For anyone who may be interested in modding but might feel scared off, it is important to not be scared to ask veteran modders for help, there are tons of people who are more than happy to assist! Especially when it comes to spriter! Spriter has all sorts of tricks and workarounds that vets have learned. People have went through all the muck and mess already, and I can personally attest to a sense of pride whenever I can help people out with their issues! Just don't mod free sex into the game. Thats the one thing you should be scared of.
@@Uncompromising_Mode i bet it feels awesome to have the devs of the game you are modding take those ideas and add them kind of into the game. Uncomp mode is awesome and super fun but I am a weak and wimpy starver😅
I felt incredibly touched by the Art & Design section, as the the ungodly amount of jank that is spriter ON TOP of the crappy compiler were the reason I dropped out of modding 4 years ago. The breaking point for me was attempting to do some custom animations for the bee queen. I did not touch anything else. The compiler then proceeded to break every single animation of hers, and somehow send her wings(that I ALSO didn't touch at all) 50 feet away from her model... I remember one of the Devs teasing the possibility of releasing their own compiler compatible with Adobe Animate, with the only concern being that it's a paid program unlike spriter, but since we're still talking about that shitstain of a software to this day, its clear that never happened.
it's downright cruel to tease something like that and not follow up on it... I guess there's a point to be made about paid software but I'm sure the option to use spriter would still exist
I- Wha- I'm just flabbergasted that this is something they'd advertise on RU-vid of all places LMAO. It made the video funnier though so I'm not gonna complain.
That ad hit me like a freaking truck. Not in a bad way though, I appreciate seeing more openness about sexual topics on the Internet, and hopefully in general. As Freddo said, it's a pretty stigmatised topic.
@@littleweaselboy2865 tbf the start of the video literally says "video intended for 18+ audience members" i highly doubt its targeted towards minors lmao
i dont think its creepy tho they are right that no kids gonna pay attention cause im not 18 and i kept watching ._. i skipped the ad but i didnt click off the video lol
This is one of those videos you watch and expect to see it having a million plus views. The amount of effort put into this is outstanding. Amazing job Freddo.
i discovered your content through a friend that started playing your mod and i have to say, it's really fun having a wandering drone on your team in the earlygame to do stuff like finding a spot for a base and building it, as well as starting up things like farming and a storage system. at the same time as that, i personally started playing another modded character called wathom who has almost the exact opposite purpose. being made for combat and flourishing extremely well when played with adequate skill, approaching combat in a much different way (barreling toward it at light speed) much like how wandering drone approaches hunger in a much different way, and having a new 4th stat called adrenaline that needs to be carefully managed to get the most mileage out of it without getting yourself killed. the two put together made a surprisingly great pairing, with wandering drone setting up the base and doing early farming for tapes while wathom did combat for food since he's a carnivore. it still seems weird to me that the two characters were made by completely different people.
coincidence is a crazy thing, haha great story, I've yet to test the character in multiplayer (myself, other people have ofc) and I'm glad to hear about that synergy. sounds quite interesting
"Spriter is the worst animation software known to man" That's the second time I've heard a RU-vidr say that their animation software is hell today, now I'm wondering if SFM or Spriter is worse.
This looks really great! I really enjoy the TV like design, not only that but despite the modern-like look, I feel like the character actually belongs to the game, in a strange way. Considering the fact that a lot of the main game survivors have something to do with entertainment, like Maxwell, Wes, Wigfrid, and so on, it adds this familiarity to the mod. Overall, a really cool video!
Really glad you can still enjoy this spaghetti code game. I have played it since it was still vanilla Don't Starve, but fell off a few years ago. It barely works unless you play alone (lame for a game with 'Together' in it) or suffer from rubber banding or taking unfair damage. Soul crushing when considering I have 1,000 hours collectively.
Overall this was a really informative video I always thought that modding was hard but not THIS hard, as for the mod I really like it, usually character mods that replace the hunger meter are un-balanced op powerhouses or more fragile than Wes, anyways great video man hoping to see more quality videos like this one
I stumbled my way through modding Joker (from Persona 5) into the game. About a year later, the mod no longer works at all, and simply crashes. I have no idea why, because it looks like it's calling to dialog from the Forge.

Oh hey! I'm technically in this video! As one of the poor modders on the forum giving advice on somebody else's depreciated code that people are still using for some reason!!!!!!!
how much did they bribe you to do this ad, seriously, i dont think the general public of dont starve is older than like 16 Edit: I wanna respond to some comments without flooding people with notifs, so ill just leave them here to other people to read. Don't starve literally turned 10 years old with a little event to celebrate (skins and stuff). I honestly dont know where you got 15, so that isnt "spot on". Just cuz you didnt see any minors playing that doesnt mean they dont exist, infact one of the biggest DST youtuber, jakeyosaurus has a young audience. -- Okay now moving on to the ad itself, apparently thanks to a curious person on the replies of another comment the link goes straight to a NSFW image without having to verify your age, not very fun stuff yk. Freddo content is great but this is a COLOSSAL blunder IMO.
Tbf the Don't Starve franchise is almost 15 years old, so there must be some young adults at least. The sponsor is still hilariously out of place though
Beautiful video as usual. If you found some decent resources for modding, I'd be super interested in that. I did a bit of modding myself and I have a long way to go.
Well that sure does make me wanna create a character mod but knowing myself i will probably never finish it. Also love your character i cant wait to try it in a server with friends
Haha can confirm as a fledgling programmer we are not ok. (I learned an entire programming language over 2 days so I could make my Minecraft character blink!) Thankfully the script was in lua and not java (I love myself a little bit) so that was cool when i found out dst was in it.
i dont think the ad itself is creepy, it came with a warning and kids are gnna find stuff about sex online anyway, what i do think is ccreepy is that if you do click on the link (i was curious ok-) it takes you straight to an nsfw image and doesnt actually ask for age verification before offering to let you sign up. I dunno if it requires it to purchase cause i didnt go that far
This videos target audience is not children. There was an 18+ disclaimer. Its not creators job to watch out what children watch its their parents business on top of that youtube kids exists.
Watching the ad, I thought you will say "and they paid a lot of money for me to advertise this in a DST modding video", but... you didn't said it. Just casually advertised sex toys. This means you really care about unstigmatizing something so everydayish like sex, and not act like if everyone would live under a rock, and acknowledging that people... have sex. This is infinitely surprising, especially in a place like youtube where language like "unaliving" became the norm. I think you should continue. You are great! Some people say "but there are kids on youtube!" and that's true. There are also "Spiderman knocked up Elsa pregnant shocking" videos on youtube. I believe this is a much better representation of sex, and we need more of *this* than... those aforementioned weird clickbait videos, especially with the fact that they target _specifically_ kids.
I don't understand the controversy people are trying to put you through because of an ad... Typical reddit things I suppose. Very nice video, good production and stuff and it was indeed kinda funny to see you explain struggles of modding as a modder myself (we all hate spriter)
graves aren't the only way to obtain tapes - there are many, many things that drop them, lots of which are renewable. (tumbleweeds, trees, boulders) graves are just your best bet in the early game
are children under the age of 15 really going to unironically watch this to learn about dst mod development though? there's already a lot of significantly more educational dst modding vids on youtube most ppl don't even watch the sponsored section anyways, and those that actually are interested will have to be adults to get access to the products themselves
