Cracking Steve, We had a brown P6 (N plate) 2.2L in the 70's. My mum loved the smooth engine. Clever fireplace style dashboard so the instruments could be easily swapped over for LHD models at lower cost. Still remember the solid "clump" noise of the door. Also I just bought a 1976 TR7 FHC and I love that. Full rebuild just started so gratfeul for your Triumph content.
That's fabulous Steve, so glad you've found something you will enjoy using every day. What you say about the engineering and the quality of Rovers is spot on. I've just brought a second V8 SD1 so I know exactly how you feel!
You got that right, the P6 was well ahead of its time, it's a real marvel of a car, and it's a itch I've wanted to scratch owning one for many years now. I've no regrets, just happiness for having it 👍
Well done Steve my mate had 3.5 the same colour as yours in the late 1970,s as his first car and I had a Yellow mk 1 Ford Escort 1300. Kev from Devon.Have you ever driven a manual coty Fto?
Just subscribed to your channel Steve congratulations on your purchase awesome motor the p6 way ahead of its time when launched looking forward to seeing more updates on her 👍
Loved this video 🥰 . Your P6 is great. Can't wait to see the improvements. That Mercedes was 😴 . I had a 1998 C180 for a bit. Lovely car. But it cost so much with tax.... insurance.... mot..... fuel! I thought I don't need this and went back to dailying my P6. Cheap motoring! 😁
I always liked my Mercedes, but it was never a true expression of myself. It was reliable, dependable, modern and all the other things. However the P6 just puts a smile on my face, and I just don't get that with any modern car. You've got to have a car that makes you happy and my P6 does this well 👍
Well l wasn't expecting that ! Hope your man really does know his onions , the base units are notorious for rust . A quick check is to lift out the rear seat bases , pull out the sound deadening and have a look . The sills are fixed with self tappers and you need to check the inner sills . The rev' counter and clock were standard on the 2000 TC . Did you know that the P6 was "cribbed off " the Citroen DS . Rover bought one , took it to their factory , stripped it to it's bare bones and used a lot of the technology to create the P6.Particularly the base unit and bolt on panels including the roof . The gearbox is also a known weakness . I think yours is Zircon Blue and a Devon car. Would it be rude to ask how much ? And ....yes ! I had one in the day ! Sold it to my brother for £300 ! Unfortunately , he only had it for 12 months and then scrapped it . It failed it's mot on ......guess ! 🤣🤣🤣 Well , hope you have many years of happy ,motoring !
I didn't know that, every day is a school day and all that. But yes the guy who's checked it out for me did a good job, I've gone over the car myself, and cannot believe how good it 👍
@@SteveDentonClassics That's great Steve. I trained on these and if they had an impact on the front they were not repairable so we had to replace the complete front from the bulkhead forward . It was an extremely long and exhausting job . It took over 2 days to take off the assembly and after you finally had the new assembly ready to weld it was 3 hours + of non stop spot welding . Those spot welders were 30 lbs + dead weight !!! In the early 1980's a 3500 came into my shop for a repaint . It was 6 years old . It was so badly corroded l got my local scrap man to bring round a base unit from a '66 and grafted a lot of sheet metal from that to the '74 car ! Cheers !
Absolutely! You have to do whatever makes you happen, sod being like everyone else. Happiness is all that matters, and every time I look at my P6, it makes me smile 👍
They don't make them like that anymore.....however advanced modern cars are, something has been lost and/or forgotten. My 2nd car was a Rover PG 3.5 and for 35 years I've regretted selling it!
No spare wheel on the boot lid?! That's my memory of these cars as a kid in the 70's. I always thought it was a radical design compared to the P5 before it. Hope you have many years of happy motoring 👍
