You all loved the first Emily in Paris review so I couldn't help myself and decided to do a second part! The Netflix series starring Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, an American transplant in Paris has been both beloved and hated by viewers! Many find the show stereotypical of Americans and the French alike, and many find the show overall reductive. Others like myself enjoy the show, but can't help but feel that the wardrobe of Emily is so hideous that it can't be ignored. In this video we get into the last few outfits Emily wears, decide if as she becomes more comfortable in Paris that her outfits might get better, and recognize some quite smart references from the show to iconic fashion collections by designers like Virgil Abloh & Off-White, Alexander McQueen, & Viktor & Rolf.

I don't think there would be as many Killing Eve fashion roasts, Villianelle and her costume designer's understand fashion for most of the time, and I think Luke likes the costume designs. He complimented her famous pink tulle dress from season 1.

Well you’re probably right. The same costume designer for this show did The Devil Wears Prada and that did happen there. Chanel and other style houses loaned peices for the film

They probably don't pay to promote, but probably will give them items for the show. I don't think the clothing budget on this show in infinite so they probably have to beg and borrow .......

She and Mindy looked so consistently tragic and dated. Just looked like an unstylish person's idea of what a stylish person looks like. Carrie Bradshaw's outfits from 20 years ago look fresher. But Sylvie and Camille looked fabulous which just made me think that it was intentional. I think they missed a trick by making her look so awful. I get that they were going for the trendy and classic dichotomy but I still think they could've made her look more appealing. Something similar to Villanelle - outrageous, fun but WELL-STYLED. Also my boyfriend and I would joke about how many (ugly) ankle boots she owned. EDIT: That being said, the look at 9:30 really is a serve.

I feel like the 90s are even more popular tho, with the whole preppy trend and mom jeans and stuff, I haven’t really seen anyone wearing low rise irl. Most of what I see is like a mix of 90s and early 2000s, which makes sense since all the people in the age group that grew up back then are in the age group to make the trends now so it’s kind of nostalgic.

the clothes kinda fit what i imagine girl whose only source of fashion knowledge are magazines like cosmopolitan and instyle wears also i haven't seen the series but from all those vids it kinda seems like fantasy of that type of a girl? "Emily in Paris" is an Americanized, narrow-minded, privileged (white) view of Paris that in no way reflects real Parisian life. I know it was meant to be SATC-esque, but no, thanks. Season 2, nah, we're good. Also, as a French person: Julien is literally the worst actor in French cinematic history, so we'll pass. Was that too French? Well, then you know I'm right.

@ghostlin ❤︎ I'm from Paris born and raised, and believe me Paris has a LOT more diversity than shown on the show. In the 70s, Paris had a lot of people come from Africa and Northern Africa to work because of the booming economy and that ended up staying. Not once did I see an arabic person or a black person other than Julien. Emily only frequents rich white neighborhoods and elitist scenes known to be non-inclusive.

Luke, I know you don't these often but you should review a season wardrobe of the Dynasty 2017 Reboot that has a dramatic focus on fashion like its predecessor. Additionally I think you would enjoy the show.

Patricia Field is a costume designer for Emily in Paris. Previously she was costume designer for The Devil Wears Prada and Sex and the City. Hope season two will bring some good fashion moments.

I kind of wish you did a bit more research on Patricia Field instead of referring to her as "the costume designer" - it feels off-brand for you and considering she's so renowned, it would've been helpful to contextualize her work, even if she blew it with this show. (Also love the video and the work you do, just a minor observation)!

Clothes aren't always there to look good in screen but to tell a story and I think it just fits her character because she doesn't really care about the culture

Emily is a terrible being who never takes responsibility in her actions, but people seem to not see that because she's played by the amazing lily Collins. The character is really awful, sleeps with a minor and with her best friend's boyfriend, and people still like her??? HOW?

If I worked for this tv show and saw your videos, I’d fly you to set immediately... I just don’t get the theme or the message they are telling through clothing... I’ll probably still watch the show but I would be so much more excited with some stellar fashion moments to look forward to!! Most people walking the streets of NYC are better dressed... even in discount designer 😂
