High earners who never learned how to manage money while they were low earners actually still have the same problem as people who are low earners today. That’s why the baby steps are applicable equally.
I'm a little bit over two years out of prison and it's tough. The toughest part for me was to actually feel like good companies would want to hire me. A part of my comeback was a strong desire to own my own business. Sometimes that's a good path if you have the ability to work a job and develop a business.
Anything in building and construction. Work on a construction crew as a carpenter or roofer for a year or so and become a 1099'er working for yourself.
That nod from Ken Coleman when the caller said he was just out of prison and trying to get his life together made me tear up. Ken immediately wanted him to win and is truly rooting for this guy. It was nice to see ❤️
Alex, I have some advice, head over to a Car Dealership get your foot in the door and Either sell cars or Sell Service. I have been in the business for 27 years (Mercedes Technician) and have worked with a lot of Car Salesman and Service advisors who have been to prison and are convicted felons that have made over 100k a year and even a few Service Directors that have been in Prison and are convicted felons. Today is one of the best times in history to get that job that would say no just a few years ago.
@@CRS-fe2zj study a lot. Don't over think it. If you don't think you can do it you're probably wrong. Study hard because it changes your finances and you have so much money to do what you want.
If he's working earning $2000 a month working 40 hours a week, he's earning $12.50 an hour. Since he likes the restaurant business, go be a waiter in a good restaurant and he can triple his income immediately. Do that 40 hours a week and get your foot in the door with a real estate office. Offer to work Sunday's for a month for free in order to convince them to help put you on a path to getting your real estate license. Most important be careful who you pick as friends!
Get your CDL..then work in the oilfield and save as much as you can..then when you get laid off ....get on unemployment..and look for fixer upper houses to buy with cash to either rent out or flip..
This guy should get into the trades. It's hard to find a carpenter who hasn't been to prison, and they can make six figures. Sales is good too, but many states won't give a real estate license to people with a serious criminal record.
You have sound advice on the Trades, There is good money in being a Journeyman of most trades and a lot of Job Security. Saying " it's hard to find a Carpenter or and other tradesman who has not been to prison " is BS. The Tradesman who build the that comes with being a master in their fields are in good company and are not involved with common criminals.
Best advice is never go to jail or prison. You will be financially wiped out. Ain't nobody taking care of your bills or stuff. I used to do maintenance for a apartment complex and regularly would clean out their apartment and throw everything they own in the dumpster. Very rarely did someone come and take their stuff. Most families didn't care about their belongings. Goodluck everyone!
@@taylorsmith9629 it was all done legally. Mail piles up. After the notice is posted we would break in and food is rotten and we would have to clean the whole place out due to not having a rodent problem. The management would want to get a new renter in. I found valuable jewelry, money and items. " legally" if the tenant didn't have anyone take care of their stuff it gets disposed into a dumpster. I won't tell you what happened to valuable items 😉
I worked at a factory 🏭 that had a program for ex felons. Them dude's don't play around. I saw fights regularly. But man, those guys worked. Fun times 🤣
Alex, I’m sending you good wishes as this process unfolds. I admire how well you expressed your story and how you owned your story. Much respect and remember we can do hard things. I’m so glad you connected with Dave Ramsey. Onward, Alex. 👍🏽
As a two time felon who also resides in Houston Tx, I can tell you what this man is going through. I got in a lot of trouble at 17 and 19. Got out. Got my head clean and stayed away from that environment I was raised. I’m in my 30s now with four different streams of income and more money than I’ve ever had. Just keep on pushing and have a network of people that know other people. And one of those people will give you a chance. I’m living proof of it
Great segment- We have chosen to mentor and guide a few folks in this situation. I loved what Dave told him- ( relationships- relationships- relationships )-
I love that Dave will reference John Deloney and get deeper into the caller. Really cool if you listen to both shows. I have a hunch that Dave enjoys John Deloney's show as much as I do.
I pray to God someone gives him a chance. He sounds like an amazing person and we've all done bad things, things we're not proud of and people will never know. I wish I had a company, I'd hire him .
Yep. Dave's absolutely right. There's a lot of people who would dismiss you for your past. But don't allow yourself. Your mindset to limit you and think it defines who you are. I do think things are changing & people are more accepting to people with problems. But it's a huge challenge. And understandably. On one hand your a huge risk. But... I've always said. One sure fire way to ensure a person with previous legal challenges continues to have legal challenges. Is to remove there ability to provide for themselves a respectful life. Just like what you do for yourself. I would argue 100% of people would continue to turn to a life of crime. Which invalidates the entire point of locking them up in the first place (not exactly, but basically). And worsens a society. It's a great way to increase the number of active criminal activities. If we are all to heal, someone needs to take the chance and help. But... as a person who had legal trouble... it's a two-way street. You do have a lot to work for. And you might have to take some flack for a bit. But it's totally two streets here. I But it doesn't have to be you and all employers. But we need opportunities to open up for these people or nobody heals from the event. Constraining people too much leads to a 100% failure rate. Opening the door too much leads to too much risk. Both approaches are unreasonable. You need a balance in the middle.
