Hey Becky!! When it comes to Kilz, ventilation, ventilation, ventilation!! We had to seal every wall, and ceiling in my in-laws house and I ended up completely blitzed from the kilz! I don't remember driving to the store to buy, not one, but two sodas. Made it to our dirt road and thought I hit a post. So of course I opened all the windows on the truck, leaned the seat back and took a nap. When my husband found me and got me awake, I was sitting in the truck facing a big field of alfalfa, no posts anywhere! My head felt like it was going to explode!! So learn this from me. Ventilation is your bestest friend!! Enjoy your videos and you two are doing a great job on your dream house!!!
I’ve been cooking with gas for more than 25 years. I prefer it to electric because I can control my heat better. The oven part is the same as cooking with electric. The thing you’ll find you love is the gas top.
I wonder if there might be a difference with propane vs natural gas. Growing up my mom had propane and we had to adjust the temp when using glass cookware.
I completely agree. Gas does such a good job I will never use electric again. I'm not sure what the difference is but my baked goods come out so much better with gas (we have propane) than the electric oven.
Cooking with gas(propane or butane) is much more accurate than electricity. Once you get used to gas, especially on the cooktop, you’ll never want to go back.
I’m so impressed with your husband’s carpentry skills. He is killing it 👏👏👏. You guys are a great team and I love watching how you work together. Thanks for all the great videos and ideas!
My husband and I are renovating two houses simultaneously - before we lay carpet, tile, or hardwood floors we wrote messages on the subfloor to the future owners of the house - humorous, funny, informative, or tongue in cheek, and let folks know who we were (are) and the dates we did the renovation work. We also wrote inside the drywall as we were installing it - talk about miniature time-capsules!
Becky, you are fabulous. I can't believe how much you accomplish in a day. It's really nice seeing more of Josh in these videos. I'm so happy for you two.
I’m impressed Josh!!!!! I couldn’t even tell the doors were not all the same until I saw the before!! Wow I love it. I’m also thankful for the tip about being intentional when it comes to finish work. So inspiring.
I am obsessed with how sweet the pups look running through the grass and flowers! ❤️ also just the other day did I realize that tibro’s name is orbit’s backwards! So creative! ❤️
Probably an Oak worm 🐛 Them suckers web from the trees and get all over you & your stuff. 💖 I Love Living vicariously through this channel. 44 yrs old now & this is still a dream for me!
We're getting spoiled with so many videos and updates, thank you Becky! - non-related, have you considered making black garlic? I started cooking with black garlic paste and it's been great with heavy cream sauces. Thanks again and take care
@Acre Homestead I saw it at Whole Foods the other day! You could get some to try while you’re busy renovating - I think it was $2 or $3 for a small bag (hidden with the spices and rubs in small bags) see if you like it and then know if you want to make more in bulk!
Kudos to Josh! I grew up in a family of carpenters and it takes skill (and patience) to do finish work like that…..and he makes it look so easy (which it definitely is not!!!) Looks awesome! So happy you’re taking us along on this renovation journey!
The other day I was watching your RU-vid show and you had henna (I think that is what you call it) on your hands. Had you been to a wedding, religious ceremony, what was the occasion? Just curious. I adore your show, learning so much. You are so environmentally conscious and I assume that has always been your life style. Just interested! You are so real. You film how messy you are and don’t hide anything, I love it!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to say I really appreciate you. I grew up with a mom who cooked everything processed and we ate out a lot. Since that was all I knew I couldn't even think of other options on busy days. Like when I was moving I didn't even think to meal prep. I just ate out. Which as you have said is ok, but I would rather spend that money on my house. Thank you for inspiring me and showing me the other options.
It's coming along!!! You are going to love, love, love your gas oven and stove top!!! The beauty of gas is that it cuts down on your waiting time for burners to get up to temp because your heat is instant. A small adjustment and once you get used to it you won't like electric.
I'm always SO excited when you post. You are a comfort to my heart. I swear I could watch you pain a white wall for 5 hours with no editing and I'd feel comforted. Thank you for taking us on this exciting journey in your life. God is good!
