Mike recounts a Search and Rescue call out where he found a man who had fallen into Utah Lake and froze...just in time to save him. Brothers Mike and Mark Patey have been a part of Utah County Search and Rescue for over 15 years, helping to bring people home to their families and giving back to the community by donating their time, money, airplanes, and talents to the efforts.

One of the things I love about Mike's channel is he does not do this for the money. He doesn't need any income from RU-vid to begin with, but you can tell that he is genuinely trying to share his passion of aviation with others. No other motive or reason. For that, this is my favorite channel on RU-vid. And I'm not even a pilot.

As a SAR technician and an aviator who uses his personal aircraft for SAR work, I'm all for the SAR related videos! My most memorable rescue was a young 16yr old girl, who fell off a cliff, we got called out for a body recovery late Sunday afternoon, first technician down discovered she was still alive! We worked on her attached to ropes on the side of a cliff for a few hours, eventually getting her topside and into an air ambulance. Sadly she died in theater in the early hours of the next morning.

So funny and such a good story. I am myself a search and rescue trained scuba diver. So I know the feeling...... Most rewarding is to find the person and recover him alive. But even if not at least the family has something to berry knowing for a fact he/she didn't make it. When I go into the water with my gear I am down for up to 3h straight which freaks people out because they are so used to max 1h dive time. And it makes a hell of a difference this extra time you are in the water or in the air so I know exactly how you feel. Always pushing the limits to advance forward. Thank you for sharing.

It is so special to see you investing in the search and rescue world to do an even better job with greater capability than you have already. My brother in law flew a Huey in Vietnam and part of their training was to auto-rotate. He told me some guys "landed" 10 feet in the air - others were still trying to land - all they needed was another 10 feet of altitude. It is a skill well worth honing. Thanks for the great story of the rescue.

I was in search & rescue in Missoula County Montana from 1975 to 1977. The first time I rappelled out of a helicopter was also the first time the pilot had someone rappel out of his helicopter. We both learned some things that day - I learned to put a knot at the end of my rope - the pilot learned to watch his altimeter, not me. But by the end of the day we both got pretty good at our practice.

Insane story and that man had the luck of a thousand people in a moment, that you guys decided "let's make one more pass". Life and death stuff.

Mike listens & trusts that still small voice. You only hear it when you are not troubled or conflicted. Life lesson there.

Excellent video and beautiful Bell. Being retired LEO and having friends that are Law Enforcement Helicopter pilots, S&R is a great thing to do. God Bless.

“If you want to see more videos of search and rescue.......” Mike, if you post a video of you planting flowers, I will watch it. I’m not the fanboy type. But, you seem like the most genuine person I have ever come across. I love planes ( don’t fly anymore) but your knowledge, kindness, and enthusiasm is infectious.

I'm a firefighter so I get soaked a lot. Last winter my gear froze and got so stiff I could barely move. The most painful was the gloves and the moisture inside. It was 4AM and -5°C
