I received a text a few days ago stating that I was being transferred to a far away location; I was crushed. That day, I applied to approximately 15-20 different job positions. The next day, I received four interview requests. I scheduled two for the same day. I got hired in my first interview with much higher income potential. I canceled my second interview. I am so happy and relieved now. I was having suicidal thoughts and now, I am okay.
Listen when one door close another one will open. Believe it will happen for you. Out of 50 no's you will get a yes. If you have a business idea this is the time to do for it. No time to be depressed or worried. Life is too short ppl
Less Confused GAW I hear someone who has a mindset of DEFEAT 😆😆 there’s ALWAYS another day. Your mindset and attitude will determine your futures path. I walked away from a high paying career with a wife and 2 kids and a mortgage. Guess what, I’m still here standing with a roof over my head and food on the table!!!! I was completely fucking miserable in my career so I chose to walk away. I made things happen with the time off and now I’m happier than ever! Took a pay cut but that was the least of my worries. You can change your lifestyle and make adjustments financially. Your comment above just screams defeat so therefore you’ll always be defeated in life. It’s real simple, you’re at the table sitting with losers and pessimist. Let me show you the table full of winners and optimism and I GUARANTEE you it’s a different conversation!
Nice advice but not sure how realistic it is. While it would be wonderful to travel or take time to reflect on what you really want to do, the bills are due yesterday and there is no income coming in today.
Thank you and most of us would end up homeless and sadly we live in a society where most managers and supervisors are incompetent and favor friends and family to an extreme! You gotta practically sell your soul to the devil to be able to eat!
That all sounds nice, but when you have child support, car note, rent, etc..., taking a break after losing a job, to choose where to work is not an option at all. Bills do not wait when you lose a job. Don't believe me? Give it a try, and see just how quickly you find yourself losing everything, simply by taking time to choose how you're going to resume a steady income by what job or career you pursue. Most people do not have the luxury of taking time to choose a new job or career. In most cases, people must accept the first offer given, regardless of what type of job or career it is. The reality of this really sucks, but it is the truth.
She does not explain how to sustain yourself, or pay the bills while "taking a month to contemplate" what to do. Go on a vacation, go back to school. Where does that money come from? Her third point, find your strengths and focus on a job search based on that. Does not work. If you do not have a degree or diploma from a school to back it up, most employers will just junk your resume. I'm great at art. I can do most any jobs with graphics, but most employers look for some kind of art degree to base their hiring on. And lets be fair, that's why they do it. Would you go to a Doctor who did not go to school to be a doctor? Probably not. So Linda Raynier. When you lose your job, how do we afford to pay the bills, feed our children, keep the lights on during this period of reflection, or when taking a nice vacation to Hawaii. Please please explain this to me (us). I would like to know.
I lost my job almost 2 months ago and immediately started looking for a new job. I interviewed at a lot of places (8 out of the 22 I applied for). I’ve ended up with multiple offers and may even get more. Having savings and getting unemployment has allowed me to be picky and buy time by asking for a few days to consider offers.
I do enjoy Linda's videos, but this one wasn't helpful. I was let go and I have fun through my savings while looking for the right job. Right now, I'm in panic about the money and don't have months to find the right job. I need to pay bills and have weeks rather than months. I don't know how to deal with panic.
Almost half a year ago, I was let go from my dream job and dream company. My manager made it clear that it was not because of any performance related issues. Right now, I will be moving to Malaysia from the Philippines for an Account Management role from being just an Associate.
Hi Jomel Nuevo. I know it sucks to be fired for no reason. It happens to a lot of people. I even went through it myself. I am glad that you got a new job with another company. One thing I would suggest is that on this new job, just make sure that you get along well with your new boss and coworkers because other wise you might find yourself out of a job again. The most important thing on this new job is to gain as much experience as you can on this job and get awards and compliments from management for doing a good job. But if you find that the job, the company, or the coworkers are not a good fit, keep working the job, and find another one where you will be appreciated. Don't forget to keep your resume or CV updated with noteworthy accomplishments that you achieve on this new job. An accomplishment would be like, you sold $10,000 in products or services to new customers or you found a new way to help your company land a new contract with an huge business customer.

