I completely agree with you on the Jake from State farm, I never thought about it really until I saw that clip of him at the basketball game for the first time and then what you pointed it out makes it even more clear lol. now I cannot unsee what a weird capitalist ploy it is.
I think I truly realized how dystopian the real world is is when I saw a crowd and like a 20 minute line for a Jake from state farm MEET AND GREET at a convention. People were willing to wait in line surrounded by convention traffic for an INSURANCE MASCOT.
The weirdest part is that the original Jake was a REAL guy named Jake who ACTUALLY worked for State Farm. Now they've co-opted his name to a random actor...
RIGHT?! so trippy ! it’s like his identity was taken. like i know there’s lots of people named jake and im sure a fair few work for state farm but since it originated from a real worker it’s just a lil off
that was my issue with it! like why'd they have to replace him with a more classically handsome guy, why couldn't jake state farm just stay some guy (also they did just wait way too long to bring him back as a character)
Here here!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I seriously hate those fuckin Progressive commercials. Truly the worst; and why do they make her so grotesquely and disingenuously peppy?
Dude, the "how would you like it if Black Panther" bit actually made me feel viscerally angry lmao. You nailed how quick these guys go to that example like it actually means anything 😅
15:19 delta airlines plays a delta airlines ad every time you turn on a new show or movie on the screens on the seat backs in the plane. like i’m buckled up on ur plane you got me
these corporate identities arent just pathetic excuses to relate to the common person but also kinda scary because they work on some people, that person becomes a part of the brand instead of retaining any autonomy. i hate it also doesn't help that i have no idea what state farm is im not american
@@kenzij Noted! I'm pretty sure my parents' cars are under Allstate and the house is under something else. Fortunately not State Farm lmao. I'll just have to remember for when I graduate university and start my own life.
@@crazyowlgirlcncowner I just remember it this way 🎶Like a _real_ neighbor State Farm is there...🎶 if you need help bringing in a couch or something, but not, like, in an emergency.
All of your points are valid and I totally agree, but I also just want to criticize their strategy: I’m not a marketing person by any means, but I am admittedly a person who can get a little sucked in by funny ads or pretty packaging (my downfall, tbh), so it just seems to me that it would make more sense to keep his social media 1) funny, 2) true to the original character and 3) drive home the “like a good neighbor” bit. So in my mind, wouldn’t an approach like, say, mildly absurdist content of him going the extra mile to “be a good neighbor” be more fun to watch? An example: It’s 2am in the backwoods of the Appalachian wilderness and a man with a beard and overalls has a conundrum that only Jake from SF can remedy. He calls Jake, Jake hops in his economy vehicle, the fact that he’s in LA is no match for his deep NEED to be THE BEST GODDAMN NEIGHBOR, and drives all night, up ridiculous hills and dirt roads, etc. When Jake arrives, he gets out of the car, greets the mountain man with a “Hello neighbor! So what’s the problem?!” And our bearded, overalled friend points to like, I dunno, a new deck having been destroyed during a barbecue when a group of forest critters came to crash the party. So then Jake - and Jake alone - cleans up and fixes the whole thing. And if State Farm is reading this, I will sue the shit out of you if you take my ideas. Hire me you cowards.
Jake from State Farm is fixing my relationship by having one on one consultations with my gf. Weird that it always happens when i’m at work but she seems happier!! Thanks Jake💕
it’s funny because for YEARS i’ve been saying that i hate jake from state farm LMAO i’ve always said that he just seems too cool, like he’s not similar to the original guy in the commercial, it just really seems like he’s being used to make state farm to seem cool and relatable
A friend of mine was an actor for a corporation and the "face" of that brand. He had to adhere to be the "face" until the popularity of his character died down or pretend that he just looked like the actor playing that role
In Australia we have an insurance brand called AAMI and the ‘mascots’ are a bunch of women dressing as flight attendants and I’m assuming they’re called Amy LMAO edit: Almost forgot ING which is a lion, Ram which is a ram, Compare the Market which is two meerkats, HBF with their quokkas, and Youi which is just some random dude lol
“Like a good neighbor State Farm is there” was written by Barry Manilow at the start of his career and was paid $500 for it. State Farm has been milking it ever since.
I think the idea of jake from state farm is fun and thats why I dont get annoyed when I consume the content but I am still apart of reality so I never interact with said content
oh, i just remembered! the last time i watched a video of yours, my younger brother saw the intro and said it was really cool! so it’s both me and my brother approved :D
yesssssssss!!! as an australian millenial Online, i never really got jake from state farm or geico gecko but this video reminded me of katut and i Get It Now
good video, thank you! would you be down to do a video exploring the Progressive Cinematic Universe? Jamie is so transmasc-coded idk if anyone else has noticed lmaoo
Jake, from state farm, is literally a mean girl and his target audience is A-typical people he makes feel bad in order to supply the corporate insurance firm he represents
