I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 4th, 2018 at the age of 16 and now I recall that great spiritual witness I had testifying to me of the Book of Mormon and His restored church. The Power of our conversion stories and testimonies are crucial to help others. Beautiful story. Stay strong don't listen to non believing members the mist of darkness is real. It's easy to drift away just like laman lemuel, having seen angels then forgetting almost instantly. The book of mormon helps us to be ready for the what lies ahead and for the present time. Love your conversion story sis. From Australia 🇦🇺I was born in the church. My family were blessed to have Samoan Grandparents who were open to something totally new and different. But they were also seeking truth and higher source. I love your experience with the missionaries and how loving and humorous Heavenly Father was to send Missionaries at that moment in time. Love it! I was a baptized catholic, which was my father's faith. We moved quite often and went to Lutheran and methodist, which was my mother's family faiths. I loved and learned much from all three faiths which prepared me for receiving the restored gospel and the true church as revealed and started with Adam and Eve . I took everything true,right, correct, from my previous Christian experiences, perspectives, and learned and joined the church at the age of fourteen. There wasn't a doctrine, matter of faith, principle, or any other biblical concern that wasn't something that I hadn't thought of, or been exposed to, or pondered, when I joined the church. Already knew about polygamy, precepts of the word of wisdom, tithing, prophets, apostles, etc. No surprises. Even thought Jesus had to have visited other people and that there had to be more scriptures ti come. You have a great story! Please stay strong in the church and with Jesus. Joseph is his prophet, the book of mormon is true, and so is the church. God bless you. Thanks for your testimony.

What a fun conversion story! Thank you for sharing! You can be a member of any church. But to be truly converted by God's Spirit is a game changer. I believe this is precisely why Jesus Christ said, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." So many people in darkness don't even realize they can actually get an answer from God They just believe what other people tell them or they believe all the stories they've been raised on. And they refuse to exercise any faith in Him. They have a form of Godliness but deny the power thereof.

And your story went right along with my thoughts lately. You are right this is an amazing story but I fear for people who follow the book of mormon because they are not fully aware that they are following a false prophet who claimed to have seen God yet have no proof to date. These so called tablets are not around get people say they have seen them. The Bible is actually historically documentated facts. There's no proof just what people say for the book of Mormon yet there have been thousands of witnesses witnessing of Jesus and what he said and did. Sometimes God puts us through the ringer into our lowest points so we can find our final destination. The book of Mormon contradicts the Bible.
@williamturner6192
@williamturner6192 3 года назад
@@TheMiker0000 the Book of Mormon does not contradict the Bible. There are other modern people who offer witness and those are more recent and more historically verifiable. (The Restoration being more recent it is easier to collect historical data)

@srilankangenie
@srilankangenie Год назад
@@philosophicalneo This is question is very thought provoking. Thank you for taking me down history of the eastern orthodox and western positions on the Filioque, immaculate conception, priesthood authority and the “unbroken “ line of succession from the Apostles to the Bishops in the 1st and 2nd centuries. I am reading a book that I can recommend you on the Jesus Movement (before they were called Christians). The exact title name is, “After Jesus before Christianity.” The Non-LDS Christian scholars question the prevailing narrative of Christianity that the apostles passed on the doctrine to the bishops precisely as Christ would have done it himself. So to answer your question on “How does the LDS timeline account for an apostate church forming meanwhile they hold a response ration of the sacrament?” The scholars reference research done of the scrolls discovered in Egypt in the 1950s (Nag Hamaddi Library, Dead Sea scrolls and other gnostic texts etc. which teach us that there were varying liturgies and practices similar to the different denominations of Joseph Smith’s time. There was no uniformed church till the Roman State took charge and chiseled away at the doctrines such as the Pre-mortal existence of our soul by emperor Justinian; which were replaced by Arianism and then what we define as Trinitarianism today. So the farther back you go into the first century, you find that there were a minority of the Jesus Movement practicing different parts of the Gospel the best they knew how to (After Jesus, Before Christianity - A Historical Exploration of the First two centuries of Jesus Movements Pg 8-15) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints uses the translation of the Sacrament liturgy from Joseph Smith translating the words of Moroni (The last book in the Book of Mormon).
@philosophicalneo
@philosophicalneo Год назад
@@srilankangenie Thank you for response. Your comment of the Roman State is loosely representing the Church during the Roman empire. Constantine legalizes Christianity in early 4th century, and facilitates Council of Nicaea in 325, something that all denominations of Christianity reference. Then Theodosius made Christianity the Roman religion in late 4th century. But you bring up the last Roman emperor Justinian, who actually represents the Byzantine empire following sacking of Rome in 5th century. Are you claiming that it became apostate under Constantine or at the end of the empire with Justinian? There are several early Church Fathers who also predate Constantine such as Justine Martyr, Athansius, Iraneus (2nd-3rd century) and Ignatius of Antioch (often believed to be the child whom Jesus blesses in the Gospel; traditional but still common tale) I recommend their works to you does this book you reference refute the succession of Christian doctrine from Saint Paul to these prominent figures?

