My dad and step mom were the ones who adopted cooper, and I just came across this video! He’s such a sweet and playful boy, with thick thick curly hair now. He definitely went to a loving home with a nice big back yard and a new little brother 😆 thanks for transforming him!!!
Awesome! After having such thick matting removed, I bet every loving pet and scratch felt so good in his new home. They are awesome for adopting a big stinky dark mess of a sweet dog. ❤
Think about this, clearly he hasn't been groomed before and yet, today he was given THREE baths, TWO shaves, a trimming with scissors, a nail clipping, paw pads shaved, grinch feet trimmed and yet he was a perfect gentleman the entire time, almost 3 hours!!!! He is a hero! And so is Vanessa, for spending the time and effort and patience to get this hero back in beauty shape! Some lucky humans will have this sweet boy as their companion :)
He almost definitely has been groomed before, there's grey in his muzzle so I'd guess this dog is at least 6 years old, and I'd guess the grooming neglect started about 18-24 months ago based on how long the fur is. Still, he did amazing putting up with such a long and uncomfortable groom!
I always find it amazing when dogs this neglected still trust people enough to be this well behaved. This family just got the goodest of good boys and so pretty when he's cleaned up!
I agree. Lots of dogs especially big ones would be very difficult to bathe. fighting you all the way. This baby just calmly stood there. I bet poor thing never got taken care of.
I rescued non shedding dogs for many years and they arrived sometimes in horrendous conditions. Almost all, though frightened and sore, seemed to know you wanted to help them, and generally let you do what was needed. Us humans often don’t deserve their trust but they do, bless them.
I was not expecting those long legs LOL! You can tell he totally understood you were helping him and man I bet he feels SOOO much better. You are an angel.
Cooper got those poodle legs. Even before anything was done I looked at this dog and thought "Wow, that's a good stance there." Once he has a grown-out properly maintained coat this dog is going to be so handsome.
Such a big thank you to the family that was able to look past the coat and smell to adopt this wonderful dog. Now he gets to start a new better coat with his new better life!
OMG When Vanessa was drying him with the towel, he realized she was drying his legs, and he PUT HIS FRONT LEFT PAW IN THE TOWEL ON HIS OWN!!!! He's so smart! What a sweet boy, he's definitely going to be a great companion for the people who adopted him!
You're awesome for grooming this guy pro-bono! I'm a vet and see severely matted pets occasionally. Watching your videos, I've learned tips to better help them. Thank you!!!
Absolutely, that's why it's important to try and be the kind of person you want to see! Being compassionate and empathetic is the first step to making the world better imo
He was so calm and trusting - I sometimes think rescues are so relived to be in lovng hands that they'd put up with almost anything to not be alone in the world again.
@@ialrakis5173 i can’t imagine how good it must have felt to get that first patch of fur off. He definitely noticed there that she was trying to help him.
Now that he has been freed from his painful coat, it's obvious he was neglected in more ways than just grooming. He has almost no muscle mass in his hind quarters. He's so lucky to have been rescued and taken care of. Now on to his forever home for him, and on to another pup in need for Vanessa. Thank you Vanessa, you rock.
I'm gonna guess based on his behavior that he was just neglected and not actively abused, like, someone got him and just didn't care for him or didn't give him any more care than food, water, and maybe taking him outside to do his business. I think this because Cooper isn't acting as scared or flinchy around Vanessa as you'd expect an actively abused animal would. I say actively because neglect is more of a passive form, meaning the previous owner wasn't going out of their way to actively hurt him, but passively ignored his needs. Still doesn't make it any less bad, just different than active abuse.
@@greenie15 I would call physical abuse a form of active abuse, I'd consider active abuse to be someone intentionally going out of their way to cause pain and suffering in another being. this could be either physical, mental, emotional, or even financial when it comes to a human inflicting suffering on another person. I mean that it seems like whoever had the dog before didn't go out of their way to purposely inflict harm on it, they just simply ignored it into deterioration until it was discovered and untimely removed from that situation. This can even be done unintentionally by someone who doesn't know any better, which could've been the case. But yeah, I don't think Cooper was beaten or yelled at really, I just think his previous owner either didn't know or didn't care to pay attention to him or give him anything other than the absolute bare minimum he needed to stay alive and (barely) physically healthy. Which is still sad and messed up and I'm glad Cooper now has a home that actually cares for him now.
We have a rescued Blue-merle Aussiedoodle. She came from an 'accidental' backyard breeding situation. She had not been groomed for 6-8 months, and looked more like a matted filthy Old English Sheepdog than anything. I was startled at how actually slim she is, once the masses of hair & dirt was shaved off of her. The groomer has lots of experience with doodles and advised that standard poodles (& she is 50%) are normally very slim and agile. Their musculature is more like a runner or thoroughbred horse than a weight lifter.