That one place that is dark against the wall I would maybe put another coat if kilz on it. JMO. The three doorway looks great. After Josh did his magic you cant tell the one door is lower. Amazing job.
I'm so glad you have more interaction from Josh! You two are just so cute together. Josh did amazing on that 3 door trim piece! 👏 thank you for Including us on such a wonderful jouney!
You should get a key lock box to keep at the house for these "just in case" or "emergency" situations. Or consider a keyless entry on a door. They are worth every penny.
I was about to say the same thing! A lockbox for a key is always the first thing I install and is a game changer. I also have keyless entry at home and couldn’t imagine going back to using a key 🥰
Becky's famous words, I may have made too much...haha! Love it! I'm surprised you didn't get any paint on the bottom of your socks!! I would be covered! Haha! Your hubby is super creative in the way he made that 3 door header! You got a good one there girl! Thanks for bringing us along on your journey!
Becky you may know this but I recently learned how to keep strawberries fresh longer… If you take them straight from the container you bought them in and put them in quart Mason jars with lids and then put them in the refrigerator they will keep 2 to 3 weeks :-) you just wash them when you take them out to eat them -it’s amazing!
Becky, Hello, I have long standing Covid and am now on oxygen 24/7. I have a daughter in high school that enjoys cooking. I told her about your channel so she can learn from the best!
From someone that has a gas stove, get used to making a mess if you do anything near that stove. They do make a “cover” for the stove, I think a noodle board maybe? It is on my list to cover the stove top and keep it cleaner. My stove is stainless but the top is black and is a magnet for anything and everything.
So Josh, have you ever thought of taking a working vacation in beautiful Missouri? The trim work you are doing is amazing! I’ve had some carpenters say they can do finish work, but doing and doing right are two different things. You’re definitely doing it right!! Your solution to the 3 door situation was brilliant!
Hi Josh!! That’s was funny. It’s frustrating but also a comfort to know that even you can’t break into your own home. At least you both were chill about it & didn’t get mad. Sometimes I think it’s easy for people to let their emotions take over their frustrations. In the end is a waste of your emotions & energy because it’s not going to change the situation. Thanks for another video. I imagine this has been hard to edit these AND doing all of this work & prepping at both houses. Josh can I just say for a guy who does IT stuff for your FT job I am very impressed with your building/construction skills. The trim & headers look absolutely amazing. Great job!
I have a comment about the propane stove and oven. Two Christmas's ago I bought a nice prime rib for our Christmas dinner. The recipe I used said to heat the oven to 500 degrees, put the roast in and after 20 minutes , turn the oven off and DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR for two hours. the meat was supposed to then be done to perfection! Un fortunately, when you turn OFF a propane oven, the heat had lowered to a temperature below the recommended level to properly cook the meat. I had to turn the oven back on and our dinner was three hours late! That was the "AH HA" moment I learned the difference between an electric and propane oven. Apparently, the recipe neglected to say that this method ONLY works for an ELECTRIC oven! Lesson learned! lol
I can't believe how much you've accomplished! Love the dump and paint technique, too. But wow, Josh is knocking it out of the ballpark with that trim. Just LOVE what he did above those conjoined doors. It's just thrilling to see it come together. Just pace yourselves! It's easy to make mistakes and get hurt when you're super tired. Don't know how you guys do it, only I watched my parents renovate an 1850s farmhouse so I do know! Becky, you are just wonderful. I feel like you're a kindred spirit.
You both need a key on your key chain. No forgetfulness. Lol Its awesome to see the progress on the new house. Moving is tough in itself, but remodeling and moving is even worse. Take time to chill and relax too. Burn out is not fun. Better to be saucy than dry. Looks so yummy, your making me hungry. Lol The boys are sooo cute. 🐶🐶 Kilz stain blocker is awesome. It really helps for stains, may take 2 coats on the really dark stains.
