I went and looked at 100+ SaaS pricing pages, and in this video, I want to go over some of the variations, plus the pros and cons of each different model. I also have a couple of examples of companies that pivoted from one model to the other, and how the transition went.
The world of startups was essentially transformed when we figured out SaaS. When companies pivoted from a one-time sale to a monthly subscription, a whole world of possibilities was unveiled.
SaaS allows predictable revenue. It lets us estimate customer lifetime value with unprecedented accuracy. These days you can even raise capital or get a loan based on your MRR.
So let’s get to it.

SaaS models explained 1. Flat pricing (simple one time/month fee) 2. Teardown pricing(more fee with extra feature) 3. Usage based pricing(pay for usage) 4. User based pricing (number of users, team members etc)

"also try and fit this into a responsive layout" 😂 - one of the reasons I love Caya is how in tune he is with so many sides of being in a startup that he can "whisper" to a developer or a designer in a video that about marketing.

Interesting to watch as I HATE SaaS and refuse to use any product that has such a pricing model. Have been burned twice by critical SaaS services. One completely discontinued their software. The second had a 10 times price increase. Both happened with only a couple weeks notice. Both had hundreds of hours invested in learning/implementing the software.

Great vid Caya. The question I have is how to you set the initial price for a product within the right ball park? We’re about to release a product and can do the tiered pricing experiments but how do you set a price for the initial release knowing that's not a completely crazy proposition for your customers. Maybe the next vid?

Quick question or two, what was the raison for mogul to change there pricing style, what KPI they used to measure that (that need), and how they mesured the succes of such transition (more customers overall, or revenu per customer,....) and how did it affect their customer retention. Nice vid 👏

I think he mentioned in another video, don't remember which, about charging as much as you think the customer will be willing to pay, not in an exploitative way of course. Something like check your competitors, figure how your product stands against them and figure out the price from there

SaaS is good when companies offer affordable pricing...unfortunately the solutions we use is almost 50-65%% of one time payment. Now this company is holding us like a hostage as all the data we created is in their solution. Even if we want to move to other solution, we've to convert all the old data to new one...

Hey Caya, what do you know about High-End Saas Products for B2B? Our plans start around 6.000€ per month and it feels weird to show that on a webpage openly. Also I‘ve never seen it that Someone shows those high prices. We are happy to share the price in a sales call tho.

Hey Niklas, the reason why SaaS that charge over $500 don't show their pricing publicly, is because they are not Product-Led, they are Sales-Led. Their product is not self-serve and self-explanatory. They tend to have more of a unique solution, smaller market (sometimes), and therefore the need to explain the product and price it high. Since you need to get the prospect on demo/sales call, to explain everything, so the prospect can even start to see the amount of value provided properly. It would be a mistake to just plop $2K on website, since that is very out of context. You want to give the full pitch, and the price after, customized to the prospect. Also, Sales-Led pricing is rarely fixed. Both the company and the buyer are used to create customized price and negotiate. Even when there are technically premade pricing tiers, the buyer expects to negotiate. Only a schmuck would buy Salesforce licences for the full price. This is just the expected enterprise buyer dance. So fixed public pricing is pointless and misleading. If you want you can find me on GrowthMentor for a free mentoring call on pricing basics ;)
@nikzechner

@@jkuzel That's makes a lot of sense. Of course, we want to transform the model to more selfserved, to more automation soon. Thanks for the info, I hit you up on Linkedin if you want to have a digital coffee sometime :)

I work in a small startup company that has around 25 employees. Our pricing model is SaaS, this model is a blessing and a curse depending of who you are. For small companies or non profit organizations it is way too expensive and for big companies that a 1500 monthly bill is barely an inconvenience is a blessing since they don't have to deal with infrastructure. I personally work in IT and learned that there are two types of companies the ones that brace SaaS and all of their cousins (PaaS, IaaS, etc) as their savior and the other ones that run away from it like a the pest. The ones that want all on premise without no other reason than price are the ones where I don't want to work at, these are the bean counters the places where there is never budget for anything usually little to no innovation and well obviously not the best salaries. Places that can have 50k AWS bills each month, that have several different SaaS like Google workspace, jira etc. are the ones I like to work at. If I ask 40k to just burn in a POC that may not work I almost never get it denied, same for training. I want to take a 5k course and a 400 usd certification exam? sure there is an online form you only have to fill and use the corporate CC
