I absolutely loved this message. We will never have it figured out and the more embrace that and celebrate it as learning opportunity, the easier it is to get unstuck. The beginner's mindset also allows us to just focus on exploration instead of expectation of perfection.

I once heard this valuable bit of advice that has helped me get this far through my 20s: “Your 20s are not for finding your footing, so much as they are for learning how to survive not being able to.”

I actually feel embarrassed whenever my friends and former classmates call to hang out coz there was once when they were all talking about their careers and then the spotlight was on me and I was like "hey im just at home u know like cleaning and cooking ha ha 😅" like wtf.. they all sound professionals and here i am still living under my parents wings(im 23 btw). So whenever they call to hang out I just simply make excuses coz im so embarrassed about having achieved nothing compared to them 😞

I turn 29 in 2 days. This really hit me because I thought I had a clear path to my dream job but that clarity has completely shattered by realistic standards. I turn 25 in 8 days... still figuring it out. I feel behind compared to old friends but I'm working on myself. I know what I want to some extent, but I have let social anxiety control my life since I was a young teen, living most of it in fear of what might happen or what others think. I think I'm finally finding the courage within myself to seek treatment. Because if I don't I may remain stuck...

Here is some advise that will help anyone feeling this way. Go and get a warehouse job...or work on an oil rig or something blue collar before working at a white collar. Believe me...this will help you a lot to find yourself in life...The job itself is gonna probably suck...but the people you meet at these blue collar jobs are real men and real women...they aren't the "fake smiles" you see at a white collar jobs, and after reading below, you'll see why this will inherently give you an advantage over other societal slaves. You'll eventually realize that the people working blue collar jobs are real men and real women that are just adult sized children...and in fact that's the ideal human being...confident in speaking to others without the ego blocking them, they have families with kids to support so they understand responsibilities, and you will eventually emulate their behavior by being around them. You need this skill (confidence in interaction) because in school you are taught how to be a politically correct slave, and that actually messes with the structure of your brain...it leads to anxiety and existential suicidal thoughts, like thinking that you are a fake, or that everyone around you is a fake, or that you are competing for fake life points. In addition to that: Stop lying. Be honest 100% of the time. Lying to other people messes with the anxiety build up in your brain...when that anxiety gets high enough it will borrow energy and structure from other parts of the brain in order to maintain the consistency of the string of lies you've told to people...and this is where you start losing the ability to talk, you lose the ability to empathize and to listen and to properly react. You become a goofy shlub. So it's really simple...stop lying to other people...stop hiding things from your family...stop lying to yourself...start telling the truth to yourself and start telling the truth to other people. When you do this, your brain will have more energy to dedicate toward your sensible emotions, and behaviors. If you need to have a little alcoholic drink before going outside...go and do that if it means you are going to more easily talk to other people and tell them truths rather than maintaining lies. Once you do the above, you'll basically overcome the one thing that is ACTUALLY stopping you in your life...which is your own brain. The brain is this funny thing where it is in control of you but it conforms to what you tell it to do. You feel depressed? It will mold itself to make you feel more depressed. You feel happy? It will mold itself to feel more happy. Why does that happen? It's because of this thing called Feedback Loops. The only way to control your life is to take advantage of this molding of the brain in a positive direction.

So true! I've worked in corporate and in warehouses and I much prefer working in warehousing! Not so much the job but the people were just so much better which actually made doing the job more bearable. Working in corporate just made me hate people. So fake, phony because they were behind a desk. I'm glad I'm working from home now so I don't have to deal with all that BS!

Ive worked at a tire shop since I was 16, I turn 22 in a few weeks now. This is so true didn’t know how I didn’t learn about it sooner. Almost never any real malicious problems or fake smiles with me and my coworkers, and half of them are double my age. Still being a child at heart with the discipline of an adult is the end goal I think. I never been to ''real'' party once, i didn't know what to study so i'm now in my second year of working in 2 jobs, feling guilty for 'hiding' from the questions where i want to be in my future. Just seeing my sis study hard and going on huge trips and stuff. Seeing how my now ex girlfriend can draw compered to me. That i'm not keeping my perfect health, sitting most of my time in front of a screen. Just feeling pointless, yeah even useless sometimes. But i never really considered looking at me. I've growen so, so much since i finished highschool. And that it may be okay to feel lost in my twentys, cause like... Everything is new. It sucks how the educational system works. There are so many interesting opportunities outside school that I could have ventured but too drained to allot my weekends for it. Now, I got more time in life and am learning other things to prepare for a career shift. But only after I secure that emergency fund. Thanks for this, Sam. Ohhh you're so right about everything. I think that it is normal to feel lost in your 20s - in our century we have to deal not only with what our parents/grandparents had to deal with. Especially social media/career pressure/perfectionism of our generation can really make us feel worthless and make us compare to strangers on the internet 😔 So slowing down and having some introspection about your life is an amazing idea (even if that's hard to learn haha)

