In today's video, I'm opening up about a topic that almost broke me; getting fired from a job for the first time. 🙁
Getting fired was one of the toughest experiences in my career journey, and I want to share my own story and the lessons I've learned. I've been there, and I know the feelings of disappointment, self-doubt, and uncertainty that can come with it.
In this video, I'll discuss the circumstances surrounding my termination, the emotions I went through, and how I coped with this unexpected change. But more importantly, I'll share how I turned this setback into a lesson learned about what I really wanted to do.
Getting fired is not the end; it's a chance to reevaluate, learn, and refocus.
Please remember to like, subscribe, and share this video with anyone who might find it helpful. Thank you so much again for the support on the last video! It' And, as always, I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.

Thank you so much for sharing! I’ve shared your story. It’s aggravating to be at the “mercy” of others when it comes to your livelihood. Stay encouraged, it gets better. You’re growing and helping others through sharing your journey. I’m over experienced and it’s always a “catch”. I’m too experienced, why am I applying here, when I made more money than the role I was applying for? Subsequently saying that they wouldn’t hire me due to the risk of me leaving for a higher paid position. It’s a catch 22. I wish you so much luck on your journey!

The first job that I had, I wanted to quit very badly because patients were treating me like shit, but I was thinking of how rude that could be to quit after 3 months of training, considering the time and money that they invested. Then, they fired me because I couldn’t do a task that was literally only 5% of my total responsibilities, and I was pretty good with other tasks. That was the time that I realized I should only care about myself in the Western world.

Link with a temp agency they get paid when you get hired and they will fight for the pay you want 4. Take none of it personal leave a job if its not for you always have a plan!! 5. This comment should be pinned. I find that people don’t understand how important #1 is. Your coworkers are NOT your friends, and the company is only “loyal” to you as long as they are able to use you. If you and your “friend” are up for the same promotion, that “friend” can use your personal information to sabotage you. It doesn’t matter if you dedicate all your time to the company and you exceed your deliverables - if the company needs to cut, they’ll let you go.

Companies used to invest in training for their employees. Now they expect you to hit the ground running. I was told for a position there would be training. I had experience in the field( in the job description) however I had not previously worked with the specific software the company utilized. I made that point clear in the interview process. The person who was “training” me had barely anytime to do so. She had to answer phones, put out fires and do her own work. Constant interruptions stressed the both of us out. I think I figured it out a long time ago, but I still got emotionally affected by stress and bad feedback in the workplace. It's that most jobs are in fact bullshit, especially those that pertain to moving around large sums of money which create jobs for intermediaries, vendors and so on. The original purpose and vision of a company gets derailed fast in the name of profits and keeping the gravy train rolling, most corporations or workplaces wouldn't exist otherwise. Most jobs are meant to keep people off the streets and not organize in tighter communities to get more leverege against government, lawmakers... You really can't do much about a group of people who think alike, except disband them or prevent them from forming in the first place systemically and with slimy psychological tactics.

I saw the writing on the wall for months and all the stupid terminations that were happening since January so I braced myself early. I went from giving 110% overworking myself and losing weight each week from stress to realizing what was happening to me physically and emotionally and putting my health first by doing what I was told and not going overboard. The moment I put my health first and not killing myself over a job was when they got rid of me and I have no regrets. Yeah I’m nervous about working again because of that experience.

This is how most of my jobs have gone, except I quit when I couldn’t take it no more. It made no sense for me to go above and beyond when no one else did. The lesson is to set boundaries and enforce them. It’s ok to go above and beyond every once in a while like agreeing to cover a shift, staying a little later, etc, but don’t offer to do these things, and never do them if it’s known that your work place will take advantage of you if you agree to do more once. I lost my job as a manager for a warehouse two months ago due to budget cuts. My manager who had to break the news was avoiding me and my building as much as possible because he couldn't handle seeing me and knowing what was going to happen. It wasn't his idea, it came from corporate and he reassured me over and it ver that it wasn't due to my performance at all but because I was the manager with the least amount of tenure. I went through the same ideations... still kind of going through them. Its amazing that I came across your videos at this point in my life and I get to hear from someone in the same headspace as me.❤️

This is very similar to my situation. I thought I found my dream job, but after 3 months I started to question if I really wanted to be there in that role. Got put on a PIP, so I tried to stay on top of everything but 28 days later they fired me with no explanation. My red flag was the manager requesting a meeting after we hand spoke all day, & yup soon as I saw her boss + his boss I knew. It’s frustrating but thank you for sharing your methods for dealing with this. I agree the biggest takeaway is if it doesn’t feel right, it’s not.

