Jordan was averaging 39.8ppg in 12 games against Detroit, before they instituted "The Jordan Rules." Which basically, was just to mug him any time he got in the paint. In the playoffs during Detroit's back to back championships, the Pistons were 22-2 in the playoffs against all the teams NOT named Chicago Bulls...against the Bulls, they were 8-5 in those championship runs. People act like the Bulls just came on the scene in 1991...but they were in the mix as early as 1989. 1990 was there first true championship contender season though. They took Detroit to Game 7, but Pippen buckled under the pressure and gave us "The Migraine Game", that rendered him useless on the court. Pippen was 1 for 10 from the field, and scored just 2 points. The whole team shot like trash, Jordan was the only one who showed up. Jordan had 31 points on 13 for 27, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Minus Jordan, the Chicago Bull made just 15 of 63 FGs, for an awful 23.8%FG. There's a little history lesson for you. I started watching the Bulls in 1986, and watched as many games as possible. Jordan in the 1980's was an absolute beast.
Y’all severely disrespect how complicated that defense against him actually was. It’s was FAR more than just beating him up. Y’all have to stop spreading that narrative.
Dude NOW you finally get it! JORDAN was doing all of this BEFORE Ja Morant, Kyrie Irving, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Allen Iverson, James Harden and the list goes on!!! THAT'S one of the things that makes him the GOAT. Players today are doing things we have already seen MJ doing. We don't Hate Lebron and we are not saying we don't want him to be the GOAT, we are saying as of now, what we saw in the NBA when MJ was playing, we have not seen it since from another player... Kobe and LeBron are close, but not really that close to MJ..
Honestly, it cracks me up these youngsters think Ball 🏀 started in the 2000s😂😂😂.. Dominique, Clyde, Ron Harper, Kemp, JR Rider, Latrell, Grant Hill, Penny, Mike Finley, Eddie Jones, Pip we’re rim punishers…. Larry Nance…maaaaan
Jordan had a jumper. He's the best mid range shooter of all time. Shot over 50% from mid range. Lebron shoots 37% outside 3 feet and gets all his buckets down low. So just imagine MJ in todays league. All his stats would be enhanced
@Extinguish Idiot's yh I agree, LeBron coulda shoulda and woulda won more titles if not for x y and z. But that's for chumps. We're about facts, and the fact is, he's lost more finals than he's won.
MJ would not need the 3pt shot in this era. MJ once scored 3,041 total points in a season, while hitting only "12," 3-pt shots! His average was 37.1 points a game that year. However, James Harden is the only player since MJ to scored near that 3,041 mark with 2,818 points but he did it with '378,' 3-pt shots. With the open spacing and lack of defense of today's NBA, Michael would have his way!
People wanted to watch MJ because he made tough baskets on a regular basis. He made the game look easy. That's why the NBA had to change RULES drastically to make players look like they can score like Mike. They made SCORINg easy by almost eliminating physical defense Jordan was known for his acrobatic shots and serving facials on 7 footers. MJ and Dennis Rodman have the same approach when it comes to the game of basketball. They were both borderline psychos.
@@PzoThePlugDude, don't feel bad OK that's why Im so grateful for RU-vid...can you imagine if we didn't have it? Now all generations can truly see who was the Greatest and yes,, just about everyone back than knew we we're all witnessing something very special. I personally got to see him vs David Robinson and rookie Timmy back in '98 I was only 12...the Alamodone had a standing ovation for Jordan, even in his mid 30s, he can drop 40 on you at anytime. Bulls won the game b.t.w. What a legend...
You want to know something completely wild? The season that Kobe won the MVP, his stat line for that season was about the same as Jordan's rookie year stat line.
@user-pw2ro7gt4r That's why I tell people that think Lebron is the greatest human to play the game. Okay, I'll agree to that, but we'll just have to agree that Jordan wasn't human.
Jordan was most definitely a shooter you just see a lot of his dunk clips but he scored most of his points from his outside fadeaway jumper even in those days when he got older he perfected the fade away even more. He wasn't angry he was competitive and had passion it wasn't anger.
It wasn't that MJ couldn't beat the Pistons. The BULLS as a squad couldn't beat the Pistons. MJ was always giving the Piston's work. Michael Jordan averaged 29.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 64 games against the Pistons in his career.
