Hee Romee! Mijn moeder is nu aan het herstellen van kanker. Was (en is) allemaal mega heftig, en vooral de emoties en rare gedachten die daarop volgen. Waarom heeft niemand het over de naklap? I appreciate your being supported by a brand and assume/know they give you money to talk about their product. But it REALLY bothered me that, there you are, being treated for cancer and in the hospital for a stem cell transplant - in the bathroom doing essentially a commercial. I saw in Instagram that you are out of the hospital now. I truly hope your spirits are better. We are all thinking of you and sending our most since wishes for your recovery and health and happiness. If you haven’t been seeing a therapist during your illness, you should be and need to be. It is a significant life change and it’s easier to have therapy ongoing to manage fires rather than waiting till the fire gets out of control and trying to have a therapist help put it out. I have a life-threatening disease I will never be rid of and I can’t say how important it is to get therapy.

@marnies6381
@marnies6381 3 года назад
@Holly Daugherty Yes, definitely. Especially with cancer...your hair grows back, you’re able to do (if you’re lucky) most of the things you used to be able to do and people treat you like someone who’s never been sick. Because you look “normal”. But others don’t see the exhaustion and the massive impact it had on you emotionally. And some people will expect you to feel “normal” again, too. So I think you are absolutely right, seeing a therapist is so beneficial, because you get to talk to someone who is able to help you navigate through all those emotions.

@@laurelowens8162 I'm sorry you got such a bad experience with therapy. It sounds frustrating for putting faith in something that ends up not going well and I can relate to an extent. But there are a lot of people who have great success with therapy and I find it a bit irresponsible to discourage them from seeking help. For a while I was getting fed up with my therapy but thanks to me continuing and to my therapist for being patient, I was able to curb my panic disorder for years until I got it back recently. So I say I suggest everyone at least try to do it and even try a few different therapists. It's not a lost cause and the field of psychology is always evolving! You'll learn something new. Just open your mind and give it a chance.

About to watch fully now, but by the title I just wanted to say you’re not alone, and tbh I’m surprised it took this long for a mental breakdown! My first few nights at the hospital the nurses had to give me panic attack meds to get me to stop crying lol. Everyone is entitled to breakdown sometimes, it’s part of being human.

Since I couldn’t tell her no, I don’t crochet, I found videos to help me. If I can do it, you can too. Just start with something easy like a granny square. I feel ya Romee!!! I'm 68 years old - when I was around 14ish I learned how to crochet; I think my maternal grandmother taught me. I crocheted a beautiful large doily out of variegated yarn and gave it to my grandmother. From that time on (she lived to be 91) she had that doily on a little table in the living room underneath a small table lamp and later placed my high school graduation photo next to it. I brought the doily home after her funeral but I have no earthly idea how to crochet now!! I also knew how to knit and in my early 20's I learned to needlepoint and made quite a few things doing that. I'd like to crochet again so I purchased a book at a used book store as well as some yarn & crochet hooks at Walmart. Still haven't gotten around to trying to learn again.

I learned to crochet when I was nine. I’m now 64. Everyone I have taught the first thing I had them do ( before attempting a pattern) was to learn the stitches and get comfortable doing them… rows of single crochet, double crochet, etc.. As many have said there are some great tutorials on RU-vid. You can do it! I like it because I don’t have to think too hard about it. For me it is relaxing.

hi Romee I hope you are doing better. I've been watching your videos but I never commented until now. I too am fighting cancer. I'm Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Basically terminal. This is my 2nd time fighting. I was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2015. I beat then but I found out a year ago it came back and spread to my bones. My left femur and left clavical spontaneously broke. Had emergency surgery and found out through scans that the demon was back. I as well wondered why some lived and some die. All I can tell you is there is no rhyme or reason to this disease. It doesn't discriminate. We all have our path and we all have our journey. I could die at anytime. Doesn't have to be cancer. It could be a plane crash or car accident. You never know. We are chosen to tell a story about survival and what we go through. And hope it may help someone. Or make someone feel they are not alone. Don't think about why me, why do some get to live longer. We all don't get out of this life alive. Thinking about that stuff just robs us of going on with life. It's survivors guilt. Completely normal to feel that way. It's ok not to be ok. Just don't get complacent with it. We are going to have our bad days and good days. Just know you are not alone in feeling this way. Just live life the best you can. Listen to that song from Tim McGraw " Live like you are dying". It gets me through a rough patch.

