I'm glad you found the Oxford interview - that was really cool. One thing you missed was Page's obscure score he recorded for the movie Lucifer Rising in 1972. He was approached by the movie director, and Page invited him to stay at Boleskine House. Page recorded the entire score, but it was never used. You can find it on RU-vid. It's quite odd and ritualistic.

Really good, Moosh. Very interesting and the opening sequence cracked me up! British bands like Black Sabbath and Black Widow also explored/exploited the occult, magic and mysticism in the early 70's and far more explicitly than Led Zeppelin. I think your concluding remarks are absolutely right: they played with the symbols of magic/ occult but it hardly became integral to the music. What they got up to in their spare time is another matter! And their own business. Worth pointing out, as you did dive deeply into this, is that quite a few American blues artists and I'm thinking specifically, Robert Johnson, wrote lyrics featuring the devil and hellhounds etc and often seemed to be caught in a genuine battle between good and a very real sense of evil... and Zep did pilfer the blues as we all know. Just an observation -The book beside Crowley has the pentagram that is not inverted like the satanist use it , I am not into that stuff at all but I like Zep .... Your videos are great. Really. I Jimmy Page practices Sigil Magic at a very high level. For example: The Sigils from Led Zep 4. One each for members of the band, as well as one for their back up singer. The band Sigils were the ones he used. For starters, Jimmy knew exactly what he wanted. This is the first step to effective Magic. Jimmy had two suits which he wore for shows during one of the tours. One in white and one in black. These are the ones with the Dragons on them. I believe that these suits were a gift from a female fan who also knew her stuff. I think it is on the left side of the zipper of the pants, there are embroidered symbols. Pages Sun sign, Ascending sign, and Moon sign. The sigils were activated by projecting sexual energy from that part of his body, through the guitar, into the music. and projected into the audience. A brilliant application of True Sigil Magic. Very admirable. I have made it work for me, as others have.

The kind of “occult” things discussed here, Order of the Golden Dawn, Aleister Crowley, etc is just objectively interesting. Not only were these free thinkers at a time when the church had much more power to ruin lives and were more than happy to do so, but they were explorers. Today we are starting to have people who are exploring and challenging traditional “mental paradigms” so to speak through things like meditation, a constructive use psychedelics, etc. This “mysticism”, or “occult”, a combination of Eastern and Western mysticism, was similar. Simple-minded people raised in the brainwashing of religion think that the dogma is the relevant point here. A lot of these people were actually atheist or agnostic and didn’t actually or necessarily believe in gods and devils and demons. It was more like a combination of Eastern meditation techniques and rituals the purpose of which, with their “drama” and ceremony, was to impress ideas upon the subconscious, being that the subconscious isn’t receptive to being spoken to directly in plain language but is more receptive more dramatic and ceremonious forms of “communication” to sort of drive ideas into it. They were mainly interested in achieving higher states of consciousness and accessing the genius of the subconscious and unconscious. In many cases they “trolled” the religious people with this sort of allegory of spiritualism they used to describe these processes. If you’re childish enough to still believe in devils and demons then you can take the simpleton approach that they were trying to summon power from these evil forces. That probably would have amused them. Plus this kind of superstitious, simple-mindedness can actually be useful to people operating from more “enlightened” states of consciousness, just so long as religious cretins and bullies aren’t trying to kill or torture you in the name of Jesus.

For Jimmy Page to have such a keen interest in all things Crowley, and buying that Boleskine House on Loch Ness, owning the bookstore, I have no doubt he at least dabbled in occult rituals and if you listen to how he answers questions, he never really gives a straight forward answer. To me, that is a dead give away. So basically for me, I have never liked his belief system, because he makes excuses for it, doesn't answer the questions clearly, but I love his music.