He was smooth as silk, and lighter than air. Magic and light flowed out of him, and onto the rest of the world. Those who came after just want to be like Mike. They would he nowhere without his blueprint to build on and customize. Crazy Old White Lady
His early days he was absolutely killing it watch his earlier days its a must his team then might of struggled but as a individual he was pulling off some unreal shots
Yep. MJ's only "weakness" was the 3. A weakness yet his 3fg was within league average. Not really a weakness. But that was about it when talking about his weakness.
@@krwnsy in most seasons, MJ shot about 1 three pointer per game or less. Those are the seasons where his 3 point percentage suffered. When you look at the 4 seasons where he was shooting about three 3 pointers or more per game, his 3 point percentage was: 37.6, 35.2, 42.7 and 37.4%. So yeah...anyone who says MJ couldn't shoot from three is not being truthful. He could shoot from deep and do so at a pretty good rate. He just chose not to for the most part. BTW...Lebron's has a career 34.4% from three. Kobe's is 32.9%. Those 2 spent most or all of their careers shooting at least 3 three pointers per game. They used it as a weapon. MJ didn't, except for those 4 seasons.
They were shooting threes when Jordan played but that was a shot that mostly the specialists of the shot took and many would take when the shot clock ran down.
WHy Jordon stick his tounge out, "It came from watching my father fixing things around the house, he'd stick out his tongue. As far as I can remember it originated from my granddad. My granddad stuck his tongue out and if I'm working on my car or something around the house I find myself sticking my tongue out really concentrating.
I had just moved from Detroit where the Bad Boys entertained to Chicago where people were mesmerized in every bar watching Jordan and the Bulls clean up in every game. That was an era like none other and whenever they played each it was fireworks. Love your energy! Oh my..
I love listening to these little kids reactions. 1st of all they start talking like they know more than people that have watched a sport for 50 years and it makes me laugh. Then they start telling us of their vast knowledge of basketball which often times is limited. You young kids all crack me up.
Man I love seeing an 18yr old today getting fired up watching Jordan play. The way you grew up with Lebron is how I grew up with MJ, had the AJ1's in 1985 as a kid watched every game I could (harder to do without internet or any DVR). The man was superhuman, appreciate the props young fella. Oh and the habit of the tongue sticking out was picked up from his Dad when he was a kid growing up. He said his Dad did it when working on something or concentrating and he picked it up that way.
Jordan was unstoppable even against the Bad Boys Pistons! Jordan played in the NBA when real Defense was still allowed and post players were in... the Post! Now imagine him playing in today's NBA that has BANNED Defense!!??? With no handchecking and the 3 second rule making sure the post players are nowhere near the post!?? Jordan in today's NBA would be unfair.
Highlights dont do jordan justice…. Watching him live with all the pressure and emotion involved is the one yall never see… clutch will never be measured by any stat
I love it when Lebron fans say "I didn't know MJ was dunking on people like that" And these people make judgement on who the GOAT is?? Really?? You're going to argue with people who have watched both Jordan and Lebron and say that Jordan is the GOAT when you are saying "I didn't know Jordan would dunk on people like that" Bro, your credibility is shot right there then. This is what these Lebron fans do though argue with those who know most everything about both and choose Jordan when they didn't even watch Jordan. What's wrong with gambling and having fun???
The tongue thing, Jordan said it came from his dad. His dad said he always stuck his tongue out when he was really focusing or concentrating. One thing I'll always say, I wish this generation could've watch Jordan games live, and known what it was like to see a kid in school with Jordan's on. When I was in school, 2 or 3 people had Jordan's because they were hard to get. You might get to the store on the day they release, and they would be sold out. Then you drive 2 hours to another mall, and they were sold out. No internet to buy stuff instantly. Watching Jordan games live was always intense, it was always a fight because everyone wanted to beat him. You could almost tangibly feel their desire to win, but Jordan's was always greater. Not only the way he played, but how he pushed his team to play harder.
I'm a Detroit piston fan but Michael Jordan is my all time favorite player next to Kobe lebron Tim Duncan Is Shaquille O'Neal When I watched him play my pistons back then it's like A demon came out of that man I was there I was at the palace of Auburn Hills baby bro it was amazing to watch and I'm 50 so I've seen lebron Kobe Michael Tim Duncan I've seen the great player's game and I'm privileged to have been able to do that because I've seen some great players But the fact that a matter is Michael Jordan is the goat
They say Jordan was mean to teammates but it wasn't just to be an asshole it was to get them to compete at the level he was or needed them to be. He gave them their credit and expected greatness from them. He could joke with them too but the biggest thing was he wasn't telling them or expecting them to do anything he wouldn't do. That's why he was such a great leader
48 inch vertical. He could run, jump, dunk, spin, layup, finger roll, fadeaway, mid range, three point, steal, block , defend, and while he didn’t always hit the winning shot, he didn’t dribble igg TV off his kee ir let it loose if hit the side of the backboard. He was the best finisher in BBall history.