I told myself once I get this promotion this year I'll hit my career goal where I'm comfortable to get in a relationship. I'm 26, 27 in October. I was an organizer leader of a group years ago - but I met a girl in the group who ended up ghosting me. When I was seeing her at the group before she ghosted me, each week I began changing my motivation for running the events; I began going because I wanted to see her. When she left I found myself not enjoying running the events anymore and eventually I got burnt out and stopped. It's taken me nearly 3 years to recover to the point where my motivations are in the right place and I'm feeling ready to take on running events again. This time if I meet someone I'm going to be very strict with them - when I'm running the event it's all business, but afterwards, then we can hang out - assuming I meet someone. But my intention in starting the events again isn't to meet someone; it's to have a good time and deliver a good service. When we think about doing things, we often have motivations for doing them - my advice is don't ignore your motivations, don't lie to yourself about the truth of your feelings. If you aren't doing something simply for the pleasure of doing it then you are setting yourself up for disappointment; if you start trying to learn to play the guitar for example because you want to attract a girl - what if you never do attract a girl with the guitar? You may start finding that you losing interest in playing the guitar. Our truest motivators lie in our past when we were a child and also the significant experiences we have in life. Part of the key to finding what you want to do in life revolves around understanding who you really are - you're true authentic self, stripped of all your insecurities. This version of yourself wants to feel safe first, then you want to help others feel safe. In essence, we want to make sure we are cared for first, then we seek to find a service we can deliver to our community to improve everyone's quality of life. You are looking for that service you can provide that you love to do simply because you enjoy doing it; you feel motivated to do it as it resonates with who you are and what you've experienced in life. Just know that life isn't about the end goal; life is the journey. Enjoy it whilst it lasts. x

Your message here is so good, and so relatable to a lot of 20 somethings. I remember the 'lost' feeling really well, because what I wanted really strayed from the traditional narrative of a company job, getting married, and so on. I ended up starting my first business right out of school, instead of hopping through jobs looking for what I wanted to do, and have never looked back. It might not be the answer for a lot of people, but I think traditional education doesn't teach us about entrepreneurship and it's actually a viable path for a lot more people.

oh my gosh finally i find so many people going through the same thing as me. I've ask myself so many times "What should I do next after college?" or "What am I doing with my life?" etc. but i could never answer them and because I couldn't find a answer to these questions, it really caused a great deal of stressed. I found it so strange going through so many years of schooling and reaching the end of that and thrown in to the real world. I was so confused.

Graduation is definitely disorienting in a way! But funny thing is we’re not expected to know it all. We get to use our 20s to do that :)

I found the same thing, I graduated into a field I didn't want to work in just because I had to study 'something'. I started a business just before graduating and it provided a tonne of purpose and direction during that time in my life. (and I just chose a random business too, wedding photography, not at all related to anything I had studied or been interested in thus far).

I thought my degree/credentials were enough to get me a good high paying job, but not being able to find one made me feel even more lost. Engineers and other professionals aren't paid well at all in my country, not to mention I didn't really have the interest. I'm at a dead end. Eventually chose to pursue music even if it's risky. I still don't know what exactly I'll do afterward or if I'll succeed but I'll take my chances, at least I have some side income right now. It's my passion and pretty much the only thing that excites me. EDIT: I still feel like shit though, seeing my peers having good jobs/businesses, earning more than me, seemingly having everything set and figured out

I can really relate to that "lost" feeling and finding this channel helped me feel less alone and even reassured that we'll all find our paths one day in the future. I turned 21 this year and I left my job and got married in May. I had a job ready for me at the end of May but that fell through. Luckily I had quite a bit saved up to live on while I have been looking for a job. So far have been turned down for everything that I have applied for. I have been having so much anxiety and I have been feeling so lost even though such a good thing happened to me this year. Keep going people.

