Not sure how towing a 4,000 lb trailer with a Bronco that's rated for 3500 lbs can be good for the longevity of the vehicle, and I'm surprised TFL didn't call that out, as they are usually sticklers on tow capacity. Something to keep in mind for anyone else thinking about this combo.

We just got back from Alaska as well ...towing a 35ft bunkhouse travel travel, pulled by our 1 ton GM extended passenger van. We went all over Alaska, up mountain roads, partially up the Demster hwy, and boondooked all over back roads, setting up in under 10 minutes. To each their own, but I still don't know why some folks buy overpriced equipment just to use in a grossly overweight, unsafe manner. For a fraction of the cost, a traditional truck-trailer setup could have allowed for much quicker camp setups/takedowns and provided significantly more cargo carrying capacity for the rig, all without putting the road sharing public in danger. I read another comment on how the owner spent $60k on the trailer, yet avoided the measly $13 for a cat scale weigh. LoL Best comment that perfectly summed up this entire video.

Slightly overloading a truck a few times here or there isn't the end of the world, but idk about promoting pushing a vehicle way past its GVWR for multi-thousand mile trips like that. I feel bad for whomever buys that Bronco from him. He's overloading that thing like crazy for extended periods of time, and I guarantee it will eventually develop issues with components on the suspension, differential, joints, bearings, transmission, and anything else that has to cope with all that weight. He honestly should've spec'd out a 4Runner with a little more tow capacity or just went full size with a Sequoia, Tahoe, Expedition, etc.
@gsahookah599
@gsahookah599 Год назад
Regarding your recommendation that the guest should have went with a 4Runner instead of that Bronco to haul the trailer and all that gear; the towing capacity of a 2022 4Runner is only 5000 lbs. I promise you that UEV-490 sits as-is in this video at least 5200 lbs. That alone should be enough to stay away from the 4Runner, but to add salt for fun, the payload is approximately 1700 lbs. Subtract the 520 lbs for the tongue weight, and another 500 lbs for the hubby and wife, now you have 700 lbs of payload left, which has been fully used by the gear on top of and inside of the Bronco. So, forget about using a 4Runner in this scenario. I agree with you 100% that a full-size truck or SUV is the ONLY way to safely tow that much trailer and gear.
@perpelle
@perpelle Год назад
We can't offroad in europe the way you do but damn, have have so much better towing abilities for smaller vehicles. Toyota hilux is considered a mid-size in the US and that tows 7700 pounds and can carry ~2000-2200 pounds. As we don't have the same rules regarding tongue weight a 5000 pounds trailer only pushes about 200-275 pounds on the hitch. Reliability is there. Offroad-ability, check with a 1-2" lift.

This is an interesting set up, but this Bronco is seriously overloaded. That trailer is about 4,000 lbs gross weight, but it’s a bit overloaded and front heavy, so it’s got maybe 500 lbs on the hitch,,,, YIKES. He was comfortable with it though, so,,,,,,. Then says he paid the equivalent of $55,000 trading in his Wrangler Rubicon. Because there’s 20 minutes work to set up the trailer each time, he says he will leave it at home for short trips?? I would be using the h*ll out of that d*mn trailer. No way I’m sleeping out of a Bronco, or on a swaying rocking Rod Top Tent. I’m sure he will buy a quality tent so he won’t have the issues with the wind many have, but it’s a really tall unit if the winds come up. We were camping last fall and had 125 kph/80 mph winds. I was in a full size truck with a small Rayzr truck camper in it and had to move my truck to face into the wind!! That camper doesn’t even have an overhang on top of the roof of the truck!! RTTs,,,,, ughhhh. He could be so much more comfortable with the trailer. It won’t limit where he can go as it’s as capable as the Bronco (essentially). It’s his and he can use it as he likes, he knows what he wants. I just couldn’t leave a $55,000 trailer sitting while I’m out camping without it? $71,500 CAD. We have a really expensive class B van that is comparatively expensive to this trailer. Its a Mercedes 4x4 van with a Thor conversion the 19P. It’s such that I’m thinking of selling my F150 Tremor and the Rayzr camper and only driving and using the van full time. My wife doesn’t want to put all this kms on it, but I explained it doesn’t matter, it’s a diesel and there are examples out there of commercial units with 500,000 miles/800,000 kms on them! Same logic, but it’s actually purchased by my wife!! Hahaha. She has the final say. She is bending,,,,,,,, hahaha. It’s a very comfortable unit and can tow my enclosed trailer with all my fishing gear and small 10 ft Jon boat, or the 20 ft pontoon, or the Lund 1775. It does everything I would ask of the truck and if I need to haul things I have some classic trucks I can use and a couple of utility trailers I can use to haul.
