Imagine being a former Black Mesa researcher and finding out that your rival company, Aperture Science, had not only beaten you to developing portal technology, teleportation, a gravity gun, and AI, but they also did so decades before you in secret, lol.
Fun fact: a couple years back, Gabe Newell teamed up with Rocket Lab to launch a real life Gnome Chompski into space as part of a charity event. To help promote this event, the HL2 trilogy as well as Half Life Alyx were updated to include an automatic achievement called "Gnome Alone," indicating that the rocket launch was a success. There was also going to be a second achievement called "Manufacturing Ascent" to go along with a second rocket launch, but that never got added due to said launch being cancelled. The only remnant of that achievement is the last bit of text on Gnome Alone.
@@yeetmahhotpockett1723yes but again like you said First SHOOTER We arent talking about the other genres were talking about the shooter genre Most shooters were arcade style shooters that pushed aside the story in favor of the violence Oh yeah and most of them just looked like a reskinned Wolfenstein 3D
50:15 not only did they encourage the team to make black mesa and let them put it on steam, but Valve also hired the entire team after they saw how high quality it was... as for Xen, the team behind black mesa said that everything before Xen was Valves game that they had just remade, but the Xen levels were THEIR game and it really feels like it
Fun Fact! The reason why Blue Shift doesn’t add new stuff to the base game and is so short is that it was originally made for the unreleased Dreamcast port of Half-Life as an extra side story exclusive to that version that recycled assets from the base game in order to reduce the time necessary to develop it. When that port went unreleased it was quickly brought to pc. Interestingly, a group of fans of the Black Mesa remake are developing a mod about it that is available to play on Steam. Fun fact 2: Half Life Source was made as a bonus for the original pc release of Half-Life 2
Woah the length of FoeKoe's videos have increased by a massive amount, and especially impressive how much quality and love are put into his videos, keep up the good work man
My favourite joke, by far, is "Reactor Explosion Timer destroyed. Reactor Explosion Uncertainty Emergency Preemption Protocol initiated: This facility will self destruct in two minutes."
This was basically me last year lol. Love TF2 and L4D2 but I’ve heard good things about Valve’s other titles and know they’ve had a big impact to many. Heck, when I played the HL games I recognized so many sound effects, music, and other things from other media. It certainly hit home.
I love how many people had such different experiences with Valve games, but all of them are usually positive. Me, personally, had the weird route of playing Portal 2, L4D to L4D2
An hour plus video of two of the best franchises from valve, let alone the world, made by the man himself Fokoe? This truly has blessed my day, thank you funny man Foekoe!
@@Luka2000_ glad to hear that. Personally, I'm still deciding what I want to do with my life. Very confusing times, but still excited to see what the future holds. Peace
portal and portal 2 is a fantastic introduction to people who aren't used to mouse and keyboard gameplay, yet alone in a first person perspective. No shooting or combat difficulty involved, just moving around and solving puzzles, sometimes timed ones. Plus they are just awesome games regardless of how long you've played games
Don’t know if you’re sticking to these hour long “completion” videos from now on, but I’m all for it if this is how your sticking to making videos. This and the last video have both been such a treat to watch and I hope to see more like them.
I can't believe that everhood sponsored this amazing stuff. Love this video not a hardcore valve fan but it was enjoyable and the quality is very high.
Damn, he even did the flash games and rtx remasters. He's really gone serious with this one. Edit: Also, that ain't just any old revolver, that's a freaking 44 magnum!
My first source game was half-life 2 and it was absolutely AMAZING, keep in mind I had never played the game before, and I played it for the first time 3 years ago, game is phenomenal, truly a masterpiece.
The displacer gun in opposing force is actually a pretty good weapon, it can one shot literally any enemy and it's pretty handy in the tunnel fight against the vortigores...
Fun fact: When Half-Life Source came out, it was actually identical to the original game. Just one problem: The Source engine has updates. Updates that conflict with the game. They were never patched, I imagine they COULD NEVER be patched. So they left it to die. Even Valve themselves said they made a mistake with it.
This is an annual tradition for me-though with the mainline entries and with some of the best mod campaigns-and now there’s this video and Shuckmeister is gonna make a video about the Resonance Cascade. My tism goin crazy rn fr
58:40 THIS WHOLE VIDEO WAS WORTH IT FOR THE CLIP RIGHT THERE LMAO In all seriousness, half life and foekoe (and long ass youtube videos) ? My two fav things??? Yes please!