I´m 2 months away from turning 19 years old and I feel like I haven´t the motivation to do the things I want and I always end sad or not doing anything because i end up feeling that I haven´t people supporting me, it´s hard to do a thing and don´t talk about it because I feel that my family thinks it´s not as important as university or studying. I love animation and drawing and I´m learning to draw, i´ve been watching a lot of this kind of videos and i´m thinking of making a video like this myself, but my english is not as fluent as yours and as soon as i think about doing it my motivation just drops, that happens with everything, any minor detail makes me don´t want to do the things that I need to do to grow. I think that life isn´t as hard as before but is much more complex with the internet, knowing what everyone is doing makes me want to work hard, but I end up watching and watching videos all day and then feeling bad about it. I don´t know what to do with my behavior or how to stay consistent and a lot of problems comes to my mind when i think about ANYTHING. But now i know time is limited and just isn´t enough to stop and question every single thing. Everything is just to hard when i think about it but ends up being easy when i just do it. It´s harder to think about doing something than just doing it.

Having had a delay in my education and graduating University at 25 and not knowing what the actual hell my life is supposed to be about, as friends find jobs that I can't seem to get despite knowing that I am a smart guy and some find romantic relationships and get married kinda hurts. I organized myself by going into entrepreneurship as I kept on applying for jobs. My business is struggling as I have much to learn in being a poutry farmer about anything. Along the way, I've landed a blue collar job has completely nothing to do with my profession. It's financed my business failures and helped finance the expansion... All in all, life could be better and I am hopeful. For better days. Hope everyone here finds what they want to do with their lives. it's a process and the vision can only get more clear, it matters more that we start something.

Omg I'm 21 and I have been feeling so lost recently. In high skl, I was an overachiever but ever since I was diagnosed with bipolar, things have just been going down hill for me in terms of academics. I dropped out of university last year cos my mental health was extremely bad and now I'm luckily somewhat recovering but haven't thought of what to do in my life since. Cos I used to think i would have things figured out by now, like be in a good relationship, have a cool job, and be financially independent but none of that has happened to me, instead I've been really suffering and feeling super lonely and stressed about being 'unsuccessful' But thanks, this video made me realise that when we our in our 20s we are still young, we shouldn't expect to have things all figured out just cos society now calls us 'adults' and instead we should work on challenging our limiting beliefs and doing our best to slowly discover what our passions are because we honestly do still have so much of life ahead of us. Nothing is ever as big of a disaster as we think it is, we just need to rewire our brain which tells us that and learn to think more openly without imposter syndrome or societal norms or ideas about what success looks like bring ourselves down Everyone's journey is different, aslong as we are doing are best to look after ourselves and keep our minds in check when we doubt ourselves, that's all we can do and we shouldn't need to stress or feel bad about ourselves no matter where we are in life

Sam, Great video. It clearly is striking a cord with many viewers. The beginners attitude is brilliant. Suspend your disbelief and go for it. What about a “dreamers attitude”. Dream what you would like the world to be, then pursue it. Think big. Ask what skills do I need to make this dream a reality. Put every skill you now have to the test. Let nothing stop you. That is what folks like the founders of this country did. That is what every entrepreneur does. That is what every good teacher who believes in students does. That is what you did with this site. You imagined a mode of expression to help yourself and others. I think dreaming, imagining a better future, is so important.

@3:34 You said: "If I'm still feeling lost and confused in my 30s, then... oof." Oh man, it only gets more and more unclear with each passing year until it's all over. I think what changes is that you adjust to it and stop worrying about it. Honestly, you actually start to enjoy it the unpredictability. Why? Well, (at least for those of us on the higher end of the intelligence curve), everyday life (and even everyday pleasures) can start to become monotonous; It's easy to be bored. Middle-aged people have this reputation for being boring as a reflection of this fact that we're bored. The simple fact of the matter is that there are fewer and fewer things we haven't already done several times. Not knowing what we're going to do with our lives makes our lives a story where the next chapter is something worth anticipating.

Been thinking about the 20´s being different for previous generations as well. People had of course more restrictions to what they could do before as in having to settle down much earlier. But those restriction also made life more predictable and less chaotic. Edit: Top that off with no such things like social media that invaded your life.
