3:33 WOW I say I haven't seen lightning all day then FLASH BOOM over and over, I did not even notice the flashes of lightning, I was paying attention to my camera screen and focusing on the flood
I love the idea of you just coming out of the woods in a torrential downpour, fixing a flooded street clog, then disappearing back into the woods again. Truly some epic thunder as well; I'm jealous. Thanks for all that you do!
love how he’s saying there’s not lightning…when there’s lightning the entire time he’s standing there by the water while the thunderstorm is super close to him
Just watching this and I’m amazed and a little horrified at the same thing! How is he not seeing it?!! I can see the flash clearly on camera, and some of those strikes are really close, too! Unclogging drains is cool and helpful, but I would not be out there right then with that blitz going on. Better to wait to wait a while for it to pass than risk your life. I had a family member almost killed by lightning, and she was just standing in an open doorway. Standing in water is literally one of the worst things you can do in a thunderstorm. If he truly can’t see when it’s lightning like this, and the thunder isn’t a big clue, he should put a lightning detector app on his phone. Weatherbug has one built into their free weather app and I use it all the time. I’m worried one of his next videos is going to be titled, “Man Killed by Lightning while Unclogging Street Drain”. :( Yikes.
I can only assume that the camera is picking up the lightning That his eyes can't. What's distressing is that, if you count the interval between the lightning and the Thunder, it's less than zero. Meaning the Lightning's right on top of him.
Although he probably shouldn't say that he was "cleaning the pipes." Sometimes, he even goes deep inside of pipes - probably shouldn't say that either.
lmao, i go through that man!!! i go for big ass bike rides and every time i come back after like 2 hours my woman, (jokingly) is always talkin shit. lmao.
Someone already said this but that it’s some of the craziest and best sounding thunder I’ve ever heard. I literally feel like I’m there it sounds so good
genuinely worried for this guy, he says he hasn't seen lightning but thunder always comes from lightning and that is not the sound of distant lightning either. that's the kind of crackle you hear when it strikes really close by, so it's either jumping between clouds straight overhead or he's missing the flash somehow.
@@dietotaku yes it is! At some points in the video i even saw the lightning going across the sky from the reflection of the water. And this guy didnt even flinch, camera was steady the whole time
You can’t total a car by flooding the engine wtf. All water would do is hydro lock it. To fix it would only require boring out and resleeving/honing cylinders, new pistons/rings, rods, crank, bearings, and valves. That together is only a couple grand depending on the car.
@@AJS_Drums usually if you flood the engine the water is probably high enough to fry all the electronics inside the car then it's just not even worth the repair.
@@AJS_Drums "only a couple grand depending on the car". Most cars on the street are worth under 2k lol... aka totaled because its more expensive to repair then the car is worth.
During hurricane Ike, I uncloged the drain of my street while every other street filled with water. The neighbors looked at me crazy as I was out there pulling branches from the drain. I was the first to be outside early in the morning and about an hour later, the entire neighborhood was helping me go street to street unclogging drains and reducing waist high flood water. Felt good that day.
Congrats to you, but my question is, why does everybody forget to do this when it is dry out. Post 10 could save himself a lot of trouble, but I guess we would not be as impressed.
@@jrus690 the drains often aren’t clogged when it’s dry out. What tends to happen is heavy rain will wash debris down to the drain eventually clogging it.
I live at the bottom of a hill and everyone blows their grass clippings and leaves out into the street. they all come down to my house and clog the drains right outside my driveway. I go out there every few weeks and clear it out. IDK what they're going to do when we move out in the next year or so lmao.
10:36 "Today is like a - awesome day. It's, like, 95 degrees, with 70% humidity." On a day like this, many people would stay in their air conditioned houses. You're out in the rain clearing flooded storm drains. I love your positive attitude.
“It stopped raining” you can clearly see it still is raining when he said it. “I can hear thunder but i havent seen any lightning today” also clearly visible a few times before he mentioned this. Also seeing the lightning flashes right before the thunder tells me the lightningbolts are pretty close aswell
I have NEVER thunder like that before. Sounds really severe. I was concerned about you STANDING IN THE WATER. So often in a short time in between. Surprised that you haven't seen ANY lighting. WOW. Another great video. 👍👍
Just a reminder to anyone who sees an opportunity to do this in the future, please be very careful when approaching a drain cover that you cannot see. There have been cases of people attempting to do this and unfortunately drowning because of there not actually being a cover there, or the cover had shifted enough for a gap to form.
