You’re probably asking for too much on the private sale. You want to price it kind of halfway between what the dealer is offering you, and what you think it’s worth according to KBB. Try to price it somewhere reasonable, that people are going to buy it simply because of the deal, but make sure it’s still a better deal than the dealership for you. Remember, this is rarely going to be “THE CAR” that people ideally want, since it’s so random, so you can’t price it fully at KBB value. Needs to be a deal, kinda halfway between KBB value and the dealership’s offer

Every time I'm at a stop light and see nice car or truck pull next to me, my first thinking is, I wonder how much their monthly payments are? I don't even see the "beauty" of the car. I see huge payments. I love having a paid off car. Paid mine off years ago and will drive my car until my wheels fall off. I will never have a car payment again.

The 2011 Altima was fully paid off in 2018. Recently, I invested $1500.00 on a new paint job and an additional $1200.00 on fixing some minor mechanical issues. With these improvements, I expect it to remain in good condition for the next two years.

You need to get multiple offers from actual dealerships, not CarMax. I agree with Dave that those offers seem like they are pretty low. If that truck is a four-door model and not some base type model, there's no reason why it shouldn't be in the 40s

No that’s right for his truck. I bought my truck before Covid from enterprise and got a great deal on it, it was a 2019 dodge ram 1500 all the bells and whistles. Paid 23,500 for it , 20k mileage. When I found you guys later. I sold my truck in 2023 to a private seller and they gave me 28,500 for it. I was grateful to have got more out of it. But there were places trying to buy it from me for for around 24k. He’s not going to get more than what they paid me for my truck for his. Sad case

Never will I take out a loan for a car! People care so much about impressing others with their car. So many people at my job have a brand new car and I don’t even want to think about the monthly on them not to mention gas insurance and maintenance. Been driving a Nissan for a couple years paid off and my next car will be paid for CASH god willing

I had a cow when I had to get a car back in 2019 after my 22 year old one became terminal. I set a budget of $12k and was having a cow with $300 per month payments. After 8 months, I refinanced at half the rate and paid the old payment and paid off the car in 4 years. I hope I never have to buy another car.
