I hid a snowmobile way out in the bush. We go look for it. Watch part one first. Please SUBSCRIBE. Thanks Part one is here: • I HID A SNOWMOBILE IN ...
Miles from anything, pitch black and cold, way back in the woods. A great dog along for the ride and Buddy she didn't miss a beat when you said "There's a deer!". You're living the dream. Thanks for the ride!
This is one of the most satisfying videos I've watched in a long time. Not many would even take on such an adventure. My hats off to you sir. Cant wait to see the old girl on that same trail in the future.
great video, glad to see some canadians getting some credit on youtube. just moved to edson from saskatchewan last year and these bush trails look like they would be fun to sled down
Thanks. And yep there are cutlines all over bazillions of trails. Fun to hit the ones that aren’t groomed but Edson does have their own groomed trails.
Great video. 👍 I kept forgetting you were rather homeless when originally stored it out in the bush... I was having a hard time getting my head around the fact a guy would intentionally leave an un assembled sled in the middle of nowhere. Good on you picking it back up.
Lol I had a home but in was a 1970 Ford Camper with a woodstove. Just no where to put things. I do my rounds every spring and clean up the back country when I can. But I don’t recommend leaving old vehicles you own out in the bush lol. Thanks for watching.
Man you got balls going that deep in the woods ,,,alone.....I own a 2002 ram 2500 4x4....gas...5.9... This has been a great adventure..watched part one as well.. you sure trust that old truck.. I had to put my old dog down last year September.....I rescued a blue pitt ,they spent about a year or so together..ol Tasha was an American pitt...14 years old..I to love my dog's..your ol pup looks pretty good now..good to hear she come around..thanks for bringing us along on this adventure Sir.👍,,,I'm into old stuff to..I rode sleds many years in upstate NY..I now live in Mississippi..I just got sick of the cold.55 years old and have steel plate in my neck..back is getting pretty bad to....I drag race for many years as well. And it's all catching up to me now....lol....but man this has really be fun watching ya... pretty county side up there..I lived about 65 miles from Canada..on lake Ontario..in a little town called mexico ny.. Oswego county... again thanks for posting this content..👍👍👍,,
Right on glad you liked it. I went salmon fishing on Lake Ontario about 8 years ago. And ya those metal place can’t help to much in the cold. Take care thanks for watching.
When you come back to a place where you haven't been in a while, you're older, some people are gone, new people have come in and the memories that come back. There's something special about it. I rode a sled just a few times. I had an 82 Polaris, I think it was an Indy 400 or 440. The one time when I got it out into deep enough snow and had it plane up on top was really weird but it was also awesome. It was a hot minute until I had myself and the sled sorted but I managed to not lose it. I don't know beans about a sled but that thing really seemed to rip! Someone put it away with a carb and tank full of fuel and I got it for taking it out of their way. A little cleaning and Man did that thing run! I'm going to check your channel out for more on this old John Deere. This was a proper adventure!
Very true and yes glad you liked it. I was wanting to hurry up and get it before the snow got to deep. I’m glad I went it was a fun adventure and a trip down memory lane.
Back in 1998 i brought a new artic cat zrt600. Ran it for 2 winters fast and fun. Stored it in my dads. Basement. When i went into the service. In 2020 my father passed away. Clean out his house and under the tarp was the sled and a note that said. Heres a 100$ enjoy life take it for a ride dated 2019. At 63 now. Its a fun ride just still to dam fast. Has 700 miles on it. It still out run. Alot of new sleds.
Yes those ZRT’s were fast. I had one as well. I can still remember the broshure Arctic Cat had on those. It was that sled sitting in an old garage and they had the engine hanging from a chain fall. They sounded awesome as well. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
I have a 1993 Polaris panther. 440. My dad and I found in the middle of no where.... Miles from anything. We watched for 3 years. No one came by no one messed with it. We took it home called in the vin (2016) it wasn't reported stolen. And we were in a sense told to keep till the original owner called. He ended up getting in contact with us. Said the sled had a blown motor and that's why he left it. (It looked brand new from the 90's) my dad explained we got it to start after a new plug and gas. The guy didn't believe us and said we could have it. Later 2020 we went to a park and we're scooting around and the guy came up and said no way we had his old machine and it ran awesome. After 5k miles we still beat it up. I just threw a new track on it and carbs and it just keeps going.
