I saw him overcome numerous problems in this video. Now he knows more about something that is (for now) a part of his life. Maybe you're expecting him to reach a final goal at which he will be unchallenged? That will never happen. It is the nature of Will to identify problems for which to challenge himself. Now he will pass these traits on to his potato and they will be stronger as a result. [🎶 Chariots of Fire 🎵]
My Dad used to tell me to ask myself before I bought anything, "Are you buying a problem or a solution". I think William is addicted to buying problems hahaha
that's basically home ownership, or ownership of anything, in a nutshell. It's not so much about problems vs solutions, it's about how worth something is. Does it benefit or not?
Australian with a hobby farm here. You can get rid of eucalyptus logs by inoculating them with shiitake mushroom spores. The mushrooms will eat the wood and you get one of the most expensive mushrooms which are also delicious. Just keep the log wet and cut off mushrooms when you want to eat them.
@@LemonGrinder they need to be kept moist all the time. I don't think they hurt healthy trees. Anyway if you're in California you want all the eucalypts gone asap. When you plant trees from a continent that's always on fire you shouldn't be surprised when California starts being on fire all the time.
for anyone reading this and curious, to go from inoculation to fruiting body will take 6-9 months in ideal circumstances. You also have to keep the logs very moist that entire time which is not easy in california. In a place like california it's recommended to put the logs in a chamber of some kind to control the humidity, so...yeah not a great solution in willie's circumstance.
You know what, watching William struggle so much made me feel better about myself constantly finding more problems in my projects that grind them down to a halt
This is the cycle of any person who has "projects" and feels as if they're better off teaching themselves and buying equipment than sourcing work. I live this cycle constantly. I must say, though, it is very rewarding!
I bought an ambulance that didn’t drive 6 months ago. It has caused me more pain, depression, and stress than I could ever have imagined. Seeing people like William struggle through projects like this gives me hope and helps me have the motivation to keep going. Thank you for the inspiration.
@@MadhavanNayar nope not for me. I’m a field engineer, so it doubles as a work truck. The exterior compartments are great for tools. Plus it’s a cube so easy to build in, the structure is much better than a bus, and it looks badass.
programmer here. When I first started out on a legacy codebase (old software), I always wondered why senior developers would shutter when I'd say something like "oh x part of the codebase should be refactored, it'll take me a day or two." This video is a perfect illustration of why. When William said something like "It took me 4 hours to peel back the layers to change one thing, and now it won't run at all" I realized just how good of an illustration this is. I have definitely said something like that a handful of times while coding.
I like how mowing the lawn was the only thing your city cares about. You have a bear trap that defies the Geneva conventions and they just think your grass is a little too tall.
This is exactly how I feel with my truck. After replacing numerous components and an entire rear end, I've just resigned to saving a bunch of money to drop it off at a mechanic.
For years, I've worked on excavators, hydraulic technician, welding repairs. You name it, our backwoods engineering shop did it. All that time I was watch will make cool shit going man I wanna do that. Now I'm watching Will do my job and go fuck this shit and honestly it the most entertaining/gratifying view of my life 😂 Keep up the mahi boss, I promise it all starts to make sense one day, about 2-300 leaks in 😂😂
William is humble but has seemingly amassed a handful of sidekicks by being the one willing to organize people. Often when I've seen, say, Kevin in an Allen video, Will's in there someplace too. I think more often than we know, one of them is the cameraperson for another.
as a ex diesel tech in the army I can tell you, I've worked on some of the finest pieces of shit in the US military, so I feel for you working on this thing. if you need any help I'm happy to be here to throw ideas off of if you ever need it! also if you think the Ford headlight is bad some Chrysler you have to take off the front right tire to replace a battery. because reasons
whoever owned my 2nd Gen Prius before me decided it was easier to cut a hole in the front driver's side wheel well skirt to replace a PITA hybrid system coolant diverter valve that is notorious for frequently going out and getting hung up, needing replacement and I surely cannot fault them for it and am happy to be able to replace it in 5 minutes instead of 2 hours next time it gives me trouble, lol.