How on Earth did they make a random person a project manager, managing people who make 6 figure salaries? You say you were "missing a lot of little details". This tells me the approach was cursed from the start. There are very few "little details" to consider when you're managing a team correctly. A proper structuring of work, proper scheduling, good meetings and good organization leaves most of the little details to the individuals working under your supervision. These are highly skilled white-collar workers, not peons who need you to crack the whip or tell them when to stop for a sandwich.

I recommend to read PMBOK by PMI for methodology of project management because based on my professional experience I consider it the best abstraction. 4:04 Once you are confident with the product and the way it is delivered you will know how to lead people. Also upon on-boarding your manager should give you a training about your organization as well as about (PMBOK terminology) Enterprise Environmental Factors and Organizational Process Assets (all documents used in previous projects).

I wouldn’t pay the company to train me unless they had trainers with actual teaching qualifications. So many people who train others on the job and poor trainers. I have experienced that companies want things done “their way”, which college cannot teach you, but they expect you to know “their way” through osmosis and telepathy. This is especially true for companies with low management turn over, because those managers forget (or don’t realise) the same job is not the same work somewhere else.
@Lalamande26
@Lalamande26 11 месяцев назад
Project management is something you cannot improvise though and it is something you need to have proper training and interest for or you quickly become an issue for the company and can create stress for people in the project team. You need to have attention to details, organizational skills, leadership and being able to nurture creativity and transparency. You are suppose to help people work with reducing information asymetry, you need to know methodologies, tools etc at no point you said you loved the job, you were interested by having a job and safety. They should not have hired you without offering mentoring and training options but you cannot just choose your team as a first joiner and you need to show passion for your role. You should have ask for training and mentoring not changing team maybe instead of telling the team was not a fit. Just my 2 cents. Hope you find your path and if it is PM then learn, train and dont’t give up, if it is video/content producer than all the best ❤

This came up in my recommendation after recently being fired. I'm a very new RVT (vet tech/vet nurse) and still have skills to work on. My employer told me they weren't good at training and they delivered on that. After only 7 weeks they fired me for not being a good fit. They also said I wasn't learning quick enough. It sucks they didn't give me a proper chance or train me adequately because I know I could be really good. I wouldn't be so upset if it weren't for the fact that there are no jobs right now and it doesn't help that I'm new and my resume isn't stacked...

I live in London and got fired just a week before my three month probation in 2018. I wasn't the best employee but I certainly wasn't the worst but my line manager didn't like me so when it was time to get rid of people I was first in line in her team. It was a brutal experience. I went to the office in the morning as normal and sat down. Another manager told me to grab all my things from my desk and come to one of the meeting rooms. My line manager emerged and said 'I wasn't meeting targets' and I was being fired effective immediate. I left in a daze! A colleague called me later on and told me the company (a start-up) was losing money and managers were asked to get rid of people.

Ugh sorry this happened! A PIP is protection for the company not really for the employee. Any time you get a PIP take that as a sign to look for a new job. Especially if it's a 30 day PIP. I have never seen anyone "recover" from a PIP. Also your manager LYING about your progress is TYPICAL unfortunately. Anyways I know getting fired is very jarring , but you will recover. It sounds like you've done the reflection and you ignored your intuition. Some jobs really are just a bad fit. You will do better next time for sure! You also need to LIE about being fired. This times infinity. A PIP is a CYA from corporate to protect themselves from a wrongful termination lawsuit, ESPECIALLY if you fall under a protected class (race, age, religion, disabled, woman, LGBT+). This is corporate’s way of saying, “See? This person wasn’t doing well, and we tried to give them a chance, but they still didn’t measure up…”

A member of my family was unfairly fired because the company had to cut costs really fast (I guess some would call that being laid off - they did get a severance package and headhunter services), I know the lying part is so real and true. You’ve got to explain the exit and subsequent gap in your resume somehow. If you don’t say it was a contract job or that you were laid off, say you had to leave to care for an ill family member who ultimately died. Due to liability concerns, most former employers will not say you were fired if the new employer calls for a reference.

