Amazing video Dasha!!!! It warms my heart to see the excitement and happiness inside of you. As I watched it I thought ahead 20 years when you'll be a successful young woman with a great life. You will look back and watch this video with a big smile on your face. We are thrilled to have you and all your international classmates here in the US. The future is bright because of you all. Best of luck this semester. “Let the world know why you are here, and do it with passion.” - Wayne Dyer We're looking forward to watching the journey!

There are no russian vibes on Brighton) I was curious about it when I was tourist at 2019 and visited it, and I felt like that place stuck in the time loop, like it was '90s in Russia. Russia actually developed far away from that state. No offense, it's just my personal experience. Being there I felt kinda upset and lonely, so to say, but was very curious to find a VCR rental and the big label saying "we have sugar"! I was like "what, is it a rare thing here?"

@@romanyarygin1674 Brighton Beach area is a well known Russian area, always has been. The whole point of her going there would be to have some sort of feel and sense of community. If you're going to St John's, definitely try to visit Flushing as well. The food is better than the Manhattan Chinatown, and you can find more regional cuisines from China that are harder to find elsewhere, plus the Korean food is better and the restaurants are newer since it's where most of the recent immigrants move. I would go with a Chinese friend as they'll likely know what's good, but if you don't have one, I would start with the food court of New World Mall. Can give other recommendations if you want

A lot of the bread is sweet. You'll have to shop around until you find a brand that isnt, or a place that doesnt use sugar to help the yeast. My wife and her friends are from The Netherlands and always sharing locations and brands of bread that are "normal". They have the same complaint.

@x1xBryanx1x
@x1xBryanx1x Год назад
@@evegreenification Bread in the US has sugar and is different. Many places outside of the US dont use sugar, so its noticeable to outsiders. I used to like regular white bread, but after returning to the US, I find it to be too sweet now as well. Almost every package of bread in the US will contain sugar or high fructose corn syrup. (from chatgpt) Why does bread in America taste so sweet and sugary compared to other countries? Bread in America is known to have a sweeter taste compared to bread in other countries, due to the use of sugar and other sweeteners in the bread-making process. This is a preference that has been developed over time and is influenced by cultural and historical factors. The use of sugar in bread-making can be traced back to colonialism, when sugar was added to bread to make it more appealing to European settlers, and has since become a traditional ingredient in American bread. Additionally, American bread is often made with a higher proportion of wheat flour, which can also contribute to a sweeter taste.

@@x1xBryanx1x They use it as a binding agent so the flour holds during baking! Gluten free bread doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup. I sweeten my idea with sugar and no longer drink cola. Mexican cola has the old fashioned taste made with pure cane sugar before the Coca Cola Company switched to HFC syrup.

You now live close to Boston, a city with a lot of history, and more colleges and students than anywhere. You will also need to visit Washington DC. The museums are amazing and free. Buy an insecticide and spray around the baseboards of your apartment. You may still see roaches but dead ones. I grew up in Boston but now live in NC. Southern cities are smaller but cleaner and more affordable. NYC, however, should be quite an experience.

20:20 Your Russian Phone charge has died, lasted a long time in Russia and Europe. But all Russian Phone Charge dies quickly in the USA. Well, that is because your Phone is doing something, it is running some software, you will probably notice that your phone is also warm. Your phone is over worked in the US, compared to other countries. Other Russians have the same problem? Maybe you have some Malware, or "Government Installed" Software on it. Or, there maybe issues with network connectivity back to Russia, so it keeps trying to report back and cant. Who knows, but something is running continuously on your Phone.

The building with the gorgeous mural on the ceiling. I grew up in a small town with 2000 people that was the center of the local state government that has a smaller mural on the government building ceiling that could match it. Most local and state people don't realize this fantastic mural is there! The museum looks equal to or better than the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA. It is one of the best museums in the USA. I am glad that you took the time to view the museum in NYC because it is the experience of a life time to view such a rare museum. The insect killed in your apartment looks like a roach. Is your apartment above a place to eat? Better buy some roach poison or powder! Much of my wife's and my furnature was picked up off the curb because it was left when someone moved. Other furnatures were bought at Goodwill, Salvation Army, or ReStore. ( used heavily discounted furniture whose profits go to help the poor, build housing for the poor, or help those who are physically or mentally handicapped) So, keep your eye open for abandoned furnature and these stores so that you can help the homeless people in NYC. Many of the three stores I mentioned will deliver your furnature for a fee, including carrying it up the stairs. Most of this furnature is not flat pack like IKEA Furnature, its real furnature sold for less money than IKEA furnature. Make sure the furnature will fit up your stairwell and through you apartment doors before buying it.

