My grandfather's revolver that he use with railroad police was 38 purchase from Sears 1912 new I think it was less than $20. My father used it with Houston Sheriff Department until 1979 . Work gun supported our family went to work everyday and well taken care of
I never realized it, but I am a Colt New Service fanatic! Most of my guns are in 44 Special or 45 Colt with one in 45 ACP and another in 38 special and 38-40.
Im so glad they spoke of fitz modified new services, when I saw all the images they took from mr.fitz book 'shooting' I was starting to get upset they weren't mentioning him haha
Don’t have one but got the police positive in 38 spl with I believe about a 5 in barrel made in 1919. It’s in vary good shape, also got my 6 in Royal blue Python made in 76 or 77 I think it was.
Have acolt 1917 army. Years ago I found a cyclinder and crane from a colt 1"909 New Service. All it took was to trim the front of the crane to mate with my 1917. Other than that it was a drop in fit. I perfer this cyclinder when shooting ,45 colt.. The colt 1917 is .452 bore. the clot new service is .454. The colt 1909 is .452. There are very few, almost no target grips. I use a grip adapter or a big thick glove with finger and thumb cut off. Today there seems to be shortage of gunsmiths who can work on Colt double action revolvers. This is sad cause they are easier to fix lthan S&W. These Colts are find guns. I own all five major models .Shoot them shoot them often and enjoy the smiles.
I much prefer the look and sense of purpose these old Colts have compared to the Pythons. It's funny how Korth revolvers are going through the same thing now with people losing interest in the classic design and wanting cut outs on the barrel etc.
@@Dunkleosteusenjoyer i use 1/2 moon clips, shoots great, it is my side arm when hunting, elk, bear what ever . I go in the Bridger Mountains so there are lions, wolves, moose, ect.