I recently was let go March 31st ...I do feel as if this was a chance of opporunity, even though financially I did not like what happened. You hit it right on "panic mode". Few things I know...I love to inspire..I want to own my own business...I want to be happy♡

It certainly does knock self esteem, particularly as in my country (England) I have observed agents won't even read anything other than the last position on CV, or they realise you're in a weak position being unemployed, so only put you forward for the jobs no one else wants. Also I had to sign on benefits and they push you to apply for any old thing, your feelings are of no interest, so long as they get you off their books. If you don't you get sanctions reducing the already not-enough-to live-on payment. Very hard to have any control over my own life 😕
Great points Linda. I have been in this situation plenty of times in my own career. I asked the fundamental question: Who am I? first. It provided a diversion from "Why me?". Then I asked, "what do I want to do next?" From there, my reliance on people close to me made a huge difference. When I became employed I felt an urging/need to pay it forward. Keep making this great content.
I was let go from my job (of 10 yrs) all of a sudden. I had been working a part time home business so i decided to work my home business full time!! And made a $15,000 bonus in 2 months!!!! In the admin field, places wanted to start paying such a low wage that I couldn't even pay my bills with that!! They don't want to pay you for your experience. Some places wanted you to have a bachelor's degree and pay $15/hr!!!! 🙄

First everyone needs to work on their internal happiness then you can conquer all these things. Fear is an illusion. We are not really worried about losing a job. sometimes when we don't have a job we become picky. We can work anywhere as long inner self is happy and this take work. That work is worth doing.

What happened to me was I wasn’t laid off. I had to leave because the overall work structure of my current role was not helping me foster myself to be better at what I do. Instead, it made me suffer and perform poorly because of the lack of work methodologies and as I stayed longer, I suffered more and it’s not good for for overall mental health. Because of this recent experience, I have had self-doubts. Imagine, I have been doing very well with working for projects, but this recent career made me feel like I am not good enough.

I'm at that point where I did lose my job (was replaced and heard that the company laid A LOT of people off- poor management). It was not a career- but I was trying to pursue one as an Android programmer from a mailroom coordinator, but alas my job was terminated. I have multiple sclerosis and want to create videos to show people with this sometimes deliberating disease. So, yes I am fine with my outcome.
William Plaud that is so inspirational. You know, my mom was fired because she missed work a lot due to being hospitalized with Multiple Sclerosis flare ups. We lost everything. I love my job and company, but I hate my manager, so I had to resign though it's a very high-paying job. Now, I'm pretty jobless, but it was liberating for me. I'll just take a few months break to regain composure and search for a new job. Fronting a panel of interviewers is easy, it's the technical exams that matter and is a make-or-break...
My department was just let go out of the blue. Feeling EXTREMELY stressed with my bills as well as nervous for whatever next job I take (hopefully start working asap). There is a part of me that is refreshed that the start of something new is coming. I don't know what the future holds but I suppose I as long as I do my best that's all I can do.