Awesome stuff, you Canadians got some balls. I wouldn't went out there by myself. I just ordered your flag to fly in support of the protesters. Headed to Ambassador bridge Friday to plug her up.
Haha your last line on your comment made me laugh. I have to say I admire someone who stands up for what they believe in no matter what side of the fence you are on. Cheers and thanks for watching.
Just watched part 1 and this one. Pretty cool. Down here in Indiana. Still do quading and 3 wheeling, been 3 wheeling since 1978. Did you ever get that snowmobile running?
Awesome! You must have been one of the first to experience three wheelers. Fun machines for sure! I’ll have to research Indiana ATV trails and see what kind of country you folks have up there. No never got it running yet I’m still collecting parts. I better get on it though lots of people wanting to see it back in Action I think. Thanks for watching.
Hi this is Lorraine and Ray from Edmonton Alberta Canada and we watched your video were avid Snowmobilers and we can’t figure out why you left your machine out there so long have fun ride man
I put it there with the intention of going back within a couple months to get it. Life happened and I forgot about it. I bought a new snowmobile 4 years later and never played with the old vintage ones all those years. Then I recently had the itch to get back into vintage snowmobiles and remembered about that old sled. Thanks for watching.
We are in Alberta Canada here not Thunder Bay but it’s funny you say that because when I drive through Thunder Bay I often think it resembles Alberta in some ways. Must be all the trees. Thanks for watching.
@@Indeewoods - This is just a feeling. It reminded me when I was young and doing bad deeds. I would do it alone (no witness allowed); I would take calculated risks (like getting stuck); I would do it when there is nobody around (at night, weekdays); and I would act audaciously (no fear). By the way, I snowmobile off trails (alone) in the Appalachians with my Bombardier Elan so I agree with your quest for light weight. The Spitfire's direct drive reduces weight but that gain is lost because it uses a heavier 2-cyl engine. A Yamaha or Rotax single would be nice, in my opinion.
Lol well we weren’t doing any bad deeds here just good ones. Yes it is calculated risk with everything that people do in life I’m always cruising around the mountains by myself I’ve been doing it for almost 25 years so I’m no stranger to it sometimes I have a friend but often not. The Spitfire was the latest sled of its time at 275 pounds. All they used was two cycle engines in all those sleds so it’s as light as you can get being how it doesn’t have a fan. Single cylinder air cooled would be slightly lighter though you’re right. Thanks for watching.
This is neat. Ive lived all my 41 years in west Tennessee, so we dont have any use for those down here. Ive never even seen a snowmobile in person i dont think, but they are pretty cool. Great videos.
Thanks. Ya it’s interesting how people live so diferently depending on where you are located on this big planet. I’d love Tennessee right now as i wake up to almost -40 degree cold here. Lol
A guy wasn’t sure what he was in for here, he figured maybe a guys hair was turning grey and threw a nice sled back there and it’d maybe fire up after all that time but even when it was a project sled seeing something that belonged to you when you didn’t have much sure probably felt great and it was well worth watching and great to hear the interesting stories
@@Indeewoods sweet! I’m gonna watch that one too! I love finding old sleds out in the bushes never know what’s out there. I found a bunch last spring in the bushes of scorpions, moto skis, skiroules, and a elan and only 5 minutes away from the house lol. Wish I took my video camera and made a video on it.
@@fouledplugsbluesmokegarage6585 I subscribed to your channel you are at 30 now lol. I think I’m only 10 higher at 40. We are in the money now friend!!! Haha
You bet yes totally agree a great kids sled. The industry needs more tiny sleds like that for the younger crowd. Thanks for watching. Feel free to tell us some Spitfire stories like if you ever siezed it up from it getting to hot. I think that’s how this sled quite running.
