I am 190 I always been 145 my whole life at one point lower than that I've gained over 50 lbs in the last 4 years and now that I am engaged I am wanting more to be healthy again. ru-vid.comUgkx5VQ5nUzHu6i0O5_u7ipyLnCz0lbsSvr0 I am not fat but I am thick and have muscle. I am very close to how you were but a lil smaller but I am so sick people making comments to me like I'm huge or like you said having shorts that used to be so cute on me and now I can't even find a pair to fit me. I used to love shopping now I don't even want to go to the store and if I do I pick the biggest size don't even try it on and deal with it. I went from size 5 to size idk because I don't even want to know the real number. I hate looking at pics of myself now or me before. thank you for your video it's time to make a change.

That's what really helped me go to the gym I'm doing my workouts and I'm trying everyday so if someone judges me that's on them why should I feel bad for going to a gym
@MelissaMaggot666
@MelissaMaggot666 4 года назад
As an ex-obese person, I can definitely say that any judgement I felt at the gym was 100% in my head. The first day I had a panic attack and ended up crying in the locker room. When I eventually snapped out of it I approached a PT, explained the situation and she gladly helped me through my first day at the gym free of charge. A couple of guys I had seen around town noticed I was struggling to adjust and adopted me into their little gym group. It's important to emphasise that not everyone judges you, and those who do don't matter. Never let rumours about what an experience will be like stop you from pursuing a healthier lifestyle.

Honestly? No one judges you for going to the gym. If anything, people with a couple of pounds extra belong in the gym and everyone who notices you (if they notice you at all) are secretly cheering you on but don't wanna make it awkward. I'm way more judgmental toward the beefcake that doesn't put the weights back or refuses to wipe down his seat after he is done or hogs 3 machines at the same time.
@itsjustmyopinionbut1671
@itsjustmyopinionbut1671 4 года назад
Okay we should all be real... people so judge you. They judge you everywhere though and you know why that matters? It doesn’t ... at all! Well, it can be a bit gratifying to see others get so uncomfortable simply because you’re doing you and living your best life. Don’t worry about anyone’s opinion but yours. I have to build myself up to get into the gym every single time I take a break and it’s because I’ve gained weight since I was last really fit and feel like ppl will judge me for it. It wasn’t until I realized how much I was missing out on for fear of other ppls useless opinions that I was able to put that fear behind me, although I still work at it every time I enter the gym, and it gets easier every time !

@@ideljenny EXACTLY! The nerveeees when people don't put weights back or they leave their nasty sweat on the seat... And everytime I see someone with extra kilos I think that they are doing a good thing for their body. ANYONE that go to the gym is doing something good for their health! I'd say that 95 % of people at the gym don't care about others (in term of judgement)

There was an obese person in our gym and I get the sense that she was uneasy and was feeling like she was being judged so everyone in the gym just minded their own business, strike a casual conversation once in a while and just let her do her thing with her trainer. Eventually she started losing weight and was more confident, she also started greeting everyone. So now she's working out with other people. All that judgement she thought we were giving her was just all in her head. She was very inspiring for everyone. Sorry for bad English just wanted to share.

Body positivity isn't an excuse to be self destructive. It's being able to love your and other people's body types no matter what, because everyone's different and no matter how hard you work, it's difficult to lose or gain weight sometimes. Body positivity does not mean "I have diabetes and heart problems because of my bad habits but I'm not changing it because I love myself and don't care if my body puts me into an early grave." Body positivity should be reserved for people who are actually trying to better themselves but having a hard time, or just trying in general. Not for people who choose to be awful go themselves and decide to use body positivity as an excuse to continue killing themselves.

@@Katerina-xf3gj "Body positivity should be reserved for people who are actually trying to better themselves"... No, feeling good about your body is for everyone with a body. If someone is fat, they shouldn't have to provide an excuse for why they're fat, or try to convince you they are trying to change to earn your respect as a human being. If you're not someone's doctor, you don't get to decide what's "awful for them" or "good for them", so stay out of it and just treat them like a person...and my previous remark is pointing out that calling someone you don't know on the internet "lazy" isn't humane. It's just bullying.

Idk why people always assume people who are body positive can not watch what they eat or workout. I thought the whole point of the body positive movement is to love your body through everything. @yumyum9902 5 лет назад
yea like I get the fact that everyone should be body positive but like to think of it, shouldnt everyone atleast try to maintain their bmi on a healthy scale not coz of like what other people say but like health wise, coz I myself was overweight and I had so many health issues and overall it isnt healthy, i tried really hard to get healthier and im still doing. I am not saying that people who are overweight/skinny should hate themselves, they should love their body while trying to get more healthier. Ignoring the fact that they arent healthy and continuing living the same way will only make them more unhealthy and its fine for young ppl but when you actually get old it gets harder and no one wants to spend their old age suffering.

