That mantis is not fully grown yet. Mantids go through various stages of development (L1(baby) - L8(adult)). It looks like the mantis you found is probably L6 or L7. If you look closely where the thorax meets the abdomen you can see the wing buds are starting to develop. When the mantis has it's final shed, that's when it will get it's wings :) ---- I've owned several mantids.
I believe this mantis might be a D. Truncata, as opposed to Lobata. Also this is not as big as it'll get. This one has one moult to go and it'll be a fully grown adult, with a full set of wings. The adults have a spectacular defence posture, using the brightly coloured inside of the raptorial arms and wings.
@@user-td9oy4tx2e i had mantids as pets many years ago and I remember the Deroplatys species as they were among the more sought after species at the time.
@@gypsygirl0715 go have a look at a mantis' front end close up, then do the same with a cockroach. The similarities are actually really striking. I had a little "wow!" moment when I found this out.
It is Amazing that you are able to interact with these animals and the animals are able to just be them selfs and able to not think of you as a threat to them. I watch your videos all the time and every video you guys are always spreading the good words about animals and animal conservation. It is truly amazing and I thank you for informing everyone about these things.
As a zoology student in Sarawak, during our field ecology that involve us catching and releasing back those animal, we encountered most of these animals. Especially that liogaster. It bit me and my finger bleed 😅. We also caught several nasuta frogs and almost killed them due to improper handling 🥲
I really enjoyed seeing the Frog. The Dead leaf mantis was really cool too though. We have a whole bunch of small Preying Mantises running around here at my house in SLC Utah. They are about 1” to 1 1/2” long right now at the end of July.
Creatures that can camouflage are always cool! I've seen a orchid mantis, I've never seen a dead leaf mantis though. All of these creatures are awesome!
the species of the mantis is Deroplatys desiccata, not Deroplatys lobata, and no it is not a fully grown adult, it is a sub-adult female, it needs to molt once more to become an adult
As a kid I always dreamt of having a job going out into nature and catching things! That Wallace's flying frog is one of my all time favorites! That mantis was an awesome find as well! To encounter so many things in nature that you do must be so invigorating!
Awesome video! Just one small correction for the sentence at 7:33: This is not an adult specimen, since it doesn't have fully developed wings yet. So they do in fact get bigger. This one is most likely subadult or presubadult.
Leaf bugs are some of the coolest insects to ever exist. I've loved South America and the rainforest since I was in grade school. Such a majestic extraterrestial place.
On one of the last live streams, ciottie told us about a wolf that was killed in Wyoming and it sounded like he was comparing hunters to the person who killed the wolf and just saying hunters do not do that
I saw a giant walking stick walking across a busy road in TX. It was so beautiful, but who knows if it ever got across. It was so big I saw it briefly at a stop light, but I did not have enough time to get out or anything.
Mark Vins!!! You've learned so much about how to make engaging content from Coyote. At the same time you're still uniquely yourself. Keep up the good work!
This is fascinating and a bit eerie! 🍂🔍 Finding a 'murder leaf' is like stumbling upon a real-life mystery in nature. It’s incredible how the natural world can sometimes produce such intriguing and unusual phenomena. Thanks for sharing this unique find!
Since you basically taken over coyotes job or whatever you've done a really good job and I enjoy your content a lot It's really informative and it's fun to watch you get stung and bit by things coyote was a little over dramatic LOL but I still love his videos
Mabye next should be another murder alien but shoots blood from its eyes a hint is its a lizard or a one that flys technically glides tree to tree also a reptile green or brown too pls good videos btw ❤️
@@therealeverladeyou should look up some betterhelp horror stories. It’s an incredibly unprofessional company to the point that it can be dangerous to its patients.
@@Dells16 There are 5 recognized 'flying snake' species, can be found in western India to southeast asia What they do is climb up really tall trees, jump off and glide to the next tree
That is a female deroplatys desiccata nymph, mate. No wings until adult and nowhere near as big as they get lol. I'm surrounded by them in here 😆Fun video.
First is formidable but found first. First let’s find a first frog that’s first in every first way, if not first then second in all of everything. Nevertheless the first is a great one or is it the alliance that first will come on top!
I've lived in Southern California L.A. County cities my entire life. And sure I've seen plenty of mantids at different houses. But the house Im at now near North East Long Beach, I've never seen so many. Some summers, it's an infestation. I love em, but why so many now? Is it just area even though I've lived in literally the touching 3 cities next to me and never saw this many? So cool to try and hold em, some are really chill. Others, not so much. I've actually held more chill females than males.
I'm trying to do research on this but can't find anything? What is wrong with Betterhelp? I have heard this a lot recently, and it seems like you get what you pay for therapy sessions essentially.
@@zackm9910 they don’t adequately screen therapists leading to people having calls with extremely unprofessional people, and they’ve been known to share confidential information including conversations specifically shared between a client and their therapist in therapy.