Used to have an Olds Alero. Had to lift the engine to change the accessory belt, because naturally the mfgr routed it around an engine mount. I still want to smack the responsible engineer (or manager who decided on purpose to send most people to dealer service for such a minor thing) over the head with one of those belts.
My dad has the same addiction as you, except its just 4 completely rusted out cars, 3 barely functioning trailers and 2 sheds worth of assorted hand tools I'll end up inheriting 😂
William, Go buy some UV dye and a UV flashlight. Find the leak, you could probably fix it with some teflon tape. It woulda cost me $40 to either fix it, or say "I don't know how to fix it, but it's leaking from right here..."
Sounds about right William. You spend 15 grand on the excavator. Then BEFORE you beat the shit outta it you should have done a full inspection and replace basically the entire fuel and electrical system which will cost 10 grand. In the long run you won't be saving any money. But you'll learn what NOT to buy next time. Love you. Oh, and about the excavator hydraulic system.. mmmm. That's another 5-7 grand in parts and labor. Good luck.
This feels like my car hobby. Buy a cheap car, throw a turbo on it. Blows up? Guess I need to build an engine for it, even though I've never done anything like that in my life.
Hang in there homie, it's cool how you have relatable issues. Your not like many other content creators who seem to have shit figured out but that's part of the William Osman magic I'd come to say
Watching William go from building wacky robots and doing weird science to having a lightweight mental breakdown, to now owning and operating heavy equipment is extremely wholesome. Waiting on the homesteader phase for him to start milking goats and planting corn.
Even though I know what William meant when he said the city will fine him over the grass situation, my brain immediately thought “the city is gonna find him?” Like they are looking for him as if he were in hiding for all his Jimmy Neutron experiments and honestly that’s funnier than what he really meant.
Love the animal crossing music in the background. Givesme the same vibe as me playing after restarting my island: having plans to do things and terraform but not getting around to do them
Watching the whole character ark of this man has truly been extraordinary, from burning his house down, to fixing heavy machinery i'm just thankful he's been taking me on the ride. Thanks William and congrats on the potato!
Some of these things are specifically designed so that the average consumer takes it to a dealer or buys/leases a new one because it's so much trouble.
Been a fan for quite a few years now. You’re videos started as a standard heroes journey (goal, struggle, success). Now they’ve morphed into this modern tragedy of desire and struggle with little resolution. I enjoy the content!
It'll be OK Will. In July I began to tear down my truck's engine to determine why coolant and oil was emulsifying together. After a lot of work to replace the head gaskets, clean out all the emulsion, and multiple times rockauto sending me a passenger brake hose when I needed a driver brake hose. I poured water into find it was leaking from the back of the pump, cut a new gasket, clean it up and reinstall to find it was also leaking from a small hole burned through the casing. Also the battery is so dead the charger doesn't even notice it's clamped onto a battery. It's been rough with all the random setbacks, let alone my own problems. At this point I'll take "it runs" even if it's a little choppy.
I love that despite having millions of followers and a genius brain william drives an absolute fucking beater and cant figure out simple mechanics. It genuinely gives me so much more hope in life, thanks william
This video is a great way to show that sometimes when you’re solving a problem, you discover new ones and it’s ok. Happens to the best of us, just gotta go through with it
LMAO me too Osman, I always feel link a purchase should be 'an investment' I.E. : I use it for my own personal use, of coarse, but there has to be someone else out there that also needs this and costs alot to buy, surly they will hire to do the thing!'' *perpetually broke and not using the damn thing*
Watching William is kinda therapeutic. Seeing him commit to all these really questionable decisions and him still managing to have a life and a family is actually reassuring.
Man this is the most relatable content I've ever seen! So many things to fix yet it always just keeps getting worse! You really are incredible at portraing it all on camera
So far I feel like there's two type of engineer/intelligent youtubers, type 1, the hacksmith kind, type two safety third kind. Funnily it's the second type that are enjoying their work
One repair at a time. One maintenance activity at a time. Each one is a step forward. Each one is cheaper than having a professional do it for you despite the time you spend until it isn't anymore, then just pay the mechanic.