I thought this, I felt so sad when she said she was receiving negative messages via Instagram about her choices on eating, body positivity is about appreciating all the wonderful things our bodies can do without comparing it to someone else’s journey. Someone’s food choices does not have to be linked to a weight loss regime and it’s cruel for people to bring her up on this, that’s not showing love
@deadlyfemme
@deadlyfemme 5 лет назад
I was so sad and upset to hear how people were treating her. I'm plus size, work out almost every day. While the scale is going down, it isnt about being unhappy or punishing my body, but celebrating what my body is capable of and loving it by giving it the food that makes it and myself feel good. It's sad that fitness and nutrition are predominantly seen in the community as something negative when they can absolutely be a part of someone's self love ritual.

You are allowed to love who you are but work to improve yourself too. Body positive doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to make yourself better; it just means that regardless of what stage your body or health journey is at, you accept that’s who you are and you find happiness/confidence in it. Comments that insinuate improvement is anti positive are single minded and wrong. Be healthy, try for you, keep working if it’s your choice! Good people will support you.

So glad you worked with someone who's not focused on losing weight. I struggle with eating disorders and try to stay body positive so this was great to see. While I love the Extreme Body Makeover series, sometimes in the past it does seem very numbers-focused, which is just perpetuating the idea that to being "fit" or "in shape" makes you better (since it is a makeover). So it's nice to see someone doing this for their mental well-being, not the scale.

@EliteXtasy

They don't understand that if you really love your body, you'd treat your body well. That involves exercising, filling it with nutritious food, and eating just enough. For overweight people, that inevitably results in a weight/fat loss and slimming down. That's just a part of good health.
@dinkyboss
@dinkyboss 5 лет назад
Maira Luna-Flores that part annoyed me too. Like loving yourself means making the choices that will ultimately lead to a long and healthy live. At my highest weight I was pushing 190 which might not sound terribly big but I’m only 5’3” and already was beginning to have knee problems at 23. That was enough motivation to lose weight and now I’m around 150. I loved myself the whole way too.
@caterpillardiary
@caterpillardiary 5 лет назад
There are hormones and brain chemicals that regulate hunger, satiety, and food motivation. For overweight and obese people the receptors and triggers for these do not function normally. So actually it is an uphill battle for some people to lose weight and be in a normal range. It’s also not a sign of how little someone loves themselves if those physiological mechanisms are out of whack and an individual overeats as a result. The correlation between self worth and food choice is not a real thing. Loving yourself doesn’t mean eating healthy. The patterning to eat healthy is a trained skill and is completely unrelated to self worth. That’s really the heart of body positivity too. And because society links value to thinness it makes sense that the community was triggered by dieting-like behavior. Not saying it’s right it’s just understandable. But seriously the belief that loving yourself means eating a certain way and working out is only enforcing the idea that overweight/obese people are not of value, because you’re saying to become overweight a person is not doing a good enough job at valuing themselves, therefore they are lacking and not embodying what society thinks is required of a person.

I think it's because working out and trying to be healthy can have a really negative connotation for a lot of bigger people because it usually results from pressure to be skinny or to 'look' different. It carries the baggage of fad dieting and possibly even starvation or disordered eating because it usually never comes from a healthy, self-loving place. What's amazing about what Jazz is doing is that she is showing that working out and being healthy CAN and SHOULD be healthy and SHOULD come from a place of self-love and self-acceptance. That's the point of body-positivity, I feel. To pursue fitness and health not because you hate your body but because you love it at every step of the process.

At the same time, I think she needs to either spend more time with a counselor or a nutritionist to discuss her relationship with food and her avoidance of addressing "numbers" when it comes to her weight. As she gets older she is going to develop issues that are inherent with carrying that much extra weight on her body. Thank you both so much! Jazzmyne, you are an inspiration, you absolute QUEEN!! I love seeing you in videos! I really needed this message!!! I had lunch with extended family recently and one of them made this comment that just crushed my soul. I've been building up my body positivity and thought I'd reached a point where I was loving myself, but that one cruel comment shattered that confidence. I go for long walks and do planks and yoga at home, but I've been wanting to start running again and adding going to the gym as part of my self-care routine. A lot of what you said resonated with me. I used to be a runner, but knee problems made me stop. Going to the gym gives me anxiety now because I'm not pushing myself as much as I used to so I feel lazy and developed a complex to the point that a friend literally had to walk with me into the gym as morale support. I felt pathetic and judged and I hated it. I really dislike talking to this family member because they just have no brain-to-mouth filter or empathy. I hate that what they say gets to me, and hate that despite my awareness and efforts I'm still not good enough. Not good enough to get their approval. Not good enough to stop caring about what they say. It's very frustrating. And exhausting.

@@victoriahale5254 Well yes. But it will also come around to bite them in the ass and then suddenly life is a lot harder than it needs to be when you're coughing up a lung or when your family won't talk to you because you are just never sober. I work in elderly care and the quality of life is so much better if you did not overindulge when young. There is a reason why you don't see many elderly obese people. Don't mistake this comment as some kind of "you should hate yourself when you're overweight" comment because it obviously isn't. Hating yourself is just as likely to ruin your quality of life as smoking, drinking and overheating will. Its counterproductive. Instead, love yourself enough that working on your body and your mind are worthy goals because you, the person, is worth the effort it takes.

This was beautiful.
