I started to straighten my hair at a really young age 'cause I didn't know how to take care of it and all my friends had straight hair. It has been 5 years that I've embraced my natural hair and I was so pleasantly surprise by how beautiful my hair is now 💕

Same!❤️ my mom and gran always said that girls look better with straight hair, so I straightened it my entire childhood. And I’m talking EVERYDAY! Now, I haven’t touched my hair with any heat for over 3 years and I’ve just learnt the curly girl method and I’m loving it 😍😍

When my hair was straight (chemical or heat) it lacked a lot of volume. Once I started wearing my hair curly (straight once every 12-16 weeks), it now has tons of volume. I shampoo (gentle sulfate or a non-sulfate) and deep condition my hair every week and it's in the best condition ever! I also apply a leave in every day even if its just a light mist so my hair isn't weighed down. Frizz is your hair's way of saying that it's too dry and it's swelling up to grab any moisture in the air from humidity. If you live in a desert area, there would be less frizz because there is very little humidity and moisture in the air.

your hair is probably wavy! try mousse and the curly girl method. i do the “squish to condish” technique (you can do it upside down or upright) and scrunch in the mousse. let it dry completely and then scrunch/fluff to break the cast. boom! waves

@@selinasesshy yeah exactly. Heat and chemical damage can cause thinness at the ends but not sparseness at the root like that. I would imagine this is a hormonal issue.

I’ve been straightening and putting a lot of heat my hair/ doing braids since I was really young. And over quarantine I started wearing my hair natural. I’m really happy and I love my curls so much. I’m still learning and I do have damage but it’s going well so far

Rebecca Ard for me personally I just did a big chop twice and my hair got super curly. Idk about a curly cut I feel like those are expensive. But hey she was happy and that’s all that matters! She’s embracing something that many of us curly heads have been ashamed of because of society.

i would love this stylist to make a video on how to treat you hair on a daily basis: how often do you have to wash it in the week, when do you have to comb your hair and how often? what hairstyle can you do if you don’t want to wear them without a scrunchie (open), just things to make sure you are treating your hair well and healthy

As someone who struggles with a looser curl pattern the truth is that most of the people in media that have been shown had their curls styled with a curling wand. Most product are either made for straight hair or for tighter curl patterns. So they are either too thick or too drying.

Lauren Ashley - My issue with having a looser curl pattern has nothing to with being social acceptance, it’s that because it’s so loose it’s not quite curly enough at the root to middle yet super curly at the back of my head so it’s mismatch mess. On top of that my hair is thinner so most curl products are either too heavy or they give my hair that stringy look. I’ve tried for years to find a routine that works and something that makes me like how it looks but it’s just always been easier for me to straighten it 🤷🏻‍♀️

As someone with 3a hair, I've only JUST recently started to embrace my hair fully. I've always loved my curls, but I grew up thinking that the only way to make my hair manageable/tame/neat was by straightening it. Learning proper ways to take care of my hair (through RU-vid) and from seeing more representation has helped a lot, but I still continued to use heat every now and then. Maybe other wavy/curly girls can relate that there is always a lingering feeling that people will find you more attractive/ professional when your curl is looser/ your hair is straight. I've completely stopped using heat styling now and that's only been because of quarantine!! Hope I could've offered some perspective, I'm so glad to see more women embracing their curls

It kinda looks like the model has some form of traction alopecia very mild. It may have come from the color over the years. Some follicles may just be very weak. Also her hair may be heat damage Feom the straightening. Overall the stylist did good for what it’s worth

zoot boot agree and alopecia also comes in many forms. It will literally kill the hair at the root. But hey we never know because it’s not like she will tell us lol I hope it fills back in for her once she leave the heat alone. Most high medications can take hair out like that as well.....side note I’ve been in my mothers salon way too long working with her. I’m starting to sound like her🤦🏾‍♀️

she clearly hair fall you can see at the roots, she should check her thyroid hormones. If she has everything check up with a doctor there are some topic drugs that work. I know that sometimes that's a cause of stuggle for a lot of women but in this case there are some options thankfully.

@@MT-zm1yb not typically. a thyroid condition typically happens because the thyroid attacks itself. i have hashimotos, a type of thyroid disease, and the only way to handle it is with medication. it also requires a lot of upkeep, i have to take medication daily and go in to get my hormones checked every 3-6 months. but it is so worth it. my hair, my skin, my body, the way that i feel, it is all so much better than a few years ago. i first found out i had a thyroid condition because i lost about 20% of my body weight in 3 months (i was already naturally skinny around 60 lbs at 12 years old), so we got it checked and yep, my hormones were out of balance. another option is just to remove the thyroid altogether, but you still have to supplement hormones even then i believe. but it's an internal condition and you can't naturally fix it (it's genetic basically)
