I HAD A BABY! 41 HOURS OF LABOR & BIRTH STORY *TRAUMATIC*

Hey guys! I'M BACK & I AM A MOMMY! I have been away for 3 MONTHS on maternity leave which is unbelievable, on December 1st I had my miracle baby after 15 years of infertility! I had so many ideas of what I thought my birth would look like, and it ended up being SO different. When you watch this birth story, please know that I am aware that there are a LOT of opinions about birth and everyone has different experiences. I know that there may be a lot of people who have a lot to say about my birth, because theirs (or yours) might have been harder, or easier, or more or less traumatic.. and that is the thing - we are ALL different and experience things so differently. I didn't want this to be my story.. but it is. The events leading up to my sons birth (and what happened after he was born) were so traumatic to me that it took me 9 weeks to be able to talk about it after a lot of therapy.
*** I want to make it BLATANTLY CLEAR that I have ZERO issues with hospitals, with epidurals, with c-sections, none of that. I think EVERY way that ANYONE wants to birth is valid, beautiful and their own. Everyone has preferences, for instance, my best friend chose to schedule c-sections for herself - that is HER preference and I think that is amazing. My other friend had a home birth with a midwife & doula - her choice her preference. My other best friend chose a hospital birth center with epidural - her choice her preference. I do not EVER judge or care what ANYONE wants to do in their birth. I think the same goes here - if someone had wanted a scheduled c-section and ended up going into labor and giving birth at home - that could be very traumatizing for them - As it was SO different from their birth preference, ya know? It has nothing to do with feeling like one birth is "better" than another - because I do not believe that. Just way different than anticipated.
It was just SO long, drawn out, painful and after he was born and we weren't sure if he was okay.. it was a LOT.
For anyone who wants to know what happened, baby was asynclitic.
Re-editing this, I told Zack "I don't know if I am justified in feeling as traumatized by this as I have.. because ultimately our son was okay" and he said "Kristi no, it was SO difficult and SO traumatizing for me too. If you get in a car crash, even if you all survive it can still be traumatizing to you" and that made me realize that he is right. Ultimately our sweet angel baby is here with us and doing SO well - which is the MOST important thing.
I believe that everyone is valid in feeling however they do about their own birth experience. People always say "as long as the baby is healthy, thats all that matters" and while it is the MOST important part, it is not ALL that matters. The parents mental health and experience matters too.
Please be kind in the comments so I can leave them on.
I will do a Q&A answering any questions that you all have after this video is up for a bit, so make sure to follow on other social media (IG & Twitter) if you want to participate in the Q&A if there was something I didn't cover!

I'm a male UK Paramedic and I have seen many shares of traumatic births. I just wanted to say to ALL women that you are amazing, you astound me with your bravery, tolerance to pain, and sheer determination even when put far too much pressure on yourselves. I hope that your Trauma heals over time and that you are receiving the best help to work through it, I have no doubt what wonderful parents you and Zach will make and have watched you for years. I'm a gay guy I've never watched you for makeup tips but your personality and storytelling captivate me whenever I watch. I've been so busy in the last year with ongoing global catastrophes to spend time catching up on what has been going on. I missed the fact you were even pregnant, so this has been a wonderful binge-watch over Christmas 2021. I wish you all the best over the new year and the coming years...

As a NICU nurse, I truly believe your midwife was your sons hero that day! Even though she wasn’t able to be there for the delivery, getting you guys to the hospital was crucial. Let’s not forget....you and Zach LISTENED to her advice. Never forget what an amazing advocate you were for your son on that AMAZING day!!! Thanks for sharing such an important story! So much love to you and your beautiful family! 💗💗💗💗

I was on Pitocin for 29 hours with my first child. No pain meds. My son was in distress and I was close an emergency C-Section. I finally relented and agreed to an epidural. This relaxed me so much that I went from a 6 dilated to a 10, and 30 minutes later I was holding my baby boy. Pitocin is NO joke! ❤

