The woman who approached you was gypsy she wasnt greeek . You should not have let her talk to you . She tries to overcharge you with the flowers etc . Also , as a rule of thumb whoever approaches you in Greece is for scam especially in athens and Thessaloniki also. I am greek and typically i just keep moving on whithout paying attention to them. The scams involve bracelets around the arm, flowers and other stuff.

You should probably find a greek friend to tour you around Athens. He will take you to actual greek traditional places to eat or have a drink.

Έπρεπε να σε ξεναγήσω εγώ που ξέρω πολύ καλά το κέντρο και πια μαγαζιά με φαγητό η καφέ ν' αποφεύγεις και πια για να πηγαίνεις! Σ' αυτό που πήγες, είχα πάει μια φορά και ηταν χάλια το φαγητό! Βέβαια τ' αλλα που είναι εκεί κοντά έχουν πολύ πιο απαίσιο φαγητό (οτι χειρότερο σε ποιότητα κρέατος, κακοτηγανισμενες και προκατ πατάτες, χάλια σαλάτες κτλ) που μετά σε πάει αίμα η παθαίνεις τροφική δηλητηρίαση! Το καλύτερο γυραδικο ειναι στα Εξάρχεια και λέγεται καλο ψημένο! Οσο για το καφέ που πήγες είναι αλυσίδα και έχει πολλά στο κέντρο, είναι πολύ φτηνό, γιατί έχει κακή ποιότητα προϊόντων (μια φορα πήγε και πήρε η μανα μου απο 'κει φυσικό χυμο πορτοκάλι και ήτανε τόσο πικρός, που τον πέταξε μετά την πρώτη γουλια) Επρεπε να σε ξεναγήσει Έλληνας και οχι οι ξένοι που είχες μαζί σου και δεν ξέρανε καθολου το κεντρο της Αθήνας!

You are in downtown Athens! Go close to Panepistimio (metro station) and see the university buildings they are very beautiful also the new Acropolis museum is not far from your spot.

The yellow fruit you took is called in Greek "Musmula" or "Μούσμουλα" (if you want to find it). You dont eat the outside usually. We have them at the biggest Island of Greece, called Crete, but it seems other parts of Greece might have them too. I always believed they originated in the island, at least based on what my grandfather said to me, but you never know.

You should definitely go to Panathinaikos vs AEK game on Sunday if you can find any tickets left and also go sightseeing around the city. I would also suggest taking the subway and exploring different parts of Athens. Of course you can’t leave from Athens without visiting the acropolis

When you're a tourist in Athens don't go to places that typically tourists go. You'll eat overpriced low quality food. Go wherever you see greek people eating. Also don't let anyone approach you or talk to you. Always have your backpack in the front when you're walking to monastiraki square, and never, i mean never buy your beverage from a kiosk to sit in a tavern. It is not forbidden but it's a really really bad move, and the waiter and the owner of the tavern will hate you on the spot. Also next time, find a greek guy to help you. You saw nothing.

16:28 unfortunately thats the ugly part of Greece/Athens. Many "Roma" (basically gypsies) will come to you trying to lure you, get money and stuff like that. Next time try to talk with young people around and ask for directions, for places to eat and drink. Most of the shops around there are overpriced and not really that good. I respect the fact that you want to try local food but people there are robbing tourists with these prices. Also someone mentioned other places you can visit, like the southern suburbs of Athens. Seaside, great views really good food and coffee!