Could you possibly show a follow up a few weeks or months after such a dramatic shave down, so we can see what the dog looks like as he grows back a well cared for coat? That would be terrific! Thanks
HOORAY COOPER🎉 I felt good just watching him get out of his yucky mess. Now that he’s clean, groomed, has a new family, I hope he gets allll the love and care he deserves!
These doodles absolutely break my heart. So many of them end up in rescues when they are no longer small enough to mimic stuffed animals and their coats are so difficult. This is such a good thing you're doing, thank you!
Why on Earth would you want to cross-breed the gratest breed of all (i.e. standard poodle) anyway? Get a poodle, for heaven´s sake and enjoy his company! Why complicate things?
@@jguitar23 Exactly! Just a good brushing over the top and a line combing under the coat is all they take, it's tragic people don't realize this is all they need.
Cooper had been wanting a quality grooming for so long! No wonder he was a real gentleman once he realized what was happening! Beautiful work and a beautiful dog! Thanks for bringing us along to watch!
He acts like he's been groomed before, whether home or professional. He was a very well behaved gentleman. He looks like he has a new lease on life. Thank you for all you do 🐕❤️
Even though his coat was in such bad shape, Cooper was already a joyful and friendly doggie. Thank you for giving him such gentle mercy and freeing him to start his new life.
Watching this made me tear up . What an amazing person you are . Cooper became a brand new dog . I know he has to feel 100 % better . God Bless You ....
You are amazing, keep posting. Your demeanor around dogs says it all. Watched the episode with the Mastiff. He was twice your size but he melted in your hands. Thank You for you work with rescue Animals.
You can just tell automatically he's feeling better just by his more relaxed stance at the end. You could also see when it started to really feel good when he sniffed his fur almost as if he was saying, "it's getting a bit chilly in here"
IMHO, this is why dogs don’t live long enough . They just get it right, they don’t hold grudge and Cooper’s patience thru this amazing grooming experience just boggles me! Vanessa you are an artist in the tradition of your Nonna and Nonno. You sculpted a dog and created a masterpiece. Congratulations🙏
By how matted he is I doubt he's ever been to a groomer before, so it's just amazing how well behaved he is during this whole process. He seems like a really sweet dog and the people who adopted him are super lucky, as is he for them adopting him and taking him to the goomers to get all that matting off
Poodles and Doodles and their mixes mat at the drop of a hat, because they shed into their coats. We had a Lhasapoo (she was a stray, and feral. It took about four months before we could even touch her), and she was horribly matted. It took hours to groom her (we did it ourselves the first time, then utilised a groomer).
He must know that he is saved and going to a better place. Poor baby. Dogs are so loving, an animal that loves their owners more than they love themselves. Anybody that abuses that privlege and joy is evil and should be punished!
"What happened to you? Where did you come from?" I imagine if dogs could talk, they'd tell us some of the most incredible stories. Heart breaking, heart warming, all kinds of stories. Some dogs have lived through more than most humans have. I love his cute little white chin. He did very well for possibly his first ever groom, better than my little menace would. Poor baby, I bet he feels so much better! Like a whole new dog!
I wonder if it's not his first groom. He's so well behaved with everything. Makes me wonder if this wasn't a dog taken in after a family member died and then they discovered they weren't equipped to deal with a dog like this. Or didn't care.
I adopted a senior Maine Coon so matted and neglected she had fungus under the mats. I couldn't find any groomer who would take her, so I worked on her for two weeks. I wish I'd known about Girl with the Dogs with all her wonderful advice and inspiring patience!
How is your cat doing now? Your an awesome person for taking in a matted cat, plus he's a senior kitty, people don't really adopt senior cats, especially a matter one. So kudos to you, You Rock!!! ☺️💙😻 btw I would love an update on your new 🐈
He's such a well behaved guy for someone who probably has little to no grooming history! Whoever adopted him made a great choice, and I wish Cooper a happy life. Thank you so much for helping out the dogs at your Humane Society.
I think animals are somehow grateful when we take care of them. Some flatmates and me took care of a stray kitty: her mouth was so bad she refused the food, and she even looked feverish. We gave her a children's medicine, and I bet that thing burned like hell over her infection, but she took it all in complete silence. She even "hugged" our hands after the dosis. She is now a healthy gal, living with one of the boys ❤️
@@ZurditaDinamita very grateful but you can tell he was scared since he was too stressed to eat the treats. He knows that this is good for him but can't help but be stressed because he's probably in pain.
Ahhhh, that was such a lovely gift for the new family. Cooper seems like such a sweet dog....he is on his way to a wonderful life. Thank you for sharing his story.