I so admire your bravery to open yourself here. I was in labor for 48 hours with my first child, which has become a non ending source of great fun for our family, and since he has a WONDERFUL sense of humor, and he knows how much we love him, he LOVES the teasing and gives it right back! Lol Around the time he turned 15, 16, I used to wake him up 48 hours before his birthday, and would whisper "Justin...48 hours" . When he was working in another state, he called me COLLECT, so as a Mom I'm all worried something happened. Instead, he just said "48 hours Mom. Love you"" and hung up. Even his sister gets in on the joke. Her favorite line is "48 hours of labor, and THIS is what we got! It's all done/said with great love. He's 45 now, and Still loves this joke, so it lives on. My only piece of advise is "enjoy your son"

Honestly everyone makes fun of women who do their hair and makeup and shaving and all that before going in for birth, but the truth is there is a lot of time before it’s going to happen and these little mundane tasks can kill time and be so self-soothing. Grooming and taking care of yourself is a really great way to calm nerves.

I watched my sister do a full beat while she was in labor, and I remember our family just roasting her. It may seem silly to put on false lashes before giving birth, but that’s just her. Whatever your personality is and whatever you use to cope or ready yourself for intense life experiences should not be ignored just because you’re having a baby

My heart goes out to you, dear! I also had a very traumatic birth. I was prepared mentally for it to be bad, but what happened surpassed my expectations tenfold. Everything was going well until the actual birth. No matter how hard I pushed it just wouldnt come out. 30 mins later the doctor literally stuck his hands in and pulled it out. Turns out the baby was tangled in his cord 3 times. But I kept bleeding out. Was under general annestesia two times while they tried to save my ovaries, as well as my life. Spend 24h in reanimation, got 4 banks of blood and lots of other stuff, 4 days of continuous pain, 4 days bedridden without being able to see my child. I was so exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally that I couldnt even feel the happiness when they brought my son. I felt so guilty about it and the memory still haunts me almost 2 years later. There are details I am sure I wouldn't be able to share with anybody.

Anyone who knows you, meaning your channel, knows how prepared and ready you were! You made it your literal job, you learned even more that you already knew (which was a lot) and you are so self aware and responsible. You're gonna be a great mother, one that inspires so many to keep pushing on and to be down to earth, all with love, care and compassion. The negative comments, by strangers (or not) are nothing more than garbage blow in the wind and they have one thing in common: they don't know you, don't understand you and lastly but not last importantly: they can not be about you. Why? Because if they indeed did know you, they simply wouldn't exist. No one is perfect but you are close to that perfection momma, and your husband and your beautiful baby know it, and they are the only ones that matter.

I know I'm 3 years late to your birth. Firstly I'm so happy for you that you were able to finally have a baby, after 15 years of infertility. As to you birth story, I know exactly how you felt. I went through exactly the same as you. The pain when they put you on that medication to increase your contractions is sooooooooo painful, I thought I was going to die too. I've never experienced such unbearable pain in all my life. Sadly, even though I got to 8cms, they told me I was in trouble, because I had Eclampsia . They told me I had to have a Caesarean. I was crushed, but I'm glad my son was ok and although it took me 1 year to get well. The eclampsia made me so ill. My lovely boy is now 25 and my little miracle. You were so brave and strong, but you did it and I'm so happy that he was ok and you too. I guess he's 3 years old now. Bless his sweet little life. I was riveted watching your story. God bless your little family. ❤❤❤❤

It’s so true. Downplaying traumatic birth means women aren’t prepared and then when it happens to them they feel like they can’t talk about it. 22 years later I can still remember the attitudes of “you have a healthy baby why are we still talking about this?” I got when trying to process my own traumatic birth experience.

