That building is Railway museum (Железнички музеј). When you mentioned the White Army, there are a lot of things that might be interesting to you if you like history because you are from Russia. Since 1920, the government of the Kingdom of SHS welcomed lot of anti-Bolshevik Russian refugees, mainly those under General Pyotr Wrangel in Crimea in November 1920, it was a gesture of hospitality by paying back the debt Serbia owed Russia for the latter's intervention on the side of Serbia at the outbreak of WWI as well as the reception of Serbian refugees from the Ottomans and the Austrian Empire in the Russian Empire, more precisely today's Ukraine Donbass and the Kirovograd region. In 1921, at the invitation of the Serbian Patriarch Dimitrije, the leadership of the Russian Church in exile moved from Constantinople/Istanbul (or as in Serbian Carigrad/Цариград) to Serbia. It is interesting that due to the request of the Russian émigrés Kingdom of Yugoslavia, did not recognize the USSR as a state until it became communist after the Second World War, but only recognized Russia. The Russian community in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was effectively in a privileged position in a number of ways, as it enjoyed support and protection. Since they were highly educated people, they made an invaluable contribution to the development of the then Yugoslav science, art and architecture as a token of gratitude to Serbia. In that period, the first Ruski Dom (Russian Center for Science and Culture) in Belgrade was opened. The Russians left their architectural mark on the most important places in Belgrade today: on the corner of Nemanjina and Kneza Milos street, in the area around the National Assembly, in the part of the University Center around Cyril and Methodius Park (better known as "Park near Vuk's Monument"), Sava Promenade The grand staircase on Kalemegdan, the palace of the Patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Palace of King Alexander I in Dedinje, the Main Post Office Building, etc. The most important Russian architect in Belgrade was Nikolai Krasnov and Grigorij Samojlov. Belgrade expressed its gratitude to Krasnov by erecting a monument in the Manege Park, and one street is named after "Nikola Krasnov" and there is a memorial plaque to the Russian builder without whom Belgrade would not be as it is today. At the age of only 24, Krasnov was appointed as the main city architect of Yalta, in the Crimea, where he built representative buildings for the nobility and cultural elite. The most important building he built there was the imperial residence - Livadia Castle, the summer house of Tsar Nicholas I, which is still attractive today, and in which the Crimean Conference was held in 1945 with the participation of Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin. Enjoying a great reputation in Russia, he received the title of architect and academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. His career in Crimea ended with the October Revolution after which he arrived in Belgrade. You will probably be interested in The Church of the Holy Trinity, also called the Russian Church where General Baron Wrangel is buried. Since it is located near the building of the Radio Television of Serbia, the temple suffered serious material damage in the bombing in 1999, and the renovation began the following year. Nikolai Nikolayevich Raevsky (Colonel), grandson of the famous General Nikolai Raevsky, a hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, served the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy as a prototype for the main character, Count Vronsky, in his work "Anna Karenina". He came as a volunteer in the Serbian-Turkish war. At the place where he died in Gornji Adrovac, the Church of the Holy Trinity was built (1903), popularly known as the colorful church or the church of love or the Russian church. From the road to the entrance to the temple, linden trees stand out (Holy Slavic tree) which were brought from the village of Razumovska in Ukraine, from the former estate of Count Rajevski, here the brotherhood of Serbs and Russians is immortalized.

Привет Max! I'm an Italian who is struggling learning Russian, I discovered your channel only a couple weeks ago... I wished I found it sooner! I've been trying to learn Russian for the past 3 years and I've done more improvements in these 3 weeks than in those 3 years, also thanks to your videos. I could understand the sense of your video and I was so happy!! I get what you say about having a "vocation" or purpose as you call it, I've been really struggling to find mine - I'm a doctor and I'm almost at the end of my studies but, just like you, I've been told many times that I'm really good at teaching things. Long story short, it is always nice to hear that we are not alone in our struggles, even if I'm in a much more comfortable place than you are. I hope all the best for you and Julia :)

Just wanted to address anyone, such as the person Max mentioned, who think that leaving Russia right now is for comfort of any sort. Emigration is never, ever an easy choice, especially if you have to leave family behind and Max has - his parents, brother, grandmother and his son. Heart wrenching. And financially, as he said, this is the worst possible time for Russians abroad. Max, I pray you will be able to return even before '24 and you have indeed found your calling and path. I do believe in some sort of higher force in this crazy universe and I'm just trusting that you will be supported on your path. Sending light to both you and Yulia and am so happy the two of you have each other in this chaotic time.

Serbia was always open and supportive to Russians, and it is important to mention here that during its existence within the former Yugoslavia, Serbia was outside of the Warsaw Pact, and Belgrade was and still is one of the leading centers of the Non-aligned Movement. Russians are thus welcome to Serbia from a very honest perspective which is not burdened by some difficult past of political relations among the formerly associated countries within the Warsaw Pact, like in the case of Hungary or Bulgaria and their historical relations with Russia.

You have found your place, Max. I’m sorry you cannot now live in your own country. I hope that will change. You can represent so well all the many good things of Russian culture. I found the people very kind to me in Tomsk as well as Moscow and St. Petersburg - lovely people. This is who you represent, and you can do it with pride! My only cultural difficulty was the lack of smiling when greeting strangers- doesn’t happen that way in Spain or US ( my countries).

Thanks for the video. Момент in The Russian sense is best translated as thing or point. It is the issue or matter at hand. It does not mean a moment in the temporal sense; it is not a moment in time.

You should visit one fortress that is relatively close to Belgrade :D. Relatively haha... The name is "Golubacka tvrdjava". It is a very nice place, you will love it. You are going to like Serbia but you know Serbs have their own "issues". We are free to speak our mind but we are powerless to change our own government either. The only difference is, we can talk about it but we can't do anything. People went through some serious hardships and it wont be strange to hear people complaining about life and stuff. However, Serbs will treat you well and go an extra mile to make you feel like at home. Just don't be surprised if you encounter Serbs who wholeheartedly support Putin. This is mostly because we were bullied by the west, big time so we understand everything what is going on now from different point of view. That is we do not agree with everything Russia does, but we do understand why it happened. If that makes any sense. Again, you are welcome to our humble country and hope you will enjoy there.
