Due to cold (the upper eyelid became more and more fatter in order to not catch cold) and snow refraction during daytime). The eyelid became more and more pronounced until it covered itself. This evolutionary process haven't only occured with Asians but with Europeans as well (see for example the Irish actor Barry keoghan or the Italian model Cristiano Caccamo or his father Michele Caccamo). They definitely have something uncommon for euros but those feature are arising fast in Northern Europe