I got that epidural and omg thank goodness for medical science/ pharmaceuticals! I honestly think it helps when you’re relaxed and not so tense, it helps things move along. My mother told me I would forget the pain!?! My daughter is 26. I have not forgot. If you decide to have another, it will be easier for you. Your body will remember what to do. I was in 5 days of labor and my body would NOT let me deliver vaginally. It was the most horrible feeling ever and I felt for SO long after that I wasn't even a real mom for having to have a cesarean. Watching this video brought back so many memories of childbirth that I cried when your baby was finally pulled and laid on your chest for the first time. It's so amazing. You are 100% a real mom! 5 days of labor are you kidding me?! Most women would give in WAY before that and opt for an induction/pitocin/c-section! You did amazing! You brought a human being into this world! It doesn't matter they got here, you carried them and birthed them with the help of a c-section which is an amazing thing! You aren't just a mom you are freaking supermom! I can't even imagine 5 days of labor! You and all mothers are so amazingly strong!!👏👏👏❤❤

Rewatching this year's after having your sweet baby boy. I hate that this happened to you, and how it effected you. But how things are going now, I truly think it happened for a reason. This experience pushed you to get the help you needed with therapy, and focusing on your mental/physical health that you had pushed off for so long. Your baby came into your life for such bigger reasons, such a bigger purpose.

It’s mind blowing to me that mothers will put each other down based on their birth experience. Zach was awesome, he reminds me of the way my husband was for the births of our two boys. I will say this, my husband (and I’m betting Zach) kind of hates when he gets praised for this kind of behavior, for being a good father and supportive husband. He says, isn’t that what men are supposed to do? Is the bar really so low that we have to praise these men that act like men and love and support their wives and children? It’s a question worth asking, for sure. Doesn’t take away from the props the men like this deserve, but let’s not act like this is something special, unattainable, or anything less than any woman or child deserves from their partner or father.

I had a similar experience myself, the infertility, the realization you won’t be able to have a baby, the shock of being pregnant and the intense labor right from the beginning, the feeling like your going to die, the hopeless feeling that your body isn’t performing the way it should…you never forget it. The thing that people don’t understand about us moms…we would go through it again and again just to get that end result of loving another human so intensely. My daughter is now 20 years old and I couldn’t ask for a better person to love as much as I love her with everything in me. She was worth it. My hope for you is that you are given the same opportunities as all of us moms out there to be able to go through the rest of your life loving your little one. Your story is an inspiration, truly! My oldest also had her first BM in the womb and my water broke at home, I know that fear and timeline very well. It was 12 hours later she came, I was young and scared so I got an epidural right away. My youngest daughter, I was like you and wanted to labor on my own as long as I could. My body was like yours and was so stressed out from the pain, that an epidural was needed. She came soon after. Having a baby is as close to heaven as you can be while you are earthbound. Out of those 25 eggs, the drs retrieved, 24 fertilized with my husband's... Hwvr. I became hyperstimulated, the Dr's took all 24 embryos and froze them, only 6 survived meanwhile I prayed and asked the Lord to take all of my little life's, and bless me with one of His own. Exactly 1 yr later I became pregnant .Naturally* 🤰, I looked up, and I humble ask the Lord if my daughter could have a sister. I became pregnant again with another beautiful daughter❤❤❤❤God is good, and His timing is perfect.

