff files complaints now I’m older! So u go girl, wishing u all the best! Hou je sterk Romee! En je kan dit!!
Oh my goodness Romee I had a similar experience, I was in the pre ope room to have a surgery done and the nurse comes in to do my iv and I tell her I have HORRIBLE veins(I should know because I've had surgery's since I was 2yo and I always have to get pricked more than once) and so she takes a look and she doesn't see any veins that would be good, then another person comes in and says don't worry about the iv we will do it in the operation room, so they take me back and they end up sticking me 7 times while I was awake, mean while I'm sitting on the operation table crying and praying they will just put me to sleep, finally they do and he still has to do it 8 more times while I'm asleep. You can probably guess what my arm looked like afterwards, black, green, and blue....yeah. anyway I completely understand the frustration of people not listening to you and being to prideful to admit they can't do it. I of course can't completely relate on every account, because I was still able to have the surgery, but I get how frustrating people can be😔 I really am happy you are standing up for yourself!! Also just a tip if you or anyone out there don't know who also has bad veins, drink a boat load of water the day before, so your veins can be nice and plump😊
My mom went a year whit a malignant tumor in her leg (from her lungs) because her stupid doctor did not belive her and said she had to work out more. Offcourse a diagnosis like that would mean she would die, since she was a heavy smoker, but her doctor could have done a way better job and she could have been saved from so much pain. So I am a big fan of you taking charge! I am ALL for it! Go for it! You got my full support!
Ugh I completely understand and thank you for posting this video about medical staff not listening to patients. I have very tiny veins and I tell them and they never listen and poke me three to four times always or try to put it in my hand and it hurts too much. Sorry you didn’t get your pet scan when you weee mentally prepared for it. That’s so frustrating. I’ve recently had two surgeries relating to my gallbladder and the IV issues are real here in the United States. I’m also young and no one pays me any attention and then they realize I was right but too late. I’m just now starting to feel comfortable to stand up for myself when it comes to my health.
Hi Romee, I live in england , I have auto amune deseases, and over the years some consultants have been fantastic. And I grew to feel I was in safe hands, but she left after 5 years and her replacement has contridicted me constantly calling me a lier , so yes what your going through there are good and bad doctor's some you trust others couldn't help make us feel we are safe , iv had your set backs ,band I agree with your words , in this 21 century there are those who think they don't have to explain, or agree, and definitely don't have time for questions ,
I had the same problem with my veins.. my 3rd chemo they thought they infused the chemo in to my arm tissue because of the IV not being correct. I had to go to the hospital and endure the most painful infusion to counteract what the chemo might have done. Then had to go to a plastic surgeon to have him see if there was any damage. Thankfully there was not. But if the chemo had gone into the tissue I would of lost my hand and possibly my arm. Sorry you have to go through this. Love and prayers strong warrior.
Your video just popped up and I am so thankful you have shared this information about an I .V. and finding a vein through ultrasound. I had no idea!! My son was 9 and hospitalized with a serious infection. They made a dozen attempts before they finally knocked him out with ketamine and were able to place it. He had become hysterical for obvious reasons. I wish I had known this at the time!! Just that fact you've shared I'm certain has helped so many people. Thank you and I wish you all the best. I am so glad you stood up for yourself. I had an incident friday, where I was given a vaccine, I am allergic to the components. (Eggs) I have explosive diarrhea and vomiting with eggs, allergies affect people differently. They had to let administration know and everything. I, so far, am ok. Glad you filed the complaint.
I do not have cancer but am disabled and have 2 major life threatening diseases and I’ve almost died almost like a dozen times, I’ve had over 60 surgeries, so god only knows how many admissions, tests, IVS and so my point is I’ve been through so many issues like this and even worse stuff. I’m glad you advocated for yourself.