@@Indeewoods the engine was never seized! It was cosmetically near mint. We had to replace the plywood on the bottom of the seat, new track and drive wheels/bearings. Hardest part was welding up the drive shaft and having it turned down because the bearings were so shot. It was great for pulling toboggans or gt snoracers. I could also run late in the season on the drifts on a creek through our farm because it was so light. Great memories. Cheers from Niagara, Ontario.
Well that’s good I was wondering how reliable these engines would be. I think as long as they don’t idle to long on warmer days they should be fine. Time will tell I guess lol
You Knooks are just crazy enough to restore that old ski and you will do it and she will ride again. I had a friend God rest his soul who was just like you named Ralph Nelson from Edmonton Alberta and he was then handiest guy you ever met. He told a story about leaving his lights on out in the woods and came back and his truck wouldn't start. He sat and thought for a while of what he could do and finally had an idea. He took the belt off his alternator and his bar off of his chainsaw. Looped the belt around the drive clutch of his chainsaw and spun his alternator with his chainsaw engine until it charged his battery and off he drove!!!. Canadians are the best of people!!
That’s awesome!! I will keep that trick in mind. About two years ago my power steering pump pulley failed on my Jeep while I was out in the mountains with no cell service. Long story short I was able to drive for a while until my battery died and then I tried spinning my alternator but I couldn’t spin it fast enough to really charge the battery. I think I had my chainsaw with me so if I would have known I could’ve tried that trick lol.
@@Indeewoods well, I live in eastern Canada, soi know cold. My 3 1/2 year old sonim xp8 has been a trooper. Battery lasts for 2 days consistently. Cold or heat doesn't bother it. The only downside is that it doesn't take good quality videos.
Lmao my neighbour friend had one he had steel cleats on the track he was broke down more than he was sledding awesome video it was on hell of a machine when they came out compared to the other sleds at it’s time
My brother had a 440Liquifire that was a fast, agile sled for the day. Before that he had a JDX4. We had lots of fun on those sleds. My first sled was a 1991 Mach 1 with the 617cc. Rotax, what a sled. Too crippled up to ride anymore, sure miss it.
That’s cool. I remember going to see those 617 Mach 1’s on the showroom floor wondering how snowmobiles could ever get any better. Thanks for watching.
I used to have an old alouet sled.. I believe that was a Canadian sled.. old 76 scorpion whip.. boy that old whip was fast guys used to Grass drag race that thing.. old 90s Polaris Indies triple 650 s..sold them all with an enclosed trailer dirt cheap when I left New York back in 2014... I still got my old race cars I got a 66 Pontiac tempest bought that when I was 19 and 55 years old now so bad that car what 36 37 38 years.. bought it back in '86... Still drive it today..and I got a 78 Grand LeMans half back big tire car I bought back about 4 or 5 years ago... Old boats had a 1967 I believe it was hydradine look like Batman's boat man had wings on it with a big scoop on a motor cover... That was back in the good old days..again man it's been a pretty cool little trip with you man thanks for posting it
Lol sorry to disappoint. I have to find the parts before I can put it back together. You have to remember it’s a 40 year old snowmobile parts are not easy to come by. Thanks for watching.
P.S- You Tube is brutal at deleting my viewers comments. That is NOT me doing it. Any kind of links or things like that and their system senses that it’s S p A m.
Like I say in the video I had a work experience kid working for me at the time. The engine was siezed though when we got it but the kid did have to take some of it apart like the muffler so he could paint it. Thanks for watching.
Lol that’s a good question. I don’t know but I’ve always been like that I guess. Sometimes I get out there early and sometimes it’s late. I certainly didn’t plan it or do it in the dark to be sneaky it was nothing like that just simply got late in the day and I wasn’t ready to turn back yet. Thanks for watching.
