@@angelcelis9090 100% he fucked himself terribly, that’s why you never use a shop your unfamiliar with or you have someone you personally know and trust with cars who can vouch for the shop either way you need to be able to trust the shop to do a proper papi especially if your paying them 200-300$ for it. Bc they should have caught all those problems without question and its clear they either scammed him (the shop) for the 200-300$ or worse they collaborated with the R8 seller bc he could have paid them as well and he’d be none the wiser if the R8 seller had done so, either way he made such a rookie mistake buying this car and wy he’s now out 100k and no longer even has the car! Talk about taking a major L which all could have been avoided if he’d had gone and seen the car himself.

- Didnt fly out to see a stupidly expensive exotic car with 65k+ miles. - Only did the vin check after receiving the car - Paid an unfamiliar shop only $2-$300 for a full teardown inspection on an exotic car - Paid and handed over his own vehicle along with everything else listed above. - Continues to drive a car with a bad transmission knowing parts have to be replaced then **surprised Pikachu face** when the transmission fully blows up. All I'm hearing is that you listened to a bunch of parts changers who never once diagnosed the car. The AC was a big red flag for wiring. You can't simply listen to the code. It's just a reference point on where to start. When it blew the first fuse at the shop, the harness should have been inspected.

I got mildly ripped off on a truck once. The only way I buy is this. Negotiate the price, get a bank check, get the cheapest plane ticket. Go look at, touch etc. Do the final transaction at a bank. I'll drive it back or bring it to a delivery service (depending on how far). If the car doesn't pan out, a cheap plane ticket home.... My only problem is when the car is at a cool city, my wife wants to come along. Makes my $500 budget adventure turn into a $1500 long weekend.

It takes stones to publicly acknowledge bad financial experiences. Brother, don't beat yourself up too hard. A lot of us have done that type of thing. We all live and learn. Yours was pretty expensive, though, but I'll share a couple that I lost $$$ on... * I picked up a 2012 C6 Grand Sport, 5,000 mi. in perfect condition, in 2015 for $45.5. I put over $60k into it, 900HP, E85 built motor, ran great. But when I went to sell it, obviously, I took a hell of a beating. I shouldn't have sold that car, it was perfect. * 2021 I bought a high performance boat during the crazy covid shit. When I sold it, I lost well over $30k. * I recently picked up a new 2023 Durango Hellcat for $89,500. It's depreciation is dropping Like a Rock I'm sure. The point is, if you are in the hobby, it is very, very expensive, no doubt. I personally have done good with the purchases, but when I sell them, I get beat to hell. I don't like the hassle with trying to get top dollar. I'm sure my Durango will be the same thing, but I do plan to keep it forever (LOL).

As a technician for over thirty years they let you down. You are not supposed to guess what's wrong, you're supposed to properly diagnose the customer concern. Playing guessing games is what they did that cost you so much money. Whenever a fuse is blown you should check the wiring. Those shops are just as guilty as the person that sold you the car. If something seems fishy stay away from it especially with those large amounts of money.

When I had my C5 Corvette, I recall seeing in the forum, a common issue with many in which the dash would light up with all kinds of warning lights. It turns out the wiring bundle that went from the door into the engine bad was getting pinched, resulting in insulation being rubbed down until bare wires shorted against each other. Bad design Then the EBCM would fail because of one component....insufficient duration testing by GM Then the rear-mounted smog pump check valve would fail every few years....insufficient duration testing by GM Early door lock module failures......same root cause I could go on and on, but I learned the hard way that if a stock vehicle has problems, modifications may make things worse. THAT'S why I never considered a newer Corvette. GM and electronics/electrical wiring don't mix. Audis are not known to be much better.

Yeah that sounds like a total nightmare. I can relate though wait till you hear this. I found an 06 Lincoln Town Car Signature Limited for sale here in AL. They wanted 14k for it and so I was thinking they either have a super nice car or they have lost there minds right. So I drove the four hours to go see the car and when I get there none of the actuators in the dash worked at all. It would blow cold air out the feet part of the dash but no where else. And the back vents were stuck on cold no heat in the back and this was at the end of winter time. The car had 70k miles on it and the rest of it was perfect so I offered 11k and they settled at 11700 bucks. It's dark cherry metallic which is an awesome color. It's kinda purple or dark red or maroon depending on the light and angle you look at but I love the thing. Everyone I know loves the thing and it's not just a regular old town car there's something special about it. There's about five of them in this town I live in but mine is the only V code eighth digit car with the rims I have. All the others are Y cars and have regular town car rims. Most of them are white but none the same color I got. Anyway about 2000 bucks has fixed the dash it had to come out, got some cat back exhaust it's super loud for a car with cats but it sounds really good. Everyone always says why are your exhaust tips not ran out the back? Well cuz I like em out the side behind the back tire. Oh and I just got a new master cylinder stopping was getting real sketchy there for a minute. I love my car man like nobody's business I paid to much but I don't even care. It was owned by an old dude who took really good care of it. There wasn't a speck of dust behind the dash. All the inspection marks are still there it's like it just rolled out brand new and I'm about to roll over the 75k mark.

$160k for a 2017 R8 V10+ with 65k miles is crazy, $130k absolute max even with the turbo kit, you only got $125k because you traded it for a depreciating 5-Series that you probably paid a bit too much for let's be honest

Modified cars are generally not worth as much as original cars. A good way to flush money down the toilet, modifying cars.

And no way those motors dont handle 1500whp. Its recommended to stay below 1100whp. Go to boost it forwards channel. He was told this on his huracan but pushed it to almost 1200whp. The motor needed a rebuild after one season.

