The Hebridean beach airport requires another point to check on your checklist. If the tide is in, one cannot land! I had to stop private flying due to ill health, and ten years later, I still really miss it.
I have an Uncle who was a Missionary in Papua New Guinea.. I remember seeing photos of all the places he travelled to, but I believe it was only ground travel.. not by Air ! He now lives in Brisbane.. Great Videos Bud !
Absolutely beautiful place, I especially like the airstrip you were departing from. Best job in the world. I wish I could fly. I’m just an aerospace engineer in San Diego California.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Flight, Missionary Bush Pilot! 👍 What a beautiful strip! I totally get why THAT was on your Bucket List, my Friend! God Bless, Safe Flights & Keep the Blue Side up! 🙏
If you like the water to water strips you should go to Shelter Cover in California, 0Q5. We made a family trip up there once and AOPA mag had it on its cover in late 90/2000 timeframe. No problem getting the Cessna 340A in and out.
Love your videos. Some of the voices on ATC are becoming quite familiar. Any chance of introducing them to the camera? It would be great to "meet" them and the ATC operation.
Very great video as always ! thank you very much for sharing and with such humility and professionalism. That being said, I have a question. I've noticed that you are flying quite "low" and I understand the reasons. But I was wondering if there would be any consideration to fly higher to mitigate problems in case of engine failure. I'm not a pilot, but just doing some flight sim once in a while. But even in flight sim, I would be "scared" to limit my options by flying low in case of an engine failure in such terrain. So I was just curious what are you considerations and planning regarding the choice of altitude. Again thank you very much for all the great videos. I'm really a fan !
Love your vids from New Zealand. Ordered coffee table book as a gift to an elderly ex PNG Missionary friend. Suggest website has different details for payer and addressee. Payment details embarrassingly sent for what was supposed to be an anonymous gift.
I'm a little bit jealous but am planning to visit Saint Pierre et Miquelon fairly soon using the ferry from Fortune in Newfoundland. Did you have to clear immigration on arrival in France is this a transatlantic domestic flight? Great video as always. Cheers!
I was on a commercial flight last week and they loaded the majority of the fuel into the wrong side. Took about 45 minutes to transfer fuel to re-balance.
Oh, so sorry to disappoint you, but I know and have been to, an even better beach airport. You actually land on the beach and is the only scheduled beach landing in the world. It is Barra Airport in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland.
I’ve flown into barra twice. Once with my friend and once with my dad. Can confirm it’s the most incredible landing experience you’ll ever have. I took a PA28 there
Ryan, I know this question has nothing to do with aviation, but how long did it take you to adjust to Celsius coming from America? Do you have to convert it back to Fahrenheit in your head or do you just know it at this point?
PNG is about the size of California, add this island as well, that's the size of TWO California's. In all of PNG, only about 30 aircraft are flying. I can guarantee with 100% certainty, zero other aircraft will be within 50 miles of me.
Hey Ryan, I went to your website to buy your book, but shipping to Australia is almost as much as the book itself, which makes it a tad excessive. If you can find a publisher or printer here in the Land of Oz, it would bring the price down significantly. Just sayin'.
Why do RU-vidr need to use superlatives all the time? More clicks most likely but who believes it ? Better title: hyper mega airport in the whole universe:)
