Dave was smart to bring him on. So many people who were calling really needed a therapist almost more than they needed financial advice.

This is a personal subject for me, as my dad left my mom when I was about a year old. Guy was not great, and I never saw him again. When I was about fifteen, he sent me an email that, at first, seemed like he was genuinely interested in my life. Something to remember about people like this: they've done things as they've pleased for so many years- don't anticipate that they've suddenly changed. If they don't want something from you (like money), then anticipate them seeking closure, or a way of rationalizing them abandoning you. Keep these people in no greater proximity than they've decided to place themselves already, and don't anticipate that they want to be a part of your life. I was cordial at first, but decided I didn't enjoy talking to the guy so much. His vain personality and selfishness made me more aware of the person I didn't want to become, and that was the only thing he'd ever done for me right up until the day he died. I had a real dad in my life from an early age who stepped in, and I don't care to acknowledge that anyone other than he is my dad. And I am grateful for it.

What’s sad is that the people that are sometimes abandoned seek out the ones that abandoned them . They ones that abandoned them don’t deserve a second of their time 😔

Dr. D, You hit the nail in the head with the PPD. I’ve dealt with it after 4 pregnancy and 2 miscarriages. Here are some practical things that a husband can DO to help: She needs to know you love her and it’s okay to rest and heal. She needs you to take as much of the home stuff as you can. These are some things you can fix!

I met with them on May 24th for lunch. My mom went with me; got there a little early so the waiting made me nervous. Once they came and started talking, I relaxed and had fun. We talked about our emails and stuff we hadn't gotten to. After lunch, we sat in the courtyard and looked at a picture album she brought.

"You spent a part of your twenties in a war that cannot be won, and you came out the other side. You went to battle with the one person you can't defeat, and that's you. And you've come to make peace with who you are, you've come to relove yourself again, you've connected because you're worthy of being connected to...I don't want you to think of your 20s as something that you wasted. I want your 20s to be where you tilled some hard, hard soil, and now you're ready to grow. You're a a walking victory." Doc Delaney, I've been working through something tough, though different, and I've managed to overcome it - thank God. Hearing your encouragement to Emma was an encouragement to me. It's so good and helpful. Thank you.

I’m an anorexia survivor who finished treatment around 2018. I still have so much regret for how far it set me back. I initially equated lockdown, which is still going on in my state, to the time I feel like I lost battling it. I sincerely appreciate Emma for reaching out and putting words to how this feels.

I help people find their birth parents and if you wait for them to reach out, it may never happen. They may have no idea how to contact you too. You could regret for the rest of your life not doing it, so yes meet them. Start slow and just see where it goes. For some it can be life changing and very healing. For others it can be painful. Just depends on everyone's personalities.

I have two siblings and two cousins that were given up at birth. All people have strengths and weaknesses. We all live far away. We could stay in better touch. My sister is like my twin. But she is absorbed in her life problems. I’m tickled pink when we get to talk❣️ One cousin I love her and her daughter my niece❣️❣️ The other is on drugs. My brother is angry and intense.

When Kimberly was talking about her birth parents and John was encouraging her to get in contact with them, he was talking about the aspect of “she’ll always wonder” but I had another thought on top of that - what if one of her bio parents died and that opportunity was lost forever! I was 30 when I found my biological dad. I had thought for years that he must have died because he didn’t have any social media and I couldn’t ever find him in the phone books (turns out we had the wrong spelling of his last name) I was the product of an alcohol fueled high school one night stand 😅 so my mom barely knew him (he went to a different high school and he actually got kicked out of the house shortly after so my mom hadn’t been able to tell him she was pregnant) so for my 30th birthday my in-laws bought me 23&Me because they knew I had always wanted to find my dad. I did the test, I found him, the first time we talked was Valentine’s Day 2019. I was 39 weeks pregnant with my second child so not only was it “hey! You have a 30 year old daughter!” But “also, she’s married and you have two grandkids” 😂 there was no denying I was his daughter, I look so much like him and my half siblings. The reason I couldn’t find him on social media is because he’s a mountain man type guy who lives in the middle of no where 😂 I met my sister for the first time in 2022 because she was attending college in the same state I live and would pass through. I finally got to meet my dad and two brothers in August of 2023. It was so awesome and they’ve been nothing but welcoming. On that trip my brother’s wife had just had a baby so I got to meet my newborn niece as well! It’s crazy to think of myself now as someone with siblings. I had wanted siblings so badly as a kid! (Alas, I was an only child) It would have been so sad if my dad really had died and I never got to experience meeting him and building a relationship. Her birth parents may reject her offer and that would absolutely be devastating but it’s a risk worth taking!

Some people should not have kids if one of the parents has a health issue. The kids could end up inheriting the same health issue as one of the parents.

Since the caller is in communication with her biological grandmother, who presumably is the parent of either the caller's mother or father, has she asked questions about her parents? This young woman seems really ambivalent and passive about the whole thing.

You don't know the situation. I'm pro life and I think Christians should be more open to adoption and be more compassionate towards those who chose life, but also chose to place the child up for adoption. They could have aborted the baby instead.

I have an uncle with that same attitude who was adopted out into a rich family. Little does he understand his biological father was physically abusive and his mother made sure he got a better life.

Sometimes they need to put kids up for adoption to ensure a better life…. Maybe there’s Mental illness, abuse in the family, maybe the dad is a pervert

@@denisebradley8151True, but 17, in school., one shouldn't be having sex anyway. This is too common in society back then and even now. It's sad, this is not how God intended family to be.