Guy in upstate ny got sucked into a pipe pushing someone’s car in the flood. The cover got pushed off. Sucked him right in. Everyone there was in shock. Found his body miles away in the pipe. Truly sad and scary. Got to be smart and safe
@@leftfordead8336 when I was a kid I would go out and play in flooded water after it rained and I think back and I’m stunned at how dangerous that truly was. Very very dangerous. Everyone should teach they’re kids to be safe in flooded water. Kids have no idea the danger.
I could imagine the guy at the next community meeting saying “IM TELLING YOU GUYS SOME GUY CAME OUT THE WOODS UNCLOGGED THE DRAIN AND WENT BACK INTO THE WOODS AND I NEVER SEEN HIM AGAIN” now the whole neighborhood thinks he is the weirdo lmfaooo
From time to time I come back to those videos and I really can't find words to explain how much I loved watching them and how much they helped me calm myself. I really miss those, it's kind of a shame that the dmv keeps the good ones clean. I wish you would go to the neighboring cities or counties to find such floods, man, we need those kind of videos back ❤️
Dude..be very careful with these situations. We had a flood problem in our city. A good Samaritan like you, attempted to help a lady with her car that was parked in the street. The flooding was so bad, it actually lifted a manhole cover completely out. The kid had no clue about this, and ultimately he fell down and died in the sewer system. Just terrible.
My friend got sucked into a drain hole in the 90’s clearing a drain from underneath the interstate (one side to the other). Other than hyper flexed knees, he survived. Not safe at all
8:29. “Well, the flood’s gone. That’s all I came here to do.” True heroes, that never ask for a thank you, speak these words. Post 10 is awesome. Thank you Post 10.
This gives me memories of childhood. I never did this exact thing, opening up drains, but I did things that were a little bit like this. My brother and I used to crawl through big metal storm drains, not while they were full of water, but when it was mostly dry. I was mostly scared of spiders. I found out later, as an adult, that toxic gases can build up, if you go really deep inside the drains, depending on how the drain is shaped. Some gases rise upwards, and some gases sink downwards, into high or low parts of the drain. My brother and I also built small dams in creeks, just dams made out of sticks and leaves.
Bram van Z. ?! The first couple were around 600 to 700 meters away. Took roughy 1.75-2 seconds for the thunder. That third one was less than 257 meters.
@@Nico97fr Oooooh, a sassy Norwegian. I wrote it that way because he said it that way. I live in Sweden. Here's a joke. How do you say genius in Norway? Answer: Tourist. Bring it on.
Thank you so much not only for draining the street but also for filming and posting and all of the info you gave. I don’t even know where you’re at but I loved learning about it and getting a tour of your area! Very satisfying to watch the street drain.
Depends on the problem. If the pipes are already backed up and surcharged, you have to do more than just remove trash and debris. Would require a better drainage system by in depth hydrologic and hydraulic design and analysis.
@@RisingInTheFlesh Sure. But if property owners had helped maintain the system, then we wouldn't be faced with the problem now. Wanna bet who's gonna complain?
@@stevenwilson879 I agree that they have some obligation to clean it but that's what stormwater management easements are for. I think if more people paid attention to their surroundings like post10, we wouldn't have as many maintenance operations.
Wow , that lightning thunder sound is crazy man. That’s scary , too loud and sounds so unreal. Even I live in tropical area where it rains most of the year where there is lightning and thunder but the level of sound that is heard in your video is on another level.
Keep up the good work! You help a lot of people quite literally with your actions, we as viewers get entertained, and I'd imagine the feeling you get inside when you've cleared a new clog isn't bad :) Keep it up and stay safe, dude!
Just a bit of advice for you as a road worker in the UK I found broken drain grate covers so I suggest that you do not stand on them when you cannot see them because you might find that one is cracked or damaged and you will fall through it the same as the rainwater will so be careful never stand on a drain cover you can't see because you don't know what condition is in
Some tell of a legend, of a man in a raincoat and hazard vest who emerges from the woods to kick some leaves off a drain and then... scurries back into the woods
Post respects people's private property as well. This is just an all around awesome guy. Hey post, if you're ever at the Jersey Shore, drinks on me. You're the man.
Good job! So many people would see the problem but they they are "too good" to stop and take care of it. I find it very satisfying to see that water clear. Thank you!
@@Jamie-tx7pn did you even read my comment. I was implying that city workers could have access to the drainage system or have professional equipment to take care of the blockage, instead of the residents
@@sadnessofwildgoats If you watch closely you can see that there's less than two seconds between the flash and the sound. Sound moves at about 1100 feet per second, or a mile in about five seconds. That means that the lightning was less than half a mile away. Also if the sound more like a crackling than a rumble, it means the lightning it really close, and you might be in the danger zone.
