They recommend headphones. I think you did well considering you were putting pressure on yourself by doing it in a public video format!

I haven't done it myself, but I've tried to guess along. While I think I was pretty decent in the beat alignment and mistuning perception, I was considerably worse in melodic discrimination. At least my impression was that the key changes between the three examples would really mess up my short term pitch memory, or at least with the questions that had longer melodies.

I agree that the test was a bit narrow, and doesn’t account for “feel”-which, admittedly, would be extremely hard to objectively quantify. It’s nevertheless a good start to measuring one’s ears. Validating to see you and I got almost the same results; I got a couple right that you missed, and missed a couple you got right. (I’m going to make excuses for myself: I was listening to the test through my iPhone speaker turned down low. 😁) I also agree that I did better after letting go of the “analysis,” which seems to indicate that you have to trust your ears, and then scaffold with the theory, and not the other way around! Final thought: I would bet you could improve your score by taking this test several times, even if all of the musical examples were different. Your ears would “learn.” It’s a form of ear training, I think. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for posting this, Pierre!

I believe your music IQ doesn't matter when you play piano as well as you do

One the first beat part I was with you 100% including that first miss on nine I think. A disagreed with you on eleven, but you were right. I then disagreed with you on fourteen and I was right. I guess I suck too.

I just did it and scored 63. The first test was easy, the second hard and the last generally ok.😢😮

I tried to do this but I found the questionnaire at the beginning redundant and too personal. No biggie to opt out because I don't need someone else to judge my musical abilities. Just trying to save you some time to make some actual music instead. ✌✌