I really love your longer form content and appreciate you sharing such amazing transformations with us... thank you for donating grooms to help rescued animals feel brand new 💖💖
She said the Canadian "sorry"!!! That made me happy!! And thank you for taking care of animals like this and educating the public!! I have learned a lot of helpful pet care tips through your videos!!
How could anyone let such a good, sweet boy like Cooper get so matted? Even matted to hell, he's still gorgeous and he looks so wonderful after his groom, free of his fur-carpet prison! Thank you for helping him and I'm sure his new family will appreciate the fresh start you gave him.
Cause a lotta people buy these overpriced, unethical mutts for vanity reasons and don't invest in proper grooming tools, let alone learn how to use them. The vast majority of "doodles" I see in my city are matted. Cause the owners think they need to look fluffy and hate having their fur short, but also don't wanna spend 1-2hrs daily brushing - which is what a long hair poodle mix needs. Idk why you'd buy a dog that's half poodle and think it'll just .. magically groom itself tho. The way they "brush" is take a basic cheap hair brush and go over the top coat, which tightly mats the hair close to the skin together, invisible to the eye when you're not aware of what mats look like. Then rather than 1x monthly (like you need to with these mixed breed dogs) they only go to a groomer every 6-7 months or so, and surprise - dog is matted and has to be shaved. Then they get angry cause "clearly the groomer just wants money" and instead of learning and doing better, go to the groomer even more rarely. Doodles are mostly always bought by inexperienced first time owners who follow the hype - and this is what happens.
I prefer to think that perhaps someone couldn't brush or afford to keep him trimmed. I have a 14 yr old Jackapoo that dislikes me brushing him, let alone trimming some mats up. He needs to be groomed, but I don't have the 75 dollars to pay to get him groomed. I have been bribing him with some special treats. I can groom him that way. It also helps to give him an herbal/chicken supplement that calms him down nicely. Also, walking him or playing with him first tires him out. He has missed 2 grooming appts and needs them. I just can't afford it for a couple more months. 😩 I'm doing my very best. I'm even considering using my trimmers on him. Using that as a last resort. Just remember, be kind. He may have been very loved (he sure is sweet and tolerant) by someone who wasn't able to comb and brush or have him groomed professionally. Monetary hard times are upon so many of us. I do agree that this poor dog needs professional help, and this kind of matting takes a long time to get to this level. 😉 I just think this dog was loved and treated kindly by someone. We do not know the circumstances of the previous owner, or caretaker. I never thought I wouldn't be able to have my dog groomed every 3 months. Things happen. Be kind, please. 💜💚😊
@@jannettaktibbs7268 God bless you, Jannetta! What you said is very true, and I sincerely wish more people thought like you. Kind, gracious, not willing to think the worst of someone. The dog was obviously loved by it's previous owner. But grooming is pretty expensive, and can quickly turn into an unaffordable expense for some folks if their financial situation happens to change suddenly. For instance I can picture an elderly person having to give up the dog for any number of reasons. Thank you for taking the high road. Thanks for excellent example you set! 😘💌🥰
I don't think they let it happen on purpose. There could be any number of reasons. The owner may have had medical issues, or perhaps fell on hard times financially. I think the dog's behavior shows how loved it was; it was probably a very hard thing for the owner to surrender it.
He’s got those poodle legs! I bet he feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off his body! He looks so handsome and very happy!🐶🐾🐶🐾….you did an amazing job as usual!❤️
I love getting matted dogs shaved down and feeling clean and free! I don't enjoy seeing them come in that way, but I love helping them feel better. I'm so glad this happy boy gets to go to a new home where he will be taken care of! He did great! I wish our corporate shop would pay us something to do shelter dogs. We can't do them because of the liability. I think if they truly cared about pets they would make that a thing. Even if we did the rescue dogs for the shelter for free, the company should throw in something, it would be a tax write off. Maybe we as groomers can petition our respective companies into doing such work for our local shelters.
I know the shelters would appreciate groomers going in and clipping the puppers. I tried to help with a cocker who had been matted. The clippers they had were horribly dull and I didn't realize it until I tried using them. I am not a groomer but man I've done my share of dog grooming and nail trimming.
When you went to dry his paw he immediately gave it to you. He’s a sweet dog and I’m glad he’s going to good owners who can show him a better life than what he had before.
Such a sweetie. His new forever family are going to enjoy a wonderful companion. Thank you, Vanessa, for all the time you put into freebies for rescues.
I just watched another video of a groomer in the US and I want to commend you for the compassionate way you treat every animal you groom . These are living, feeling beings, not merely furry objects. Thank you 💕
I was going to say he’s one lucky dog to be freed from his matted prison but actually it’s his new owners who are the lucky ones to have gentle Cooper join their family. I pray he finally has the home and love he deserves.
