I Love Lucy and the movie, The Long Long Trailer. Lets take a tour and get the back story.

I have a New Moon trailer which I keep on a lake in NJ. Several modifications were done over the years, but it still has the 1950's charm. I live in it between May and Oct. and have for the last 12 years. I believe mine was manufactured in 1957.

My parents bought this New Moon new when I was 7. As someone has said there was a second bedroom. We had bunk beds. Across , those two drawers were ours, my sister and I, I had the bottom one and the top bunk. Our kitchen was much bigger. It was called a Youngstown's kitchen. So many dishes I washed in that sink. Thanks for letting me go home.

When I was a kid, we lived in one in upstate NY. That wasn't a dining room, it was my and my step-brother's bedroom. There were bunk beds and the bottom bunk was over the wheelwell. The dresser drawers were always getting stuck and off track. There was a table that flopped down from that cabinet that was taken out to eat on, and there were two folding chairs along with two regular chairs that were used as seating in the living room. We had one of those old portable washers with the separate spinner, and in the winter we had a clothes line that ran the length of the hall to dry our stuff. That's why WE had hooks in the ceiling... LOL... The fridge was across from the stove, and my step-mom painted the cabinets and fridge hot pink with these huge sunflower stickers stuck all over them... gawd... There was zero privacy. But I loved that place.

As a kid we had one too the box on the floor in the middle bedroom was where all the plumbing ran.

Thank you so much for the lovely video! It brings back so many memories. I lived in a trailer very similar to this when I first got married in the 1980s. I have been on the search for one like the one we lived in and this is about as close as it gets! Our kitchen was a different configuration, though but all else the same. In our trailer, we had sliding wooden doors in between the kitchen and the second bedroom and also between the second bedroom and the bathroom, and then between the bedroom and the bathroom! I know that sounds complicated but they were so nice my cabinets in the kitchen were that same wood. I believe it is birchwood. And yes, we had that porcelain tub also. And the toilet and a very small sink right across from it. I used to joke that you could sit on the toilet and brush your teeth at the same time it was so close! I could take a bath in that tub and stretch my legs out completely, that's how long it was. It is rather cramped style living, you can't have too many possessions. But you can be very, very happy in it regardless. Thanks again for the video. I continue to search for one exactly like the one we had. Oh how I wish I could find the photograph of the Insignia next to the door on ours.

I love these old trailer houses. I lived in one almost this old. The area you thought was a dining room is more likely a bedroom.. like for a child. Although it certainly could be used as a dining room. In these small trailer houses, the living room also serves as a dining area. Thanks for the tour!!

The room in the center of the trailer (between the kitchen and bathroom) would have been a second bedroom. This differed from Lucy and Desi’s trailer, in that theirs was only a one-bedroom, not two.

Thanks for the info, I have learned so much about this trailer...rock on
@mthivier
@mthivier 3 года назад
@@TheArtofRVing those second bedrooms in those old trailers didn't offer a lot of privacy, as you had to walk through them to get to the bathroom and the master bedroom, but I guess when the trailers were only eight feet wide, there really wasn't much of a way to configure them any differently. :)
@mthivier
@mthivier 3 года назад
@@TheArtofRVing Also, the double bed setup in the master bedroom, as seen in your video, would have been the standard arrangement, but the movie studio made New Moon swap out the double bed for twins, as the censorship protocol in those days wouldn't have allowed Lucy and Desi to be seen sleeping n the same bed (even though they were married in real life).

Remember at the end of the movie, Tasy and the owner's wife went to measure their freezer to see if it would fit in the trailer, as the couple were thinking of buying it. Where would of that had gone? I never understood that, as there wasn't room for Nick's clothes as you pointed out. I lived in a 1947 trailer for 3 yrs. I can't remember the name. That was not a dinning room, it was the second bedroom. Two closets and a dresser. Bed would go on opposite side with custom rounded corners. They would also put bunk beds in if you wanted. Dinning was done from the angled cabinet that you said they took out. A table would pull up out of it and would extend with leaves dropped down in it. The chairs were wooden folding.

LoLoTray, Good movie. Wooden screen doors, just like grandma had. That wood and mirror are awesome. Wooden valance?....too cool. We love all the trivia and history you are bringing about the movie and family with this. All that wood is amazing. Guys hanging their clothes in the shower, that is still a thing, am I right? (just kidding hun! 🤣) Those sconces are so great. That made me laugh. Those vents are really neat. I wonder why we no longer still have some of those? Maybe they are just not as effective as the roof ones. I have never seen those latches before. Might be tough to use if your hands are full. We were walking through a 1954 home a while back and that cabinetry in the kitchen is identical to what they used that house. So amazing. That window latch really was something.😮 I remember seeing the thermostat and doorbell at my Uncle's farm. I thought that the middle cabinet was going to open toward you. (that fooled me) All those doors were really cool. That would be a great project to renovate that thing. This was awesome!!!! ❤️👍👏 Donovan & Jodi

@TheArtofRVing 4 года назад
Oh yeah the wooden screen door...great to slam. The wooden thick valance blew me away..the biggest I have seen. I wanted to include some history, I think it made the trailer come alive. Do you hang your clothes in the shower? Original Sconces..along with everything else. How many times can I is say original. Yes, what if your hands were full...might be a challenge. Good catch. Interesting you saw the cabinetry in a house, just shows you the quality in the trailer. Nice memory with the thermostat...was that Yasgurs Farm? I thought the cabinets were going to open the other way also, these old trailers can mess with your mind. The person who owns it is restoring it. I hope to do another video when it is done...why are you guys so AWESOME?

i recently went to estate sale of well known old Studebaker/hotrod celebrity type that passed away. over 10 acres of cars trucks trailers etc...was tow yard as well in the 50s,..Bought a 55 stude and I purchased a trailer at the sale., everyone was telling me the trailer was used in the movie "long long trailer"...its just the frame now as it was sitting 60 years rotting away...any way to identify it as being the Ricardo's trailer? it is a 32 ft and old 53 rims and tires still intact, also there are 2 steps on passenger side that line up w trailer used in the movie. estate sale was in cen cal near pine flat lake area.
