If you're better with irons and struggling to find the dot it means you're used to being sight focused instead of target focused. With irons most people find the front sight then superimpose that onto their target. with a red dot you should just be focused on the target and moving the dot to where you're looking. If you occlude your dot (Tape over the front with painters tape) and go run these drills you'll quickly learn how to pick up that dot instantly every time. Target focused with both eyes open and your brain will superimpose the dot onto the target without you having to think about it. It teaches you how to move the dot to your line of sight (which is focused on the target) instead of moving your vision to the dot and then having to superimpose that onto the target like you're doing with iron sights.
@Spoodabandit
@Spoodabandit 6 месяцев назад
Great advice love the tape idea I’ve heard this before but not a in depth explanation to why it’d be so helpful. Now I’m going to have to try it for myself it makes sense I’ve noticed that myself being target focused with red dots does make everything much easier

Mat I hate to hear you call this a boring video for ANYONE! This is something that this channel NEEDS MORE of. Our 2nd amendment right will be self defended if more people take weapon systems more seriously and show them as tools rather than toys. It's a great thing to see a gun-toober that mostly does comedy with his weapon content also doing this serious stuff as well as training. Any responsible weapon owner will tell you safety first, practice and proficiency second, fun last, even the most seasoned weapon owner will tell you to never forget that. Instructor seems good. Explains things and gives cues that most people can reference within space and he can make minute adjustments in body position on his students. He has a trait I can’t explain that I became aware of when teaching traditional martial arts years ago. Progressing thru perfecting the details starting with foot position in order to translate to stance, in order to find balance and the base for everything…and maintaining the foundations as you build upon each element while having the ability to explain things in the right way, and having the ability to recognize what the right way is for different students.

I doubt Matt will ever see this, but if you want to get glitter out of the stippling, use an ultrasonic cleaner. The cavitation will blow it out of the little holes.

i was going to recommend the same thing. Either that or use a high pressure steam blaster like jewelers use.

the reason you have problems looking for the dot is because of your grip when you grip the gun the barrel points down so you want to focus on establishing your grip when you drawl so it doesn’t nose dive before you shoot

Try using a shoe shine brush to get glitter off your grip. Or some packaging tape. Love the intro. Can’t believe you keep coming up with such awesome intro ideas. Also ❤ the free training. Should be a regular thing. This trainer is so clear, relatable, explains well and why. Great job all around as usual Matt.

I was going to suggest a lint roller. The instructor should get free range time in exchange for advice on range set-up and classes.

I'm really happy to see Matt having trouble with the red dot sights! I've struggled with them for a while myself, it just doesn't feel as natural to me as iron sights. But being a bit north of midlife, I suppose that'd make me an old dog with red dot sights being the new trick. ahh well, in time I'll learn it and break that old saying about old dogs and new tricks! lol

Not boring at all. I learnt a couple of things and the officers seemed to be having some fun. I am sure they can see your vision for the new range. Always smart to have the good guys on your side and to have a place where they can train and have fun.