I remember leaving a comment on the previous video about how I think he should rank these games based on how fun they are because I thought it mattered more than difficulty, I don't know if Foekoe saw my comment, but it's cool to see it be done. Because I really do think it's important to show that games like Animal Crossing are just as fun as games like Elden ring despite how much easier or harder one is than the other.
Hello gordon! Look gordon ropes we can use them to get across pits! Look gordon ropes we ca- HELP ME GORDON! Look gordon a revolving door HELP ME GORDON! LOOK GORDON WE MADE IT TO THE SURFACE!!! Look Gordon! We made it back to black mesa! And now you learn to trust Dr. Coomer… More soon cuz i am lazy -Dr. Coomer
This is the best video I have seen not just from RU-vid, but on the internet. It is just amazing in every way, It's hilarious, it's calming, and it's perfect. Thank you Foekeo.
As a giant valve fan this is awesome to see. I’ve played every game several times. Half life 2 and portal 2 are (some) my favorite games! They are so damn creative with great ideas in it, I wish we could see more games like this nowadays. Portals humor and half life 2’s (is that how you would spell that?) serious tone are so greatly made. They have always been amazing man. Edit : the lemon part in portal 2 is fucking depressing. Seeing Glados slightly start to remember who she really is. At the end of the game during the “Caroline deleted” scene gave me fucking chills. When I first played I was like “another boss fight!?” But no, she just lets you go while she shows you how she doesn’t want to change. She just says “goodbye Caroline” in the most fucking horrific voice. And you just got into an elevator. Also when you remember that this game takes place in the half life universe. Which means that if the xen were never defeated, chances are Chell dies after being released. Pretty fucking horrifying.
You haven’t even scratched the portal fan games, there’s tons with just as much gameplay as portal. I hope you make another video about them, portal reloaded, apature tag, and portal story’s Mel
Dude that Humming sound when you showed Half-life Episodes, had me remember hovering over the Orange Box disk for the PS3 hearing that song and feel satisfied
This is the first time I’ve watched a video, noticed a sponsor and I wasn’t angry. Ever hood is great and the only thing that annoys me is the fact that foekoe didn’t talk more about it.
Idk abt Valve, but the community definitely does, for good reason. I haven't seen it put on the same level as Black Mesa in any collective reviews I've watched so far, which is a shame. The Portal modding scene doesn't get nearly enough credit outside of the dedicated fan community.
I remember playing the Flash version of Portal thinking, “wow, someone should have thought of this sooner.” I never actually played the fps version or even heard of it for like 6 more years
justice for portal stories mel! it's nowhere near as popular as a fangame like black mesa, but it's one of if not the most polished and authentic feeling portal fangame out there
Awseome video, love these long form video. I've also started achivement hunting and only beat Portal 2 today by chance. Good job on doing all those games
Fun fact TF2 also took place in the Half Life and Portal universe because on the description for the Ap-Sap, it says that Mann Co bought it from a nice lady in a abandoned science facility. The zapper in question is sentient.
I actually bought the most of the half life series (minus decay, of course, and also Alyx because 1000 dollars for a headset is expensive as hell to play one game) on steam during the Christmas sale that steam was having last year. It was 2 dollars USD. I'm not joking. It was 2 dollars for most of the half-life series to be in my steam library. Before that point, I only had half life 2 (which i bought off steam at full price a few days after i got my computer) and have played L4D, L4D2, TF2, and Portal 2, so I was mostly a newcomer to the Half-Life series. And I have to admit, getting to play these games made me a die-hard fan. Not to mention that these games (outside of a few stinkers, looking at you, half-life source) were REALLY fun to play. So thank you Steam for gracing me with a 2 dollar bundle for most of the half-life games a day or 2 after Christmas.
3:12 Funnily enough, you aren't softlocked here. If you're fast enough, you can back out of the pipe before it falls, jump down so you're standing on the ceiling of the office, and break through using the crowbar, taking no damage in the process.
30:16 when i played portal i thought to myself: i forgot that camera i'll come back to it when i finish the game.... NOW I HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME THE THIRD TIME
Man, nobody ever talks about LEGO Dimensions. Which like, I get was done here for time constraints, but it’s still one of the best Portal-related products outside of the original duology, so it kind of sucks that it rarely gets the praise it deserves in that regard.