Salley said the goal was to push Jordan left. He's dunking left, making buckets left, reverse lay ups and shots from the left elbow were rainning all over the pistons.
Fam Mike had a jumper The second three peat he showed the post game He was thee lockdown defender Thee closer Thee finisher He had a left hand If you pressed him he had a handle and was too strong for guards Too quick for bigs He was 6’6 215 lbs 48’ in vert (highest in nba history) Ran a 4.3 40 yrd dash He was killing everyone from day 1 He was a decent 3 pt shooter at 33% Shooting 50% from the field as a guard 2.5 steals and a block a game His level of greatness and dominance is unmatched He has 6 series in the postseason where he averaged over 40 a game The most 60 pt games The most 50 pt games The most 40 pt games in playoff history Most points in a round (199 in a 5 game series) Most points in a playoff run (759 in 92) 4 straight 40 pt games in the 93 finals (41 ppg average) He is the greatest of all time by a mile
I remember Jordans rookie season, and Ive watched Kobe and Lebron, while most will say they grew up watching Lebron, theres just something about Jordan that never happen again.
Dope perspective. Love how you focused in on this rivalry. Also, MJ got the tongue thing from watching his dad do it while he was working around the house.
One thing people can do (if possible) is, check out the NBA a few years before Jordan got there (the top teams, stars, stats, conferences, playing styles etc.) then look at Jordan's development up until he transformed from the battles with The Bad Boys. Checking out things like that puts a lot of things in context. Also, you can check out the careers of the other stars in the league, see who Jordan was going against (how good they were, the obstacles he had to face while playing 80+ games every year). Context IS Huge.
Jordan went for the basket when it counts James tries to get the foul in crunch time thats why Jordan will always be better in my opinion . And if Jordan played in this era the way he played back then you do 10x better then the rest because flopin and going for the foul over goin for the bucket is the biggest flaw of the NBA today
I'll tell U now I'm born in da 70's in Australia we had highlights not like today but Michael Jordan hands down GOD who played basketballer & only one player came close black mamba for me my favourite player is the leader isiah Thomas, 🤪😎👍 ♥️from🇦🇺✌️🙏
that series, you will become converted and you wont look back. That was the raw MJ in his prime. The showcase of talent skills and grace... this guys must have a deal with the devil, its not possible. There is nobody to compare if jordan is in todays ERA, it would have been the most magnificent explosion of sports magnified by social media. This guy doesnt need to talk, this guy just surpass every expectation every single game. Everyone thought he will never get a ring, he dont have a team. Then pippen and the history manifest itself that he is above magic and bird with less to no superstar... pippen as an allstar thats the beginning of the greatest dynasty of the modern NBA.
I was born in 1978, so I know a lot about MJ. To explain how he plays basketball is very similar to Ja & Kyrie with their crazy dunks, finger rolls and lay-ups. He also possesses the mid-range game similar to Kevin Durant. The "Bad Boy Pistons" had no other choice but to make some sort of an adjustment to guard or hammer Michael Jordan every time he had the ball close to the net or in the paint. I always thought, this is NBA Basketball, not NFL Football.
You didn't know that Jordan was posterizing. . .? He was literally the first player to have actual posters made of him dunking on people. There have been more actual posters of Jordan made than of all other basketball players combined. Jordan is the original posterizer.
My friend, MJ was like the original posterizer. He was dunking on everyone everytime, specially on 7 footers. On his last rub with the Bulls when he was a little older he changed to the post up and mid range. But untill 93 he was the ultimate athlete
Remember that ALL these highlights were against a back to back championship Pistons team. And they were sending 3 to 5 guys at him to knock him on his a$$.
This is why people say Lebron fans are so ignorant, they talk about him without actually doing homework, good to see one actually doing homework for once
I remember when he was a rookie. Then achieves Magic and Bird status. TIME magazine had a cover on him. I thought the only way he could get any bigger was to win a championship. So he won 6. Two 3 peats. Just soared on up.
