I saw Delap in one of his early games (vs Mexico). He didn't take a single throw in. I remember Harte taking them. Just goes to show that Mick McCarthy was tactically clueless. even if throw-ins can be trained as any other set-piece, but you need something more for THAT. Rory Delap used to be a pro at javelin, and that gave him an upper ground in terms of throw-ins

@andrasszabo I disagree. It's more likely that being a throw-in specialist is not exactly glamorous, compared to the traditional skills of dribbling and shooting. And it's not a case of asking everyone to do it, you need one volunteer. Actually most teams usually have a guy who has a longer throw which they exploit when possible.

@@agungredking9160 ...there you go. It takes a lot longer for the ball to travel into the area on a full sized pitch. That gives defenders longer to position themselves. That's why only a few people like delap are able to deliver the throw with enough speed and accuracy to make it effective.