Kathryn Torralva thanks! Yeah exactly I meant to do this 3.5 years ago but I was nervous to share this publicly. My story is different than most. most members of the church don’t have an instant revelation more of a gradual testimony. I think God knew I was only giving this Book one shot and He knew I was ready to make changes. I don’t expect people to believe me since the only way to really know what is “true” is to ask God and have a personal witness. The Holy Spirit testifies of truth so keeping your body clean helps us to feel the Spirit more in our daily lives. The spirit guides us and we can recognize and know the things we need to do. Thanks for taking the time to watch:) God loves you 🥰

How do you account for early letters from the Church such as Ignatius of Antioch and Polycarp? They seem to describe things much more in line with Catholicism and Orthodoxy and were writing in the early 100s. Both seem to have been close students of John and Peter as well. Other early sources like the Didache echo the same things.

But I keep thinking it would be easier to be Mormon than Catholic. (I can't memorize things easily). Catholics have the rosary and stuff. My mom is a non-practicing Catholic.

Michelle , our mindset should focus on our relationship with God First. You have to do it. In other words, It matters most what our Heavenly Father's opinion of us is. In other words there Is No competition with our neighbor. Stop it, Don't do it. Though there may be, and that's common, you can beat it. You can rise above that. Ifour mindset only cares what God thinks, then what others think about us and what we think others are thinking about us will be less critical. In other words, often times it's our own thoughts that get twisted. Totally normal. Here's the secret to beating that. Put your Heavenly Father first. Be aware of the pendulum in your life. Over correcting is normal but not recommended. In other words, find the healthy balance, get back up, don't be silent regardless of mistakes or embarrassing moments, keep trying. We're in this together. No one is perfect. Despite all outward appearances. And that includes you, or me , we don't need to be perfect or something we're not. Just put God first and that's it, then you will know how to love your neighbor and how to love yourself. Pray more, listen, be happy. When we compare ourselves to our neighbor two things happen, first we've taken our eyes off what Heavenly Father thinks about us. Second, we've compared ourself to another's strengths against our weaknesses and its really Not apples to apples. Don't do that. Stop it. Second opinions are good. Get 1 from a reliable source. God bless, take it easy , enjoy the struggle, be happy, don't give up, and much more... 37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ... [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

I can relate, I went to UC Berkeley - I found I enjoyed being different. Most people are into eating healthy and working out so I just related my choice not to drink alcohol to wanting to be healthy and strong and they respected that - I always had a good time and I always felt better the next morning then most. Also girls trusted me and felt safe around me. Jesus Christ taught us to "let our light shine" - to be a good example of each principle of truth ... like not judging, being grateful and forgiving .... I found many other students looked up to me and appreciated my choices and behavior ... one, a wonderful evangelical Christian became a good friend and is now a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ. Enjoy UCLA - congratulations on getting accepted!

