What to do if you find a baby deer:
Thank you for having the self-awareness and humility to ask the question “I found a baby deer… what do I do?”. The truth is, most people don’t know what to do and this causes a lot of stress and even death among the deer populations.
This video was created because thousands of baby deer are found by humans every year and many of them become habituated to humans, injured, or are taken from their mothers. My hope with this video is that it allows you to be part of the solution rather than the problem.
Whitetail deer are abundant in the United States and Canada. The populations have rebounded due to the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. As ironic as it might sound, the careful biological study and conservation efforts of hunters has helped many iconic species, including the whitetail deer, return to prior population sizes.
Any time a population increases, especially in areas where there is high density like my home state of Texas, there are more human and animal interactions. But most people live and grow up in urban environments with little to no knowledge of wildlife behavior. That was me for much of my life!
If you find a baby deer you’re most likely thinking how you can support this amazingly cute animal. I understand. But watching this video will ensure that you support the animals you love with knowledge on your side.