It's a hard choice to make, but this still my favorite of your videos -probably because it was my first, and i was thinking " why do I want to watch somebody clean out street drains?" and one minute into it, I realized "THIS is why I want to watch someone clean out drains!" Thanks, man.
You live in an absolutely beautiful area, I walk through the woods near us a lot it’s so peaceful. Thank you for using your spare time to keep paths and roads safe like that
It always surprises me that more people don't to unclog street drains after a heavy rain. All you have to do is find a sturdy piece of wood and poke a hole in the wet leaves blocking it. Two minutes later the huge puddle is gone.
Yah I've been watching too much found footage horror, I keep expecting jumpscares when watching his videos. Like the ones where he looks way down into dark culverts. I think for April Fools he needs to just do his thing and have creepy shit show up and not pay it any attention lol.
this guy transports me to the one and only time i unclogged a drain in our road when i was ten years old.. the excitement and satisfaction is palpable.. and im 53.
Don't think I've ever heard Thunder like that here in the U.K. sounds awesome.. ohh and great job with the drainage.. it's a pity there are not many more people around like u who are willing to go out of your way to help others 👌🏻👊🏼🙏.. top man
Yeah it's kind of sad that even the city by me doesn't have workers to unclog clogged drains for flooded streets, everytime my street floods no one cares. I go out there and do the cities job like this guy does
@@mtmcommunity its not so bad honestly, I think this is the type of thing that for the most part people can do on their own, and besides, flash floods are hard for the city to know about or get to quickly unless its on a major road.
@@mtmcommunity although I agree, ideally the city should be able to maintain these drains, there are just so many its unrealistic. All you need is more people like this on your streets and you really wont have to worry about it.
A wonderful video. A good reason to be a good neighbor in our areas and help keep garbage and debris out of the grates. We have one on our cul de sac, but there is so much grass in the cracks between the curb and street (just a few of us keep our curbs free of grass) that holds a lot of water keeping the water from reaching the grate. We are stewards and a lot of people don't care. Thanks for this
His knowledge and experience is priceless , genuine article of next level problem solver for the city with infrastructure issues on drainage , a consultant for lack of a better word.,🤔👍💪✌️🖖🙏💎👼
Be aware that if flooding is heavy enough, back pressure in the pipes can actually lift manhole covers off and send them careening down the street which can break your legs. Be careful!!
@@jonathanpilcher337 this water goes into stormdrains which are a different line than sewage. You might wonder why, but its because most watersystems cannot treat sewage and storm water quick enough, so they chose to not even risk spilling sewage
@@jonathanpilcher337 No they are separate systems but similar in function. Both can have manholes but only a storm drain will have catch basins, which is what the young man in the video is attempting to "unclog". He's making a large number of incorrect assumptions about why they're clogging up and where the pipes are running.
As a highway safety inspector in the UK, you can imagine I spend a lot of time clearing floods (even though I’m not supposed to). It’s probably the most satisfying part of my varied job 😊
@@adrielburned6924 Woody Guthrie was a communist and that song is a communist song, it's a direct attack on the concept of private property, just so you're aware.
You can see the reflection of a lightning bolt in the water at 4:52. You're one dedicated man to focus on a clogged drain standing in deep water while there's lightning all around you.
chiknkein nugeget electricity takes the path of least resistance and lightning goes into the sky weather he’s standing in water or not it would probably hit him and not the water and if it did hit the water the electricity would go Straight to the ground and not make the whole water spicy
Movie Hermit bro I swear it looks like there is two things moving the in the background when he says the thing about the laundry machine. All of the sudden he’s like oop, gotta turn my camera off.
This is a weird thing for me to notice/point out, but those are some prime thunder sounds imo. Like, I dunno why, but to me they're just kind of satisfying to hear. They sound cool. Hats off to you for doing something about this flood, who knows how much worse it would have gotten if you didn't do something.
i love the comedic timing when he says "even though youre hearing a lot of thinder, i have not seen any lightning whatsoever" **MASSIVE FUCKING LIGHTNING FLASH**
Dude, you're brave af. Storms in Maine are NO JOKE! Neither are Deer Ticks. I've been following your New England Wildlife and More channel for years but just recently stumbled upon this one. Good stuff, man. Hope you got yourself a nice Lobstah and Steamahs after this one!
