All of this is interesting information and all, but I feel like it could have been handled a bit more maturely. If I were hired to work on a show I wouldn't want it to be because I'm an ethnically Jewish Latina mix female. I would want it to be because I'm good at what I do. I just want to write my story about a cartographer wandering a science fantasy world. I personally see no issue putting homosexual characters in a show if it feels natural and planned. The characters need to feel like characters first. But my biggest gripe is that some of these characters come off as token gay who can do no wrong. Your character should own their sexuality, not the other way around. I think the fact that some of these shows dont do that is far more worse and harmful then sneaking in a gay kiss

EVERYTHING mentioned in this video is shit that I have said for years and one of the big reasons I tell people not to apply for CN jobs. I wasn't trying to discourage them but given the history and patterns that CN has with it's staff, I knew it would be a waste of time since they don't actually *HIRE* people but rather just recycle people they know from show to show. I called this shit out LAST YEAR when I saw the line up of the 2017-2018 line up, and it was just people who had worked on new shows. The only new show that CN has that sort of breaks this, even though they could be considered alum at this point given how many shows they've worked on, is Megaman which is headed by Man of Action (MoA). HOWEVER, of all the new shows THIS is possibly one of the best and is given the shit treatment of being only aired at 6 am on SUNDAYS while CN clogs up their airways with the usual shit we are known for them to do. I also knew about the Tumblr shit as well. I knew they were hiring Tumblr artist based on their FOLLOWINGS and POPULARITY, mostly connected to what they said that was flavor-of-the-day on the site, and NOT for their skill. I actually contacted someone who worked on a CN show about 3-4 years ago and gave them a link to what was at the time my art Tumblr which only had a few things on it. The 'suggestion' he gave me was that the lines were too thick and things were too detailed. That's all he said, no other pointers or suggestions. Now...'the lines were too thick and things were too detailed' Take that in.....look at everything that airs on CN right now. And yeah, it's only about the style THEY want, not about actual TALENT. But yeah, been there done that. Saw this shit coming on Tumblr all the way back in 2010. And like I said; I knew kids don't like Steven Universe. The show has nothing for them and is just 15 minuets of a boy crying along with this dumb-ass shit rocks. Compare this to a show like Ladybug, Avatar, or something as simple as Ben 10 (the original) Boy and girls flocked to these shows because they had action, story, cool looking characters, but most of all ACTION. Steven Universe looks ugly, avoids actions, tries to put off its one-lines as comedy and has absolutely NO STORY thanks in part to the crew not knowing how to construct anything given the only thing they care about is showing off how gay these fucking rocks are. The biggest defenders of SU are older teens and adults all the while kids either hate it or don't even know it exist. Sugar can hide behind the whole 'IT'S FOR KIDS' thing all she wants but she knows. She fucking knows. But Jesus. I still want to be a storyboard artist. I still want to be a story writer but....WHY? Why are they letting people like this in? They obviously don't care about animation as a means of art or telling a story, they just pile in a massive circle jerk of shit and with the exception of one or two shows, make ABSOLUTE SHIT. I know this is old, but Memow was a fans drawing sent into Cartoon Network and tuned into an actual character. She was drawn by a literal CHILD. If I remember correctly, Cartoon Network started a contest and Memow won.

I'm pretty sure that Ian J. Quartey was working on The Venture Brothers LONG before Sugar OR Adventure Time were even in the industry. I knew of him when he went to college and eventually stopped publishing his "RPG World" and "Ian Comics" webcomics. Considering he was in the final act of his RPG World Comic, the fact he abandoned it was pretty unprofessional though I can forgive him if he really was important to The Venture Bros.

When I looked up the claim about the character Me-Mow, I saw no sources that confirmed there was 1) a contest about the character appearing on the show at all, every single source on the first five top results pages of google (those that were relevant by searching with quotes like "gunnar gilmore" "me mow" "pendleton ward character stealing" "adventure time character contest" etc etc) just says that Gunnar Gilmore and/or his mom sent the drawing into CN Studios and it was adapted, 2) nothing about the mental capability of the kid who originally drew Me-Mow is mentioned at all, 3) There was no controversy or payoff done by the studio recorded in any public venue? The only source I found for this cited THIS SPECIFIC VIDEO and it was on an amino. Idk, close evaluation of this seems to show that this source exaggerates or slanders just cuz. Ok, so obviously there's some backlash to this video, which prompted me to do some digging of my own, and what I found [my primary source being a desuarchive discussion board, so you can imagine the headache] is that the man interviewed is named Luke Weber, creator of the 'Bikini Cowgirl' graphic novel, and he apparently hasn't been blacklisted from the industry, but presumably said he did in an attempt to sway suspicion towards him to keep him from getting blacklisted [good luck with that] From what I saw he's apparently something of a creep who can be hard to work with sometimes and did some self-shipping artwork of him and Pearl from SU, as well as pursuing a romantic interest with one of his coworkers and apparently projecting that onto Pearl. Alright, fair enough; so he's a creep and is probably saying all of this because he's bitter towards everyone else. *_HOWEVER_*, throughout the discussion board I couldn't find any sources that could debunk the claims of the other people; literally all I could find were linked sources confirming some stuff about Weber, NOTHING debunking any claims about everyone getting a job because they've all dated each other or Alex Hirsch's alleged STD or whatever. So at best all that's confirmed is Weber's identity and that he's not too clean himself. But that doesn't mean that he's lying; he may be a slimy sewer rat with tons of his own $#@%, but everyone's $#@% ends up in the sewer eventually, so its only inevitable that he'd bring some of it with him, I'm just saying. I don't know how much of this is exaggerated [although I highly suspect Hirsch's pooping in a bucket is fabricated, at best just a running joke coworkers had that was never actually true] but in regards to not hiring people who are better qualified, given the 'quality' of Steven Universe I am inclined to believe that there is an amount of unprofessionalism going on and people who work there are having fun more than actually making cartoons of better quality [Illumination Pictures apparently treats it's staff incredibly well, but on the other hand its still Illumination Pictures we're talking about, so at least take that into consideration] From what I'm seeing in the comments section, this video confirms what a lot of people have been saying for the last few years. I would say that Artists getting hired because they went to school with someone or knew someone was as common back in the 80's and 90's as it is today, it's just that today you have the internet to get noticed and I think that's a positive thing! I don't doubt that large parts of the animation industry are very cliquey but this video felt a bit like it wanted to character assassinate all these Artists.