@alinewandji8017 if she was there for a few months, then yes, leave it off her resume, but she was there for 8 or 9 months . She's worse off trying to explain the gap in employment. She will be fine on references. That is an outdated practice and most companies just confirm dates of employment. I change jobs often and haven't been asked for references in years. After you gain many years of experience, it is non-issue.

I had a very similar experience the year after I graduated from my university. I took a job that wasn’t right for me because honestly I didn’t know what I even wanted to do and just wanted so badly to leave my retail job, I made a lot of small mistakes, learned I might have ADHD, and got fired. Being fired is so traumatizing, my self esteem (which was already kind of below average) took a nose dive. I refused to apply to jobs for over a year because I was terrified of never being good enough and getting fired again or being asked why I left my last job, etc. I wish I would have just quit, but I had a never give up mentality back then lol. On the bright side, I went back to school for a career path that is exciting and creative, found a passion with creating art, met professors who believe in me, and while I’m now in post grad limbo again, I’m much more optimistic about my future prospects. Wish everyone who relates to this struggle the best of luck and future happiness ❤️

A friend of mine did something similar. He had a very incompetent manager, and this manager decided to put him on a PIP. Luckily for him, he was disabled and older (over 50), so he pulled “the lawyer card” - he told the company that he’s not signing it without a labor attorney reviewing it, and he’s been documenting the incompetent manager’s inconsistent directions that set him up for failure, so he’s also going to talk to the labor attorney about it. He also mentioned that he felt he was targeted because he was an older, disabled worker. That scared the 💩 out of them, so they did a deal where they laid him off and gave him a 6-month severance pay PLUS paid for his COBRA for 6 months.

At the same time, I am glad to no longer be with that company. Only after being fired did I realize how stressed I was. I would literally come home many days and sleep from 7 PM - 7 AM just from being burnt out. It wasn't even the work itself that was so stressful. It was the people and feeling like I constantly had to watch my back.

Dude that sounds just like my experience. At the time I was living with my mom and sisters. They told me I would come home and go to sleep.

I’ve worked in Corporate America my entire career (over 30 years) for various Fortune 500 corporations and I have only seen one person survive a performance plan. You should start looking for another job if it looks like you are about to be placed on a plan.

Feeling incompetent is such a low feeling, and when other people tell you that they see your incompetence it cuts so deep!!! I'm glad to see you found something that made you happier❤ keep pushin To quote Jake The Dog, from Adventure Time, "Sucking at something is the first step to being sort of good at something"

It definitely hurts when you realise you're not up to scratch in a job. I had a job like that years ago and even though I put the effort in it just wasn't good enough. I got let go and confidence took a hit, but then I got a job a month later and they loved me 🤷🏾‍♀️. Some things just aren't for you!

Thank you for being vulnerable. It's so rare to see this on social media. I also had performance issues in my previous job that led to me leaving said job. I'm in a better job now, but thinking about what happened still makes me angry to this day.

Could you make a video on how you got the job without the skills? I'm sure you have experience and you speak so well. But I would love to hear the details. Thank you for sharing this girl!

Hey there! thanks for your question! When I interviewed for the job, they saw that I had admin experience like emailing and collaborating on my resume. This role was very entery level so they didn't really care so much about the skill set since you're starting at the bottom. They just wanted to fill up the position as fast a possible. I can make a more detailed video later! Xoxo,Akouto

I gave a two week notice because I have a degree and people who didn’t have a degree were getting paid more than me which I feel wasn’t fair. We could’ve at least got paid the same. Anyways I have two week notice and the girl I thought was my friend was so weird to me and blocked me on Facebook when I left. It’s weird because she would be all up in my business making me think we were friends but when I left she was so weird. People are fake and weird.