Get a nice thick tall boy koozie and if you want cut a square out for the camera. That way it stays insulated to the cold air. I always put my phones in koozies when im going to be cold and wet during the winter
Yep I had everything but a winch but I did have a jack all, slings, cable and I’m doing this kind of stuff every other day so things can happen but I usually lnow my limits. Thanks for watching.
What condition is that Cleated track in? If its toast you might be able to make one out of belting, and use carriage bolts with rubber caps as teeth for the drive cogs to grab.
The track is done. Where would i get belting for that and roughly what cost you think? I was thinking this sled is going to get built with a different engine, longer track etc. If so I’d probably change the drivers and go with a modern track. An old school mountain mod sled lol. I’m not into stock rebuilds in the area i’m in as we are riding fresh snow no groomed trails. That would be a great chassis to start with because it is super leight and it’s direct drive so no chaincase to fail or the extra weight of it. I have an Suzuki (Arctic Cat) 340 fan sitting in the engine compartment and will not be that hard at all to make it work.
@@Indeewoods The issue with swapping the engines on the dd jd sleds is the clutch and the mounting, the comet clutchs haven't work as well as the stock dd clutchs in My Experience, i think they were just designed to work in different applications, if you were to drill new mounting holes for a different engine you'd have to mount it keeping the drive belt slack in mind. We have a pile of old Thrashing Belting on the farm, i don't know what it goes for now. If you're going to pull a suspension rack off another sled i think the polaris Xtra 10 suspension works, there's a guy on youtube that did a swap on a JD Liquifire. I'd suggest looking for an old JD 400 or 300 with the Solid rubber tracks they last Forever, best of luck with your project though!
I would just use the stock Comet clutches this sled came with. It’s a smaller primary clutch and larger secondary (driven) clutch than most because of it being direct drive. They are a super easy drive clutch to calibrate and work on I don’t see me having any issues there. Time will tell I guess. As for the rear suspension I will just leave it stock. I like to keep everything as light and as close to stock components as I can. If I start adding heavier suspension etc then I feel i’ll have more of a mid 90’s heavy sled and I don’t want that. Basically i’m trying to do things to these sleds to nake them go good in deep snow. Hopefully I can get at it soon and make some vids.
That’s cool! Ya they are just air cooled so they run hot if it’s not to cold out or if you are moving at slow speeds. You fuel mixure could be to lean as well. Try richening it up and see what happens.
Now that’s 4 wheeling! Great video dude. Reminded me of my days sledding on an old 1969 Snow Cruiser (which I think you could buy through Sears or Eatons catalogues) This was fun to watch Cheers from Ontario
so cool you found it also not sure what you were going through in teh time so i cant judge but i wouldve brought them with me once i left can you go find teh other sleds?
@kollinspencer847 I wasn’t going through anything I just didn’t have a place/garage to store them as I was living out of my motorhome did you watch part one? It explains the whole story in there. And what are you talking about the other sleds? What other sleds?
@kollinspencer847 oh yes, that’s right yes I did have a couple of snowmobiles out there but I had retrieve them years ago. This one was out there for 12 years lol As for the old ski, Daddler, I actually have a video of me driving that thing up to this little cabin. You should check it out. I think it’s called I rode a vintage snowmobile to a cabin or something like that. It’s probably in my playlist under vintage snowmobile‘s
@@213madd9 They wouldn’t have access to any more parts than I do. I am looking for harder to find parts that no dealer can get you just have to find people that have them on ebay or those vintage sled sites.
Really cool video my friend I really wish you had pictures of your camper on that Hilltop before they had logged it what a shame they had to rob that area from you
Thanks glad you liked it. I have all kinds of pictures and video of it parked on that hill. Stay tuned for those videos. Some old sleds in those vids as well. They didn’t rob me of the area because the pulp mill is allowed to log there and honestly there are bazillions of places to camp in this whole area so I wasn’t to disapointed. I’ll explain it all one day in a future video. Thanks for watching.