I don't know if he would do construction or roofing! Everyday seems like a disaster tears up a community! Someone has to restore those homes & businesses!!!
I know they probably wanted to respect his privacy but it would be good to know what he was in prison for. The crime committed could significantly influence How likely a given person is to hire him.
The best mentality to have is when you don't get surprised by new Stufv like Vehicle's , Money and things like that Just be Yourself , Sensitive , Generous , Grateful and Blessing To Others Who Are Grateful not Greedy , Jealous , Have Hatred and don't want people to succeed and think for themselves
@@Chris-0113 he’s most likely selling something in real estate judging by his profile picture You can get a job with bulldog security (ADT) if you’re in Houston and work from home that’s what my sister did good money if you’re good at sales
What in the heck kind of a financial coach who isn’t managing a large volume of investments costs $250 a month just to tell you what to do? At any rate, good luck to this man regaining his life and contributing to society. He’s got a chance.
If they're meeting you an hour a week, then that's not too bad. But in his situation I have no idea what a financial coach is gonna tell him besides "get a better job, spend less, and save/invest as much as you can"
If the felony was breaking into houses, home burglary, Texas will not issue a real estate license due to the fact that the person could be casing houses for burglary. If the felony was not home-burglary related, he could probably get a real estate license.
Even though Dave Ramsey is a Multimillionaire I love how Dave Ramsey is a sensitive person , he doesn't not get surprised if has a million dollars which necessary to live on and a Blessing From GOD If you know how to control yourself and be Generous , Grateful and a Blessing to others but doesn't show off he is just like any other person like Live On Less Than You Make , Live Like No One Else So Later you Can Give Like No One Else and Drive Like No One Else So Later You Can Drive Like No One Else
People make mistakes. The fact that your trying to put your life together says everything. Prison doesn't define you. If I owned my own company if hire you tomorrow based on this conversation.
My niece is 35, when she was 14 she shoplifted from Wal-Mart, still after all these years a lot of companies won't hire her because it is still on her record, the system is jacked up on issues like this.
Was she *convicted* ? Because it would he unusual for someone to take a theft conviction on a first offense. Normally they let you do a program, get the charges deferred, if it's your 1st and only theft case.
In California as a Felon you cannot possess any certified license such as Real Estate . Securities, and Insurance Also most states will want to see what your conviction was for before granting a license . Sales in general is easy to get into. I was once selling truck equipment and I think half of the salesman were felons! Best of luck to the guy. Sounds like a hard worker
Texas law requires texas Real Estate Comission TREC to look at how relevant and recent was the crime. You can get a real estate license with minor misdemeanors on your record. If you already have a license, it takes a felony for the state to even consider revoking it.
I believe most people who come out of prison feel remorse for the bad decision they made and never want to go back to that life style! They definitely deserve another chance
I saw the poll he posted. The group participants largely had no idea the value a coach brings. There was almost exclusive focus on the cost and not on the value. That's what was missing. For example, I'm a coach myself and quote between about $200-500 per month. But my average client savings per month with my guidance is $1700. Is that worth the investment? The cost is one component of the equation. Ask about the value the coach is bringing. That's what matters.
Bad pitch right there. As a coach you should be able to listen. He only makes 2000 per month. In no world does it make sense to pay 10% of fees to some "advisor", especially with a low income.
Violent convictions generally generate more prison time. Long term sentences are often served and those Men and Women are the ones who DON'T commit new crimes. Stop discriminating between "violent vs nonviolent"...
It’s not how much you make how you spend? You said forget your pass. You ain’t in that situation he is hard to forget. Some times you guys think before you said things.
Actually, there are background checks in real estate to obtain a license. I had to get my finger prints taken, and gave information on every little thing I'd ever done. We had to write it all out, and if they caught you misrepresenting yourself in any way, license revoked. I don't think you even need a license to sell real estate in Texas, though? But, with his past, he opens himself up to litigation, and is vulnerable, so I'd choose something else. Good luck to him in his future.
He's recently out of prison. Not sure why he was in prison, but now he wants to get into real estate because he is a "people person" . He wants to be a crook, but a legal crook.
People always fail to mention in order to make the 60-80k a year you have to work 14 hours a day So by the time it’s all said and done you’re making like 12 dollars an hour and you’re forced to live away from home and sleep at gas stations
I literally cannot understand why or how people end up in his situation. How does a young and heathy person get themself into prison. You could hold me at gun point and I’d still not be willing to commit that bad of a crime that can get me locked up. I don’t get it
Hot dog cart at events, sport games, concerts Guy on tik tok said he was in prison, no one hired so he got a cart and makes $300-400/day MATH he probably does 50-100+ dogs a day at $3-$6/each. EXAMPLE: 70 dogs x $4 = $280/day or $35/hr for 8hrs (not counting COGS cost of goods sold)