I currently quit my job after 6 months, because the job wasn't the right fit for me. I've realized i really want to pursue my dream in the music business ( ex. working for a label, A&R executive etc.) I realized i really want to help creatives/artists but the problem is, i can't even get my foot in the door to these businesses do to the lack of experience I have in the industry. Its super competitive and all about who you know. I have tons of customer service experience, a bachelors degree etc. but Im at an age right now where i can't just start at the bottom and intern for free. I need some sort of income. What do you suggest my next move to be? Music business is my passion but this job market has me going for whatever opportunity gets thrown my way. Im tired of working jobs that aren't leading me to where i know i should be. Any insight? Thank you so much!
Hi Sean Harrell, since you not getting foot in the door for the music business, might I suggest volunteering for a radio station or local record label to gain some experience with those music businesses. I know you don't want to work for free, but the connection you can make while your there, can help you find a job while your volunteering. Who knows if you do a good job working for whatever music business you volunteer for maybe, they might consider hiring you if you are a good and dependable worker or they can find a job for you somewhere else. Plus, you can use the volunteer experience you gain at the local radio station or record label to put on your resume, and that can help you find a job in the music business too. At least with volunteering you foot in the door.
@funerary wow, just realized this was from 3 years ago holy moly lol. Long story short, life happend, and I took a detour into software engineering/web development now. As i'm sure you know if you've paid attention these past years, the music business has changed tremendously to the point where top record labels no longer steer the ship. They obviously still exist, but the market and demand has become very fickle and super niche/competitive and even more challenging to break in. Therefore it didn't make much sense anymore to pursue. Over the years, I've had to look within myself to figure out my next move, pivot my direction, and pursue other possible routes that bring me just the same mount of spark as my love for music and helping other creatives. It was tough for many years feeling lost, but now I've discovered something totally out of my realm with coding/design and so far I can say that i've really enjoyed it! It's challenging, but very rewarding in a weird analytical/creative way and to my surprise, you'll find many musicians have gravitated to it as well lol. Not to mention, the tech industry is in high demand and will continue to be, so I feel like i've made the right decision. Best believe somewhere down the road, I still hope to one day bring it full circle and use my skills to work in the future music business realm whether its for a top music company or starting my own.Times are changing, and I believe that Tech is the future for many industries, so hopefully this will all lead me to another route in where I can still make my dreams/passions for music become a reality :)
I have psychological issues which led me to underperform some tasks of my job and they will fire me. I have no other option for supporting myself financially
I was terminated last week. I worked with dementia/ alzheimers residents as an activities assistant. This was a role that I did not apply for btw. I tried it and shadowed how things would work out. The manager (new, started same as me) terminated me after more than only a month because she thought that my schedule/personal issues got in the way of coming in on time and decided that I work it out and that it was not a good fit. However, I'm thinking of working in a different department in that workplace because I felt that I was robbed of newer opportunities there and did not want to work under my old manager who let me go. A coworker/friend mentioned that my old manager had explained to her why she let me go and she welcomes me with open arms once everything I'm going through is fixed. Do you think I should give myself a go and speak to other managers at the job right away for a different role? Or would it be better to wait, gain more experience and then apply again?? I'm hoping for the best and right now, I'm not doing so well and I'm confused on what I should do. I loved working at my job and had a close bond with the residents I worked with. Thanks!

I have so much less stress. It’s been 9 months now. I’m self employed but only making enough for bills which I’m extremely grateful for since I live on my own. Just trying to figure out what I should do next. I’m just so over the 9-5 deal. I know what I’m passionate about but trying to tie it all in to being something that’s lucrative.
I will start again or find some other inspiration, because that seems to be how life works. I hope, I get lost, I find my way, then the path disappears again, and I just have to keep looking. Success and happiness come in small pieces, surrounded by struggle and plenty of failure. Accepting that and moving forward may get me to a good place again… I hope…❤️
Ok ..but this applies to people who have some good financial position..like spouse earning well or so. What about people who depend on money to pay their bills and have a single job. They don’t have money to go for vacation then I’d they loose their job, breather and relax, pause and think. They need to get a job to survive,else they will run out of money. I think every person will take this experience differently, some harder than others. But, let's focus more for the harder ones. Most of us are creatures of habits and feel comfortable in our comfort zone, therefore facing the reality to search for a new job, going thru that process, questions, paperwork, learn new things...is overwhelming. No everyone has the ability or opportunity to learn quickly, to be fearless, adapt to charges, to have a extra or backup support....with that said, the fear is not about losing the job itself, is about no be able to find the same comfort zone (if is good), the same salary at least.. There are opportunities out there, we might try couple times, we might sucked at some new jobs, we might ended up hating it, might be no worth the workload...only ourselves will find the answer for what we are capable of. I truly believe some people are meant to be for certain positions and others deserves the respect and pay for what they do.
I was happy being a regular employee till I decided to apply for a promotion. I got the position but it was exhausting and so stressing. So, I decided to resign because I felt being electrocuted while I am doing the job bec. it was so stressful. My stomach and head hurt maybe bec. I was so stressed enough. I work in dubai the company i was working in wana close down as they lost and dont have any cash flow so i must leave the country and looking so hard everywhere but now a days u cant find a job easily here i have a bank loan which i must pay and thats really crazy all that cant make u sleep well or happy or even giving u the time to think about your life which is all under risk .