What an amazing transformation, Cooper is so handsome. We adopted a toy poodle in 2003 and she was quite matted also. We took her to a local groomer that did free haircuts for rescues. She came out as Miss. Mimi the diva. She had bows in her hair and nails painted and prancing all over. She knew she looked so pretty. I miss my sweet little girl. Thank you for everything you do to help animals.
This is extremely interesting! No other groomers on RU-vid do wet shaves. I want to thank you for using your talents to help the voiceless animals. Because of you these animals will find a forever home and be happy
she’s the only groomer who’s actually empathetic towards dogs and doesn’t use the dogs bad condition as an excuse to hurt them extensively and without care 🤷🏽♀️ lol these other groomers are like mean doctors and nurses/nursing home employees. only in the field for the paycheck while extremely cruel towards their patients
@@angel1202003 Yes, she's the only groomer I've found that I can watch. The others I've seen just seem so rough with the animals and get irritated very quickly and show no compassion.
@@angel1202003 I agree with you on most of those points. I want to tell you about a couple of groomers who do the same stuff 100% for free. Look up Rover's makeover. She is just gone mobile and all of her mobile grooming will be free Grooms to people who cannot afford them and have dogs that are in bad condition. The other one is man's best friend. He is out of Serbia and he quit taking regular clients completely to do all Street dogs that were in horrific condition. He does this completely for free.
@@EchosJourney i’ve seen rovers makeover over the years, especially in 2019 ish. ..don’t like her... it’s great that she does it for free or for people that can’t afford it but she falls into the bad category of the first sentence i said. i agree mans best friends is a great channel though, everything he does is for free as you said and he is very sweet and empathetic towards the dogs he grooms ❤
this beautiful lady we love you for all you do to our wonderful furry friends, thank you hes a sweetheart clearly they didnt deserve him and ur a hero girl w dogs
That's one incredibly well-adjusted, compliant and shaggy doggo. Hopefully he enjoys his new life and family plus thanks for making him look and feel so much better!
The poor thing. He clearly doesn't really understand the purpose and he's not happy about it, but he is still trusting enough to let Vanessa proceed without getting aggressive. And I must say, he looks a lot better with his fur trimmed so very short.
The adopting family would not even recognize him. I have a standard poodle and they are amazing smart and loving animals. so happy for cooper, and a loving family situation.
He looks like a leggy little colt! And he’s almost as tall as one too! His temperament is an absolute diamond, too. He’s going to make someone super happy some day.
Thank you so much for doing this. When my girl, Charlotte, who is a cocker spaniel, was rescued, she was so matted she had to be sedated for her clip. I never understand why lazy people get dogs with high maintenance coats. What you do for rescue dogs is wonderful.
Don’t think all dog owners are lazy. Difficult times may befall the owners or an elderly owner no longer could care for their beloved pet. Sometimes we have to have a little empathy.
@@basstrammel1322 You’re not taking in the whole picture. Let’s think of the owner and not just the animal. You say you empathize yet you throw in the word but.
@@mjef3695 I know how hard depression can be, but it’s not fair to get an animal and not care for it. If you know you’re getting depressed, put it up for adoption or ask someone to temporarily care for it. Animals can be so good to keep you happy but it’s not fair to force them to be neglected. Sometimes you have to make a hard decision because at the end of the day, you are responsible for that animal, not matter what your mental state is, and you have a responsibility to care for it, if you can’t because of mental health (I get it, I’ve been through it) then you need to find it a better home. It’s an awful thing to do but it’s not fair for the animal.
@@neckbackcripplinganxietyattack Not sure what you have had to struggle with but their are multiple psychiatric issues. I don’t believe in an animal suffering but I won’t judge an owner. It does anger me if neglect is intentional.
Cooper is gorgeous and I’m so glad he has a forever home. Thank you for the love and dedication you give to these dogs to help them get a better, forever home.
Your videos always feel like hanging out with a friend. So authentic, down to earth, bloody funny, & deeply compassionate. Wishing Cooper & his forever home every happiness- you can tell he’s going to love his family like no other. Thank you for what you do Vanessa
He seems like the best Christmas gift. I won’t lie towards the end of the video I started tearing up thinking about how sweet he was being and the fact that he was neglected to the point where his coat was like that. Poor boy. I’m so happy he has a forever home now.
My parents recently adopted a dog who looks a lot like Cooper, and unfortunately also had a ton of matted hair all over. He's since been groomed and is much happier, and thanks to your channel I've been able to educate my folks a bit on how to avoid mats in the future!
I love that you always stop and allow the dogs to smell and inspect your tools before staring ❤️ It just really exemplifies how much you know and understand dogs. I love your videos!
What a sweetie! It's heartbreaking to think anyone could let a dog get into that condition. You can tell that by the time you were using the 10 blade he knew it was going to be OK and make him feel better. What a stunning transformation!