Glad you could move in and get settled at least a few days before classes start. Now you can focus on pursuing your dreams. BTW, I met a girl from Russia yesterday who's been in the USA for about a year. She said the same thing about the bread! She also also said the bread is too soft. One of her favorite breakfasts is Greek yogurt with honey....but the kind she typically finds in the U.S.A "isn't from nature"...I guess she meant that it didn't taste natural. Curious to hear your thoughts on food in upcoming videos.

Well it gets me how can you afford an apartment in NYC? When most exchange students live either on a dorm campus or with five or six other people. You must be related to an oligod in Russia. As in New Yorker and live in Queens very close to Long Island City which I own my own home but rents here of 5 to $6,000 a month for garbage. Seeing your apartment blows me away how you can afford it but that's none of my business I wish you nothing but the best of your studies and go far and hope you find out that Americans are good good people! And Russians that I have met especially in my job there are a lot have become very good friends of mine. That's why I really don't understand what the hell the problem is between us two countries. I feel bad that you people can't speak your mind in the streets in Russia to me that is absolutely absurd that I can call my president an absolute a****** in front of the whole world and nothing would happen to me. Such great news. You found a place, you've started your classes, you visited many cool places. Watching you assemble the piece of IKEA furniture was hilarious. We've all been there.

Your address might have changed, but the quality if your videos have not 😊. This is a fantastic video, Dari! Congrats on your resilience in finding a place and already making such a positive presence in NYC. St. John's is blessed to have you as a student and I can't wait to see how well you do and all that you learn! Also, great job building your bed! You have skills you never realized. 😉 And sorry for my delayed response...it was a very busy work week!

If you want to get really good edible Central Eastern European bread in the US, like you haven't eaten in your entire life, you have to find a good Jewish bakery, preferably run by orthodox Jews. The best bread and pastries I've ever had in the US and maybe the world. Well, except for the Amish ones. But it's closest to Pennsylvania.

I couldn’t understand how people can be so late (30-60min)
@cassidy99ful
@cassidy99ful Год назад
@@DariStep Oh yes, thank you. Yes, If you are going to be that late you should at least call the person and tell them why you are going to be that late. That's proper etiquette In America, anyways. How Is It In Russia If you are going to be that late?

Congratulations on finding an apartment. You should definitely consider getting Renters (or Tenants) insurance to protect against fire, theft, damage, etc. In NYC, it’s not expensive, maybe $200 per year (and cheaper if you split it with a roommate). Good luck!

@@DariStep Look over everything of value in your apartment (items you cannot easily replace like computers, laptops, expensive phones, televisions, stereo gear, cameras, recording equipment, luggage, etc.) and list it on a computer file and also print it out as a backup. Find and keep your receipts in a safe place for the valuables and furniture that you own and are kept in your apartment. Take photographs and a video log of this stuff as well. Give a copy of those various records to the insurance company holding your renter's insurance policy, if they want it. If, god forbid, something happens, you can get replacements for these things if stolen or damaged or lost. Once you buy another valuable item, make sure you update all this information. If you have a bank look into renting a safety deposit box to store these and other important documents and extreme valuables you won't be keeping at your apartment in that box since you plan on living here for a long time.

The suggestion about renter’s insurance is good advice. All the good high-end & mid level landlords require renter’s insurance in NYC as part of the lease contract. My first apartment didn’t but my second apartment, a doorman building, did. It just closes loopholes and I paid only $8 month with State Farm. The more expensive the apartment the more you need it.

@@Qthepug if you live in a small town in a secured building, you don’t need it but in NY where crime is a part of every day life, renters insurance secures your valuables.

I rented a small room in NY for 600 capitalist dollars 💵 a month. Cool you finally settled 🏠. I remember also slept few nights in some Russian immigrants apartment and there were bedbugs. I ran away from that place and came back to my first hostel on Brighton where the fat snoring guy didn’t let me sleep. (Now I also snore a lot though 😅) Then one of my phones was stolen there and some clothes 😅. Then finally I rented some room. But it’s nice that despite the 🪳 roaches and rats 🐀 also you can see the cute squirrels 🐿 from the window 🪟 which I only saw in New York from the big cities around the World. Why am I writing it all I don’t know. But just Dari with her video made me nostalgic. Ohh yeah and I remember the crazy line to some Starbucks mostly of the girls. I was a simple boy and didn’t know all those fashionable places. But I liked the cheap pizza 🍕 places and I gained 6 kg in 3 month in America. I was going to gym there as well and got muscles too. Protein cost there just 20 dollars for almost a kilogram. They use some weird measures in America. Like .lb or something. In Russia it costs much more if it’s imported. Maybe 2-3 times more.
