You don't really know how varied all of Zeppelin's music is. I'm a 55 year black male and been listening to Zeppelin since I was 16. I hate I never got to see this band live.

I got to see them live twice again on the Page/Plant your and when Jimmy toured with the Black Crowes. Bonham and Zep are the reason I was in a touring band in the 1970's and have been playing the drums for 50 years. Grateful I got to see them and I wish you could have as well....you'd have been blown away!

saying "I haven't heard this side of them" simply means that you're listening in the wrong direction. i recommend, when a band has albums that are numbered, start with the first one. actually, you should always work forward, to better understand the journey they took to get where they ended up. this song, written and performed by Jake Holmes, covered by the Jimmy Page era of the Yardbirds, then re-imagined (a bit) by Led Zeppelin is the PERFECT example of how the blues became rock music. and you can follow that progression by listening to Led Zeppelin albums in order

What...reimagined a bit? Led Zeppelin took into the stratosphere! This band had the perfect line-up, so in sync with each other. This began life as a Jake Holmes folky acoustic song and, after he was their support act, Jimmy transformed it for The Yardbirds. Compare The Yardbirds with Zepp's version though and it just pales beside it, it was certainly a good attempt but Jimmy must have known it had much more potential in the right hands. I don't just think they needed this song to fill up Zepp's first album, I believe it's a massive statement of intent, the fact Jimmy had it as the band's introduction to the world.

John Bonham was one of the best drummers of all time. The sound of his drums was always over-emphasized and the sound quality was always top notch. "When the Levee Breaks" is an amazing showcase for Bonham's drumming. That recording was done in a 18th-century stone building and the drums were set up in a hallway. The acoustics for the drums echoed and reverberated. Amazing.

No disco, just rock and roll and friends! It was a time before personal computers, the Internet, Twitter, RU-vid etc. We hung out and enjoyed our company in the flesh. Or come home from the afternoon shift, with some take out, slide into a comfy chair, watch some TV smoke a dube and then slip on the headphones and just space out to Led Zeppelin, Cream, Black Sabbath, Foghat, Supertramp or Pink Floyd! The Led Zep boys were young when they recorded this, off their first album in 1968. The instrument you hear Robert singing along with is a guitar being played with a cello bow, giving it that eerie sound.

There’s a “Dazed and Confused” from 1993. movie starring Matthew McConaughey. It was his breakout role. It’s set in 1976 on their last day of high school, about a group of (mostly) seniors and their quest to get high, drunk and laid. Hilariously funny.

The back-and-forth between the guitar licks and Robert Plant's mimicry feels like a variation of 'call and response' to me. It shows an interactive awareness between the musicians in the moment--being locked in to the same groove... it always feels invigorating when I hear it. You're lucky--there's still so much new/great Zeppelin for you to explore and discover!! :)

This is from their first album. You can imagine how it knocked our socks off more than 50 years ago! Can you imagine? This song is more than half century old. Sounds as good now as it did then. The part that you said sounded trippy was the great Jimmy Page using a bow and wa-wa peddle on his guitar. Lead singer, Robert Plant, also plays the blues harp in this and other Zep songs. Drums are courtesy of Mr. Jon Bonham (RIP), universally considered one the best rock drummers of all time. On bass is the great John Paul Jones, who also plays keyboards when needed, as on the highly recommended song "Kashmir." Led Zeppelin is still influencing musicians to this day.

Y'all need to remember the time this music was current. "Trippy" - "Floating" and such .... Y'all, the times were the primo hippy days - people floating alright - psychedelic sounds, etc. Their music really is the feel and passion of the time. Never had been a time like that and never will be again. Everything was new and exciting. Not just because we were young, per se, but because so much of the music types and sounds had never been done before. And there were so many diverse sounds. A top 20 list for a given year might have a song by Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Herman's Hermits, Rolling Stones, Glen Campbell, Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Martha & the Vandellas, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, Otis Redding, The Platters, and more. We were in heaven. 🎶