Oh my goodness Romee, as soon as I seen your arms with multiple cotton wool balls I knew what the issue was going to be. I honestly feel you with this, I am extremely difficult to get IV's and blood from as well and I have a consultant at Rhuematology who keeps pressuring me to get my blood taken at the hospital when I have repeatedly told him only my GP is able to get blood from me. He said I needed it done at the hospital because "the GP doesn't do full tests" which was just an excuse anyway I get to the hospital after five times of them trying even with a vein finder they couldnt get anything and the look they gave me as if it was my fault! This blood test was for treatment for my arthritis which is at a point where I can barley walk so I needed this blood work done so I could start treatment but the people in the hospital looked me dead in the eye and went "I don't know what to do you'll have to come back another day" and I said can I not go to my doctor because she usually gets blood from me and they had the cheek to say "you're doctor won't get it if we cant" long story short I ended up going to my doctor who got blood fine and I refuse to go back to the hospital

Hi, I hope you had a good weekend, I had a quiet one myself. I am glad you did make a complaint about their irresponsibility towards you or for any person under their care. Listening should be in the top three for taking care of a patient. May this help them with a better understanding on how to listen. I know I've had good and bad experiences within the same hospital I have to go to so I can understand everything you thought and felt as I thought and felt the same. You MUST be your own advocate!!!! I’m a 30 year hospital floor nurse and have seen enough. I too have a complaint on a doctor. However 15 years ago my cancer was misdiagnosed FIVE times which cost be a 14 hour surgery and half my neck. I’m so proud of you Ro!!!!
Oh my sweet Romee!! I am so sorry you had to go through this!! Good for you for filing this well deserved complaint. When I get my IVs for my MRIs the technician will place a tourniquet around my arm and see what veins pop up. They will point out 2 or 3 veins that look promising. Then I apply a blob of EMLA numbing cream on those areas and then they place tegaderm bandage to keep the cream in place. The cream needs about 20-30 minutes to work. This strategy has really helped me as I have tiny/problematic veins as well. Maybe you can incorporate this process in your next pet scan. Thank you for sharing story with us. Praying for a smoother pet scan process this second go around and for positive results. 💖
As someone who also struggles with their health and is constantly in and out of hospitals, surgeries, specialist appointments, etc,.. So many doctors are assholes and think because they went to school that they know everything and can never be wrong. Nurses love to be bitchy and take it out on you if they are having a bad day. Out of the thousands of doctors and nurses I've met, only about 70 actually gave a shit about their job, their patients, and were willing to listen. I've almost died multiple times because of the "I know your body better than you" type of doctors. Everyone is so scared to speak up and advocate for themselves. I know it's hard but if they are doing it to you, they are doing it to others. WE NEED CHANGE. And the only way to make that happen is to stand up and speak out. I'm so sorry you had to deal with those idiots, stay strong, and keep advocating for yourself! You're doing great!
Romee you have been VERY patient and forgiving during all this horror show. I remember all the times in videos you were waiting for a promised phone call and it never came, and you had to chase them down, yourself, while dealing with cancer! THAT was unforgivable! Keep fighting. Keep living. Don’t be silenced. I know your intelligence is your strength, Romee. Understanding your situation is the first step to recovery. I went through my own cancer journey last year and I understand what you’re saying about being your own best advocate. I think that your decision to bring these issues to the attention of the hospital will help other patients avoid them. Helping others also helps me feel better and I am positive you feel the same.

Hello Romee. I couldn’t even imagine going through what you have had to endure. I’m a firm believer that you are the manager of your self including your healthcare. I’m an RN and a patient with multiple sclerosis and believe me I have had to stand firm with drs, nurses, labs, scans, etc. I will tell the lab tech NOT to stick in a certain vessel and I can’t worry about it if they get offended. I don’t care, heck I ask them to wash their hands and get the evil eye with attitude. I listen to my pts complain that the drs don’t listen I tell them to say what you want. They are people not God. It infuriates me that you are fighting for your life and now that the lab guy did not listen to you, you now have to wait for results. To everyone please speak up this is your life and your health, we pay a fortune for health care to remain silent. Do not worry that you may offend a medical person, it is about you. Romee I’m sorry for the rant but it sends me over the edge. I have thought about you and check in daily like many others do. You are a strong articulate young woman. I hope you are healing well from your surgery and I know that you have family and friends to lean on including your therapist. You are lovely and not a mean person, and when you speak up for yourself you are helping others to use their voice. You know what you willing and unwilling to accept from anyone in any profession. It can be empowering The last thing you want to deal with is a lab guy telling you where should be stuck with the needle. I say stop fishing in my arm and take it out. Gurrrr I’m sorry to you and all of your followers for being all over the place. I thought about not sending this message but I had too. Sorry to hear about your experience, Romee! I have bad veins as well and I know what it means :( when I had surgery, both my arms were fully bruised because they kept trying! crazy! Keep strong!