My first baby was an induction with Pitocin. Having no other labor to compare it to, your description was spot on! It was like the contractions never stopped, so intense I didn’t have enough breath in me to even scream.I cried thru a lot of it and begged for a c-section ( which I ended up with anyway). I swear I had the meanest labor/delivery nurse, they also kicked my husband out of the room for the c-section, saying they didn’t want to deal with a fainting Father. I was so out of it with the pain that I assumed he was going to be in the room once he got gowned and masked up. This was also 30 yrs ago,so thankfully women have more say in their birthing process. This video is 2 years old (almost to the day, so happy birthday little guy!) but I just had to comment. I had never seen any of your videos before, but your recent video about feeling "dead inside" was in my feed, so I had watched that, and then looked around on your channel and, even though this was a really long video, decided to watch it. I'm so glad I did! I'm older than you and unfortunately don't have any children and have never even gotten to experience pregnancy. I have to tell you, your story, and the way you told it, and your REALNESS... omgosh!... had a grip on me! I cried so many times and you honestly educated me about what it's like for moms, especially when their birthing experience doesn't quite work out as they had hoped... the ups, the downs, the joy, the fear, the hope, thankfulness and love! Giving birth is something I will never get to do, but thanks to you creating this video, and the real 'everything' you and your amazingly supportive husband went through, it gave me a peek into that life experience that really touched me. I've only seen the two videos so keep that in mind, but I hope that "dead inside" feeling goes away for you, and all of us soon. This video of your birth experience is really what life is all about isn't it? Just... love. The Serenity Prayer says something about accepting the things we can't change, having courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference. We don't have to let negative influences like social media, politics, war coverage, and corporate marketing into our lives, we allow them in. We can limit them as much as we need to! I think we all need to get back into nature... experience it with all 5 senses, appreciate it, take care of it, and protect it. Nature has no ulterior motives in trying to get the biggest share of our attention, to get us to watch, to manipulate and distort (what we at least used to agree were) facts to get us to shift our views into theirs, or to get us to spend our money on. It just... is. It doesn't lie to us, it doesn't intentionally cause anxiety in us, and it doesn't constantly all day long, from the time we are babies, put pressure on us to buy, buy, buy something. We are here to love and take care of each other and our beautiful planet given to us by God, not to be seen as something to be riled up, used up, and taken advantage of by media with political interests instead of facts (look at WHO owns the company you get your news from, people!) and corporations whose ONLY concern is their bottom line. It's about relationships, not stuff... about realness, not appearances, and until we quit buying into what they're trying so hard to sell us, AND teach all children not to either, it will never change. So many of us are longing for simplicity and it's right there... go hug your loved ones and take a walk outside together... you'll feel so much better!

That one nurse at the end when you were about to give birth, telling the other nurses abt your infertility story like a proud friend was SO SWEET and honestly made me tear up!! And Zach just looking at you so lovingly the entire time... omg. Through all of the pain and horror, what a beautiful ending

Mothers should be able to talk about their traumatic birth experiences. It would normalize that not all birth experiences are happy and rainbows. I’m so glad you’re putting your mental health first and giving your son the best life he could possibly have. (Also props to Zack for being literally the best husband ever.)

My mom was in labor with me for almost 72 hours.... The doctor that delivered me almost killed us both because she was on the labor hormone for too long. Made it out okay obviously, but another woman wasn't so lucky as he let her bleed to death. As far as I know he was sued and is no longer practicing. She wasn't supposed to be able to have kids too and now she has three. She had PCOS and every time she had cysts removed and ended up pregnant

@@littleplague5988 This is so horrible. I’m glad you and your mom are okay. But I mean this so disrespectfully, FUCK that doctor and I hope he’s in jail for manslaughter.

I followed your pregnancy journey back when you first posted, and cried with you and felt so much joy for the two of you. Now im rewatching these vlogs while 22 weeks with my first, feeling those tiny kicks and just empathizing in a completely different way than before. Much love to your little family ❤️

The midwife acknowledging your 16 years of infertility and struggles to get here right after you felt his head during pushing was SO BEAUTIFUL TO ME. After everything you had been through, from the infertility to the excruciating labor... it all lead to this beautiful moment that was SO WORTH IT. I am so happy for you, Kristi. Oh my GOD this is amazing.

What I cannot get over is how different labor can be from woman to woman. Kristi has a 41 hour labor requiring Pitocin and other women can't make it from the house to the car w/o the baby flying out! The human body is amazing.

Thank you for honesty because not enough people talk about the negative side and say birth is all sunshine and rainbows but when it’s not like that for a person they think there is something wrong with them. There is nothing wrong with them it’s just different. 💜

Oh my god this made me sob like a baby. Seeing a mother like you who wanted a baby more then anything just makes my heart so happy for you. I cried like a baby watching this I didn’t even have these same emotions when I had my son . I never wanted to be a mother and I was told I wouldn’t be able to as I lost my left ovary and tube but my son is my biggest blessing and to see you get yours after wanting it more then anything this video made my whole year 💕