"I don't want to scratch it up" ....but you left it sitting in the woods for 12 years uncovered. That's kinda....opposite. And, it wasn't hidden, it was just parked.
Thanks for the confirmation on that. Lol Well it was under a bunch of trees hidden from the air the idea was to just put it there for a month or so then go get it but life happened and I sort of forgot about it. Hidden, parked call it what you want I guess.
Very same thing can be said about almost any machine over 20 years old. Worth fixing the old shit cos once its put right it tends to last forever. No emmissions or epa crap to hinder performance. That aside, old machines and vehicles are all kinds of cool
@@Indeewoods perfect thanks you should do a video of going to check out a plane that crashed up there. Apparently there’s some trails you can hike to get up to it. Just an idea.
The engine was siezed and not running when I put it there all those years ago it would never run the way it was but i’ve been gathering parts to make it live to fight another day. It will ride again. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching.
@@Indeewoods One more question,,The Belt drive on the snow machine,Has no one ever thought or tried to change it to a chain drive,And if so why not ? I watch the show "Mountain Men" over here on the Discovery channel and it struck me that when some of the people on the show break a belt when out setting trails for beaver and Martin they have to walk for miles back their cabin if they do not have an extra belt with them,If it was me I'd be modifying the machine and once modified the first thing I would do is Patent my design,Thank you for your time and help with my questions,Damien in Maghera
A CVT belt system is what these are so a chain could never work. At least not this style design. Drive belts are very reliable the problem is you either need to go or not go and some people driving these drive to slow taking off and that burns the belt. The only reason I could see someone not packing a spare belt is if they like to walk lol
You didn’t cover it? Or put it on a pallet?…..empty out the gas or drain the carbs? Putting them on a pallet really saves on the undercarriage. And an old tarp or two. ….anyway.
The carb/tank was completely drained, I originally had a 2x4 holding up the track off the ground and it had a cover over it. Mother nature took care of the cover and 2x4. This was a sled that hadn’t ran for many years before I put it there. My notes say I got it in the winter of 2005. It’s in the same shape it was back then the only thing is it has moss on it now. I had brand new slides sitting on the running board and they had got brittle and cracked so the tarp must have worn away years ago.
No the sled was given to me buy someone that had it given to him. He didn’t know how to fix it the cylinders/crank were trashed but the chassis was/is pretty good.
What would you consider a life line? I had a way to make a fire, all kinds of wood laying around, I had warm clothes,I always have a can of beans in the truck somewhere, there are all kinds of rabbits and grouse in that area if I’m really desperate so I think was fairly prepared as I always am. Been going out alone like that for over 20 years so i’m certainly no stranger to surviving out there if need be. Thanks for watching.
It never had a seat when I got it and I had it covered with a tarp that monther nature claimed. Lol This is an old junker sled it’s not like it was a brand new sled. Lol Thanks for watching.
Yes I edited that video or tried to but it hasn’t finished yet. I didn’t know music playing in the back ground would be an issue. I don’t understand it these record companies are shooting themselves in the foot they should be paying me for promoting their song but I guess they don’t think that way. Thanks for watching.
@@Indeewoods ex pat in heyfiel australia. Heart of timber country. Of course the greenies and the lib govt. are trying to shut down the timber industry. Grew up in ontario. Alex.
Well if you are going to leave a negative comment like that at least go on and tell me why you think it wasn’t to smart. Lol P.s I used to live in Little Britain.
Haha great comparison lol. And how was it left there for “junk”. It was neatly placed. Lol We are in Canada with hundreds of thousands of miles of solid bush. I pick up more garbage in this entire area then anyone I know. Always cleaning up the back country. Regardless the video is just to tell the story. Thanks again for watching. Consider subscribing if you want to see more adventures. I promise there won’t be anymore items that I left in the landscape because that was the only one lol.
I had a old free air arctic cat when I was a kid if it wasn’t that cold out I would run it without the hood to keep it cool lol still had lots of fun. I love the old sleds
