Maybe the last queen was an aggressive species. My guess is African bees. Introducing a more docile species would result in that Queen producing more like offspring as the old ones die off. That was my understanding.

Yes the bees gain the genetic traits from the queen mother.. a docile queen will produce docile bees. Placing a docile queen in an aggressive hive after dispatching the old queen takes time to take effect. Could be anywhere from 45 to 60 days before the hive has been completely replaced by the new docile bees. But that’s if they accept the new queen and they won’t necessarily.. or they may decide to kill the docile queen if there are any old queen cells that produced another aggressive queen which they consider superior. You would want to make sure to remove any queen cells that came from the old aggressive queen, so a thorough check is necessary. These aggressive bees mostly came from Africa due to a failed experiment in North America. Aggressive bees are obviously more dangerous but they are excellent honey making machines. So someone brought the aggressive African bees to North America in an attempt to mate them with the docile European bees in the hopes of creating a hybrid bee with the work ethic of the aggressive bees but the docile nature of the calmer European bees. Needless to say the experiment failed.. the aggressive bees took over the hives and then swarmed away spreading their aggressive genes. They are excellent at taking over docile hives and turning them aggressive. And there is an effort in the USA to stop the spread as much as possible, and to make sure these Africanized bees do not take over docile hives.