And what's the lesson here kids actually get your problems diag'd prior to just doing what "butchers" in the industry do which is simply toss parts at a car until they figure out what the problem is.... real mechanics diagnose n verify the issue 🤔... Jus sayin

Hello Alex, So, although I am not an expert into such engines V10’s of these R8, since I am not a mechanic in any shape or forms or even trained in such department, as I would like to admit, BUT I used to work for Audi Dealership in the past, for a short period of time, and therefore in the selling department too. I am familiar with the Audi Brand and therefore the R8 in itself. Never had the chance to sell one of these “babies” since these cars are NOT such an easy “candies” that people kinda’ like to throw money around in a such easier way, you get my point... Now, ALL I can tell is that these cars are built with more “detail” general speaking, and unusually do not have such “outrageous” premature “issues” UNLESS someone bit the crap out of them during the ownership and pushed the “pedal to the metal”, as usual too, pretty much, again, you get my point..!!.. Majority of the dealerships DO NOT even do test drive at this level of cars in such a rough ways, and therefore these are taking out of the dealership after the deal is already done for the most part. Liabilities, and/or preventing sycophantic people to destroy these cars while on test drive.. It appears to me that the guy “John” or the “presumable alleged scammer” as you kinda’ portray the previous seller in such a way I would like to say, then you were left with “a junk car” experiencing all these kinds of problems.. Car, that was obviously abused pretty dramatically and drastically, therefore now you were left with a big bills to swallow as you described it.. I am not going to point out some of the, “aka mistakes”, that you already admitted here, since there is NO point to dig into memories that hurts as I can imagine how you feel at this point in time, BUT you should have known that once the guy stated that there is NO issues with the car, THEN you SHOULD have always assumed, that, THERE are issues with the car, since MAJORITY of the people would NOT tell you the true story, general speaking, let alone trying to sell you an “item” of a $160+K bucks. Now, when it comes to any company that will “test” this car and charge you $300, then you should have lawyer up and bring a lawsuit for such a rip off and sloppy performance of their test job trying to prevent you from being scammed, since that was the purpose of your pre-test, correct! I am NOT advising you what to do legally, since that is what I would have done myself in this situation if that would have happened to me, and therefore please do NOT take this as a legal advice in any shape or forms, since that is not my intention at all here, and/or overall I am NOT an attorney and either this is any legal advice at all once again.. Basically, you were blinded by “the reality” that you were try to avoid just to get the car as fast as possible, and you did NOT want to hear ANY bad news about it either, regardless the “consequences”, just saying!!, you get my point too!! Big mistake, my friend!! I can tell you that I was tired hearing ALL kinds of stories from people that were lying to their teeth, when it comes to their trades, which were blatant BS straight up front lies and without ANY shame or concern… On the other hand, don’t get me wrong, Audi Brand have some issues too, since these cars are far from being perfect, and based on my personal experience while working for one Audi Dealership, then all I can tell is that there were some complaints made by some former customers too. So, yes all the brands out there might experience some issues one way or another at some point in time, but for the most part you would by a better quality cars vs other brands, I would say. Moreover, the fact that you got $125k back for you R8 it is still amazing in my opinion since the value of that car would have been way lower and NOT even near of what you sold it/trade it for, I would like to say, regardless how much money you spent to bring it back to life. You probably know that NO dealerships out there would give you back $40k-50+k back for your investments in this trade since many of them would rate you at pennies for dollars when it comes to ANY additional upgrades, NOT to mention a lot of miles (65k) already on the odometer for such an exotic car. Generally, these vehicles comes back way faster into trading spectrum and with few miles, kinda under 10k miles in many occasions, I would like to say, since people that buys such cars barely drive them, not to mention that these exotic cars are NOT a mainly daily driving transportation/s for many of these type of buyers.. The car was trashed and truly abused, “drag-rase” I would assume, since the guy John kinda’ portrayed such “behavior” with your F150, correct?.. Therefore what makes you think that he did NOT do the same thing with the R8 prior for you to get it.. The cables and the camera in itself as well as the overall wiring were exposed to a high temperatures values from the engine compartment and vicinity, due to raising I would like to think of, and therefore that could have been one of the main issue for such failures/issues. You probably got more out of the guy’s lies when you confronted but then that was to late unfortunately since he already “scammed you”…, as it appears that the guy knew more and played dumb later on. I have to say it, but, $80+k lesson was just a weakness that you have and ignore in the end while all the red flags were there to begging with. I am pretty much sure that this is NOT your first rodeo when you bought a car and should have listen to your instincts before you were sweep out of you feet, let alone that the guy is a blatant dishonest person in my opinion.. My advice is, but it new, with full warranty and DO NOT get an extended warranty since it is NOT worth it in my opinions on again. The money that you spent on that car, would have gotten you a brand new one “stock” and some super decent upgrades too, perhaps twin turbo, since dealer sometimes are eager to sell unsold “furniture” at great discounts too… As I said, these items don’t sell as they trying to make you believe. Negotiate, be patient, DON’T rush, do research for a long time, since you don’t buy every day such cars, right?? I did NOT like the business and the shenanigans that are pushed and driven by greed and dishonesty while I worked in the industry, so that is why I could NOT stomach the BS, therefore I end up my carrier in this world of uncertainty and struggle to make sales for such expensive vehicles. I owned dozens of brand NEW cars over the years and I am old enough to know how to do all the regular maintenance and/or upgrades in many different occasions in many of my previous and present cars, therefore I almost RARELY go to ANY dealership for anything. Please keep in mind that all my comments here are for entertainment only, and are just my opinions. Cheers!