I was hoping you would elaborate on the LDS position regarding what exactly took place to cause an apostate church to function for 1800 years before another revelation was given to Joseph Smith. There is a strong foundation of tradition and dogma that relates the current Catholic church to the same early church such as the Mass, Trinity, and holy orders (or laying on of hands) eastern orthodoxy refutes immaculate conception of Mary and the schism of 1054 was caused partly by the filioque and also jurisdiction and authority of bishops. But even they uphold a reverence for the Mass... How does the LDS timeline account for an apostate church forming meanwhile they hold a representation of the 'sacrament'
@DannyAGray
@DannyAGray Год назад
While I'm not entirely familiar with some of the terms you used, I'll try to answer from an LDS perspective. The church maintains that after the deaths of Christ and his apostles, there is found no clear evidence of the priesthood power (the apostleship, or the authority given through Christ, however you want to phrase it) was ever given to any others. Therefore, that power (we refer to as priesthood keys) essentially left the earth with them. The book of Revelations, and Isaiah before it, spoke of a this period. We hold that while there was no priesthood keys held, or proper authority, many people were still spreading the message of Christ, and many branches of his church were already formed by the apostles. Without further insight from the apostles, however, these branches failed to maintain order and clarity of doctrine. While it's hard to pinpoint exactly how long this period was, catholicism didn't really show up and define its own history until around the fifth century, meaning a period of at least moderate doctrinal chaos for about 300-400 years. While catholicism rose to prominence, it was created under fractured laws, beliefs, practices and doctrines. In my opinion, I think the Lord allows this misguided growth for a few reasons. First, any attempt to come close to God and Christ was probably better than nothing. Second, while catholicism has got some pretty sketchy and questionable roots, it did lead to gathering the compilation that is the Bible, the needed offshoots of protestants and reformations, the zeal of Christians of all kinds for centuries, the defense of the faith against bad leaders, leading to things like the Magna Carta which inspired the Declaration of Independence, etc etc etc. By the way, early catholicism did not hold a Trinitarian doctrine. The trinity was not a doctrinal belief until the twelfth century, the Doctrine of Original Sin later than that, and infant baptisms (which I personally find abhorrent) not until the sixteenth century or there about.

Matthew 16:18-19 New International Version 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,and on this rock I will build my church,and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Acts 20:28 New International Version 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God,which he bought with his own blood. 1 Timothy 3:15 New International Version 15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. Galatians 1:6-9 New International Version No Other Gospel 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse! Matthew 7:22-23 English Standard Version 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness False profets False teachers Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. Matthew 24:24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 2 Peter 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 1 John 4:1-6 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. ... 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Deuteronomy 18:20-22 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’- when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him. 2 Timothy 4:3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, Jeremiah 23:16 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy 18:20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ Revelation 19:20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. Romans 16:18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. Luke 6:26 “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets. Jeremiah 14:14 And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds. Mark 13:22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. Revelation 20:10 And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 2 Peter 2:3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. Mark 7:6-9 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!

@johnwarrenshortt7106

Hi JJ, John here. What Darlene is pointing out is that the LDS missionaries asked her to read from the Book of Mormon and then follow the invitation given by a Prophet named Mormon, who teaches that we read from this book and pray and sincerely ask God if what we have read is true, then God Himself will answer us through a personal manifestation of the Holy Ghost, and tell us if it is true. The wonderful confirming spirit she felt trumps any theological comparison, which is subject to manipulation by humans. It wasn't the missionaries who told her what she was reading was true, it was the Holy Ghost testifying to her spirit that it is true. What's more, JJ, is that there is no guessing about the source; she was given a two-part message: Part one; the Book of Mormon is true. Part two; the source of her knowledge is from God, our Heavenly Father. Listen to her story again. She says that only God can give us the feeling of peace she felt when she prayed to know if what she was reading was true. You can feel the same peace. Look up the missionaries and follow the invitation given in Moroni Chapter 10, verse 4 of the Book of Mormon. Read each word carefully and with faith, and then follow the feeling of peace and truth Darlene discovered.

john warren shortt I understand, but when we base spiritual decisions off of emotions doesn’t that leave room for error? If peace and satisfaction are signs of divine endorsement, what of gay couples feeling peace in their relationship? Or ex-Mormons feeling peace after leaving the church? Or a Latter-day Saint who converts to Catholicism for the very same emotional conviction felt by Darlene? Wouldn’t you say that theological scrutiny should also be at the very least a point of consideration?