Oh sweetie, I am so in tune with you it hurts. I am a 2-time cancer survivor and so is my daughter, and we have both discussed feelings like yours so often. I love that you are so open and honest about your feelings because too many of us hide those away with the shame they rode in on and leave them there, unresolved. But I have also found (and I see this in your videos as well) that so many of my inner gifts became much more visible during treatment. I have always loved to laugh, and my grown children and I share a gift for "dark" humor :) and I found myself laughing at the most unusual things during treatment. My gift of compassion rose to new heights with others. My gift of calling things as I see them, rather than how I imagine them, served me very well and kept me from believing the lies we tend to tell ourselves about that future we had carved out that might not be there. You keep doing you and you will come out of this intact. People like to call us warriors and then we feel we have to live up to that by soldering on when we should be in the sick bay. You are allowed to cry. I used to cry in the shower so I could watch those tears wash down the drain, never to return. Each day has it's onw individual tears. Many a good sleep has been birthed by a well of tears. Sending love and grandmotherly hugs to you.

Its normal to feel ups and downs for anyone not to mention someone dealing with all you have in the past year. We are all supporting you Romee we love you. Your giraffe color page was BEAUTIFUL. crocheting is awesome once you get the hang of it. maybe just start with a blanket.... Sending hugs!!!

Survivors guilt is difficult. I’ve had it too. Therapy really helped me, but more than that even, time helped. Time is a wonderful healer. I’m so sorry you’re having such a hard time with it, but it’s normal if that’s any comfort. I’m sending you so much love always 💕

Timer I love your videos! You’re so sweet and honest! I have leukemia and have had the same questions and feelings as you. I’m thankful but I feel guilty. I hate cancer but I don’t want pity. There are things we will never understand! I pray a lot and it really helps. God really helps. I need a lot of peace to go through this chemo thing and sickness so I pray and God helps me , gives me peace. I’ve written letters before to people who have hurt me. I never sent them but writing it out on paper helped me tremendously! Also there’s great satisfaction in scrunching the paper up after and throwing it away!! Lol Hang in there! You’ve been given a gift- LIFE. Live it. Squeeze every oz you can from it for yourself and for those who weren’t so fortunate as you and I. I just love you!💖💖

Survivor's guilt is real, and it does hurt. I have it too (fighting my own cancer atm) and I try my best to let those feelings go when I can and focus on the happier stuff. Its easy to spiral out of control and have mental breakdowns, I still get them myself, but then I try and do something that makes me happy so the darkness goes away. Stay strong Romee!

Sometimes a good cry is the best thing you can do! When my daughter was growing up and one of us had had a tough day we would pick out a “crybaby movie” and watch it together. The whole point of the movie was to let out the bottled up emotions by using the movie as a jumping off place. There were times that we didn’t even finish the movie because as soon as we were able to talk about our rough day we would just talk and talk. We had some of our best conversations after those movies. But I love your cry in the shower approach! I can see how you could feel refreshed after one of those outpourings. However you deal with this journey, Romee, it is the right way! Your entire purpose right now is to just “be”. Crying, laughing, crocheting, or writing letters, all of it is good! I love just listening to you! I get so excited to see that you have posted. You are brave and you are strong! And you are not alone!!!

Romee everybody deserves to live unfornately not everybody live but those who do it’s just because they still have a lot of things to share, to teach and to learn. Thanks for fighting specially for those who can’t. Here in Mexico there are a lot of children and young adults like you fighting against cancer without medicines. Don’t be sad. You are wonderful

Breakdown is necessary for breakthrough. Your honesty and openness to experience makes you more vulnerable than others, but it also makes you stronger. There are not many young people with your viewpoint, who live that truth every day. You are special, Romee, and not because you’re ill. Life has plans for you, and this part of your journey will prepare you for what’s to come. Much love, sweet girl.

What you said about being in the hospital makes you feel safe really resonated with me, that's exactly how I felt while waiting for my brain surgery. I think one whole month alone could drive anyone crazy, you're doing so great! And, My Sister's Keeper is actually also a book, with a different ending than the movie, I highly recommend you to read it!! ^^

I just got out of the hospital after a double lung transplant. I was in for a month, and started to get really depressed, literally having a mental breakdown. I met with the hospital psychiatrist and he helped to ease my hospital depression. It takes a toll on your mental health being stuck in a room , the same walls, the same window view ....I get it. I even started hating the greenish grey paint on the walls.! You’re doing great. You got this, you’re a warrior. Soon this will all be behind you.

Survivor's guilt is real as I am sure you know. I think writing the letters is a wonderful idea and I like someone's idea about burning them if you want. I am not sure you want to hear this, but I also agree with those bringing up the idea of talking to a therapist. I hate feeling like I am overstepping boundaries, I just know from my personal experince that there are major misconceptions about therapy in the NL. I support you and I hope that you are feeling better!

I am glad you're showing us both the ups and the downs. You're on a wild and difficult journey. Also, you're allowed to say what you need to say to the people who need to hear it. You're allowed to seek closure. You're allowed to tell people they've hurt you or let you down. You don't have to write the letter and never send it - you can send it. The only thing you have to be prepared for is that they are also allowed to respond, and it might not be what you want to hear (or maybe it will be something good that will make room for healing, either together or apart).