I had the privilege to see mj play. I followed his career. I was the biggest Mj fan. I had all his shoes his jersey's his McDonald's cups his bubblegum. His Wheaties collection cereal box. Had a lot of Mj cards seen all his title runs. & For ppl today saying that Mr Flop Crybaby Lebron is better & the goat I was like IS THIS A JOKE IS THIS QUESTION IRRELEVANT? MJ Worked really hard to be the best to be the goat. MJ is the goat cuz MJ played the game like it was life. MJ breathed basketball. MJ played in a era when basketball was physical & better talent & Hall of famers. MJ had heart. All Mr Flop is doing is trying to be the best & call himself the goat now that's a joke. NBA today sux the players suck. all the NBA players are care about is trying to be a superstar. Today's NBA is Sissyball. And that's why NBA ratings & the playoffs are really low. When MJ was playing everyone was watching. The NBA was #1 to watch. NBA today is a joke& pathetic.
Jordan would kill it today for one reason alone, NO ONE in the modern NBA has the FIRE that Jordan had. If you challenged MJ, he would do what it took to 1. up his game, 2. prove your ass wrong. Jordan was 95-98% a perfect basketball player, and that's ONLY because the 5-2% remaining wasn't necessary to his game. But if he needed to tighten up the remaining percentages, he would have done it easily. Just like after the Detroit series, he improved his physical fitness and game BEYOND what he was already doing. MJ was a force of nature on the court, and nature ALWAYS bent. NOBODY, including Bron, has his drive and sheer talent, let alone his basketball IQ.
Everyone in your generation need to keep that in their mouth “I didn’t know” about MJ when they put him and LJ in the same conversation. That’s the main problem with y’all arguing LJ is the GOAT, y’all have no idea about MJ-unfortunate for y’all.
Huge Jordan fan here. But I’m an 80s baby - so as I was a huge fan of 1990s MJ, I really didn’t see the 80s MJ… since I was born 2 years after he was drafted 😂, but my whole childhood, he was it. I remember KG and then Kobe getting drafted… all 3 retirements… everything. Except the 80s
To answer your question: It was unbelieveable seeing MJs entire career. I am fortunate to have seen every NBA season since 1987. One of the reasons Bron doesn't dunk it that often in close games is that he struggles from the line in these situations. Having watched all of these great players in their prime, Kobe was the closest to MJ, Iverson was the greatest scorer since MJ and Bron is like what if Magic Johnson never had HIV and played 20 seasons. Bron better compares to Magic in my opinion, he is just way too different in regards to playing style from Jordan.
The thing about bringing Jordan forward in the modern game is the question of giving him space, no dominant defensive frontcourt, and prob most importantly the newly legal footwork. Imagine giving Jordan a sidestep, step back, euro option with his skill set. Then imagine he gets to take ten threes a game like superstars today. I just don’t think people get what he would capable of in todays nba.
I recommend you watch. "Come fly with Me" that's Michael at the height of his power's it's probably the best documentary I've ever seen in sport's.. and I'm a die hard Spurs fan. B.t.w. Jordan's grandpa use to stick his tongue out at his work as did his father so it was a kind of a family tradition.
I remember being nine years old and in a total trance when Jordan played the Pistons. I was an Isiaih Thomas fan and loved Detroit. But watching Jordan play and continue on to dominate the league, I just knew he was something special all along. Then he went on to beat up my Knicks team. No matter what Ewing and Starks did, I knew they couldn't beat MJ.
There are only two players in NBA history to make 200+ steals and 100+ blocks. Michael Jordan did it twice (1986-87, 1987-88) and Scottie Pippen did it once (1989-90).
Who ever said Jordan can't shoot? These people don't know what they are talking about. He was according to other players, the best shooter in the league.
Have you watched Bird? If not you should! His career was cut short due to a back injury. Hands down in his prime one of the greatest players of all time. He had the most solid all around game, offense, defense, rebounds, all shooting, one of the greatest passers ever, and the best trash talker of all time! There’s 2 videos to watch. The one with his retirement and the one of all the greats sharing their stories of Bird torching them while talking smack the whole game and telling them exactly what he was gonna do where and how he’d shoot it in their face and nothing they could do about it!
i am one of this generation and i will still pick jordan over lebron day and night. the problem in my generation is that they are narrow minded so you cannot really sit down and talk about what they bring to the table to discuss to. they will go on and believe on "their truth" just like those lgbt mf who believes that you can identify yourself in any way you want, if a man claims to be woman he is a woman, that is bulls--t.