Numbers 21:4-9 New International Version The Bronze Snake 4 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; 5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” 6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived. John 3:14-16 New International Version 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Galatians 3:1 New International Version 3 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 New International Version 2 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 1:18 New International Version Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God Matthew 16:24 New International Version 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

Now the spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will turn away from the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and demonic instruction through the hypocrisy of liars with branded consciences. They forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected when received with thanksgiving. For it is made holy by the invocation of God in prayer. 1 Timothy 4:1-5, (NAB)

And Paul was right! Many DID turn away from the faith, which was part of the Great Apostasy. That is why the restoration of the Original Church of Jesus Christ was necessary. God does answer the sincere prayers of His children. From the very beginning, we find that men began to call upon God (Gen 4:26). Throughout the entire Bible, we find that God answers the prayers of those who come to Him in faith. But perhaps nowhere is this better taught than by Jesus Himself. He said this: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matt 7:7-11). God does answer prayer and He will not allow the enemy to deceive those who are earnestly seeking truth. Would you allow that for YOUR children? Well, God is so much better than any of us. He will bless the sincere of heart.

I hope you will take the time to understand your faith. Look at the history of the church with the Church father from the first to third century ( some of them knew the apostles, and some of them fought the heresy of *ARYANISM* ) : Polycarp of Smyrna, Ignatius of antioch, read the letters of Justin Martyr ( with his description of ancient holy mass ), Irenaeus of Lyons, Clement etc... . There are good youtube channels, sensus Fidelium, catholic answer, excellent theologians like Thomas Aquinas who explains faith very well, there is his work "summa theologiae" on the "New Advent" website, there are objections then explanations, objections then explanations, objections then explanations, objections then explanations etc...

@@williamturner6192 no since they believed in apostolic succession. I can even quote you the Jewish Encyclopedia about what does the word "bind and loose" mean. "The power of binding and loosing was always claimed by the Pharisees. Under Queen Alexandra, the Pharisees, says Josephus ("B J." i, 5, § 2), "became the administrators of all public affairs so as to be empowered to banish and readmit whom they pleased, as well as to loose and to bind." -This does not- mean that, as the learned men, they merely decided what, according to the Law, was forbidden or allowed, *but that they possessed and exercised the power of tying or untying a thing by the spell of their divine authority, just as they could, by the power vested in them, pronounce and revoke an anathema upon a person."* ... "In this sense Jesus, when appointing his disciples to be his successors, used the familiar formula (Matt. xvi. 19, xviii. 18). *By these words he virtually invested them with the same authority as that which he found belonging to the scribes and Pharisees"...* Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites because they "bind heavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders, but will not move them with one of their fingers" however He recognized their authority because they were seated in the seat ( kathedra ) of Moses. Matthew 23:2-3 *“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.* *So you must be careful to do everything they tell you.* But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." The encyclopedia goes on to say " In the same sense, in the second epistle of Clement to James II. ("Clementine Homilies," Introduction), Peter is represented as having appointed Clement* as his successor, saying: "I communicate to him the power of binding and loosing so that, with respect to everything which he shall ordain in the earth, it shall be decreed in the heavens; for he shall bind what ought to be bound and loose what ought to be loosed as knowing the rule of the church." Quite different from this Judaic and ancient view of the apostolic power of binding and loosing is the one expressed in John xx. 23, *where Jesus is represented as having said to his disciples after they had received the Holy Spirit: "Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained."* Clement* was one of the first bishop of Rome ( aka pope ) Irenaeus of Lyon ( the bishop of Lyon ) said “[I]t is incumbent to obey the presbyters who are in the Church-those who, as I have shown, possess the succession from the apostles; those who, together with the succession of the episcopate, have received the infallible charism of truth, according to the good pleasure of the Father. But [it is also incumbent] to hold in suspicion others who depart from the primitive succession, and assemble themselves together in any place whatsoever, either as heretics of perverse minds, or as schismatics puffed up and self-pleasing, or again as hypocrites, acting thus for the sake of lucre and vainglory. For all these have fallen from the truth” (ibid., 4:26:2). “The true knowledge is the doctrine of the apostles, and the ancient organization of the Church throughout the whole world, and the manifestation of the body of Christ according to the succession of bishops, by which succession the bishops have handed down the Church which is found everywhere” (ibid., 4:33:8).

uti makasini well, many other people from other Christian denominations say the same thing. They prayed, they know they’re following the one true church. As for the country boy, not being able to write the book. He plagiarized the book. He supposedly translated a book, from a language that doesn’t exist. Not only that, but he writes it in old English. A form of speech and writing technique that was no longer in use. There is more evidence to prove Joseph Smith is a fraud. But, like I said, if it makes you feel better. Go for it.

@@fernandoalarcon8534 The anti-LDS sources are actually very poor. Very little actual historical research has been done into the church. A lot of what they say they inflate and ignore other evidence that shows they are wrong. Don't get me wrong, Joseph Smith was not perfect. He made many mistakes. You can read in the Doctrine and Covenants and in His journals that there were several times that he was chastised very strongly by the Lord for HIs sins. The things is, as you read these things, it proves Joseph was called of God. He was young, immature and poor. He was called as a prophet at 14 and at 17 was already receiving revelations. There is no way he understood all of these things. But as he matured, you can definitely see His growth, and His testimony of Christ and His Father is the most powerful you will read. His teachings will bring you closer to Christ and He truly testified of Him. Yeah he made mistakes, but that is massively overshadowed by the pure and simple and beautiful gospel that Christ restored through him. If people would focus on that pure doctrine and listen to the testimony of Christ, then they would also realize that Joseph Smith loved the Savior and was a true prophet of God.

I have a Book of Mormon and was reading through it in order to see if it itself contains inconsistencies or errors. Lo and behold I will bring up just enough to discredit it entirely, please comment if u can defend these points It appears that Nephi is writing his testimony at least 500 years before Christ meaning that he was a Jew and was very familiar with Jewish text. Meanwhile in 2 Nephi, he addresses many passages, parables, and concepts that were not presently written at this time in Jewish history. For example he mentions explicit quotes from the Gospels of Mark, Matt, Luke, and John such as the parable of he who is given much will give more and he who has little will have even that taken (2 Nephi 28:30). Furthermore, and this is something that also condemns Islam, in 2 Nephi 2:17-18, Nephi address the serpent as Satan, which was never a Jewish belief and was not a conceived idea until after even the Gospels were written. That old serpent, dragon, fallen angel, were all taken from the Book of Revelation and even moreso after the first century. Jewish theology typically views Satan as an obedient angel of God who simply tempts man in order to perform good or change heart hence why he is called the adversary throughout most of Old Testament. Islam suffers from this same error as it describes Iblis (Satan) as being present in the Garden and is cast down by God after not bowing to Adam (Surah 7) however, this concept of not bowing before a man is a perversion of a traditional Catholic doctrine that Satan and the rebellious angels were cast out for not bowing to the 2nd person the Trinity. (just something FYI) It is further indicative of how out of touch 2 Nephi is with ancient Jerusalem as 2 Nephi 28 condemns false doctrines and teachings of churches that will come following Christ. How on earth do the Jews think that the savior and Messiah of the world is going to come and establish a church! This was never and still is not a belief of traditional Jews who view the Messiah absolutely differently than this. Lastly, the Book of Mormon explicitly states that God's word will hiss through the land (2 Nephi 29:2-3; Moroni 10:28). I can never imagine how the Holy Spirit would inspire such verbiage to be used. This is distasteful and irreverent.

I appreciate your comment. As I'm reading through your complaints I'm noticing a glaring pattern to easily help you resolve your issues - and that is that many of your citations can be compared quite easily to the book of Isaiah. Not ironically, I started your citations with your last one, and found for you Isaiah 5:26. In fact, I noticed that many of your complaints come from 2 Nephi. The irony in this is that Nephi specifically talks about Isaiah and how much he loves reading from the prophet. A large portion of 2 Nephi is a reciting of Isaiah because, as Nephi says, it's important to him that his posterity have that book specifically. My advice to you is to revisit both the Book of Mormon AND the book of Isaiah. If you can't agree with the book of Mormon, the least you can do is refresh yourself on the greatest prophet of the Old Testament.