I love your videos. It's fun watching you make dinners, garden and all of the homesteading things you do. But I have to admit - you are killing me with your turtle neck, sweaters and sweatshirts! It was 99 today here at my home in PA! Keep having fun fixing up your new home.
All that I can say is that you two are so talented and you compliment each other so well. Can’t wait to continue this journey with you💕. Debbie in Missouri
I have a propane oven stove/oven combo and I would say experiment. I have noticed every oven has its quirks and it feels like learning each one takes a couple of tries. Mine is always hotter in the back, so I have to rotate most baked tray dishes.
hi Becky, ur really spoiling us all with all these videos 😆. I'm watching/listening while I fold and put away washing/laundry. ur keeping me company ☺️. much ❤️ from 🏴 UK.x
You inspired me to make freezer meals. I had 3 lb ground beef, two small cabbage, onions, bell peppers, fresh carrots and rice. I made two large casseroles. One unstuffed cabbage rolls casserole by adding spaghetti sauce and topped with Parm cheese, and the other is unwrapped egg roll bowels by adding soya sauce, sesame oil and cilantro. Even though they started with the same main ingredients which saves time, they taste completely different.
Lots of gas aficionados cook on a gas range and bake in electric ovens. The wall ovens look like the top one may be convection, too. You will LOVE that if it is.
Hi Becky, I have had a propane stove for many years. Always use an oven thermometer. Even if yours was professionally installed sometimes the temps don't hold true. Mine runs 25 degrees under what the digital read out tells me. It is also a good idea to give it extra preheat time. I hope you enjoy your beautiful new homestead. I surely enjoy watching you make it home.🙂
To keep strawberries fresh longer, store them unwashed in an airtight container (i.e., Tupperware) with a dry paper towel on top. As you use the strawberries and notice the paper towel is damp, replace it.
Is it bad that the first thing I do is look for a new video? I'm so excited to see your new home come together. Since you share so many tidbits to help us all the time, I wanted to share one. I've posted before how you inspired us to start a porch garden. We fenced in our back porch but the darn raccoons still got to our plants. We were told to spread cayenne pepper around the plants. It worked. We lost our green peppers, but everything else survived.
Excellent choice in using a "stain and odor" killer on the base flooring! We moved into a home where pets can utilize the spaces that other previous pets have dominated, and it makes a difference when you "kill" that space!!! Those odors may not be noticeable to us, but the dogs can smell them, and kilz is a great product. Josh did an exceptional job, beyond words, on that 3-way door framing! Unbelievable how difficult that would have been. Super impressed.
Everything looks great so far but that 3 door header is phenomenal, a piece of art! Also the chicken/broccoli alfredo stuffed shells looked delicious I think I'll definitely try that recipe❤️
You can have someone come out and calibrate your propane oven to make sure it heats to the temperature you set it to. Once that's done, it should bake like any other oven. The stove top might be a little more challenging because propane burns so hot, but you'll get used to it in no time. I hade a propane setup for about a dozen years, and it was wonderful. Good luck. 🙂
It is so satisfying to do this kind of work yourself. Then, when it's done you get to sit in your home and say "It's mine, it's exactly the way I want it and I did it".
Oh my goodness more Becky love love love her. I just can't get enough of this content. But to be honest no matter what she does I'm gonna watch. Keep em coming girl and keep up the awesome work. Really no idea where you find the time to film everything for us and edit in the middle of everything else that's going on. Wow you really are incredible
I love both of your houses, but the new one the most because of how open it is and the land. We have committed to not to go to the grocery store for the rest of the month as we are saving for a new sofa. It's good to set a challenge, you may surprise yourself on what you can do when you put your mind to it.
Wow, you're in a long sleeve, turtle-neck sweater-shirt at the end of June, while down south we're in 100+ degrees and a drought. What a difference. Beautiful, sweet pups, btw.
Becky! I love all your videos! I agree- watching you Kilz the floor was so satisfying! Looks so nice and fresh. Dinner sounds wonderful, but I can’t seem to find jumbo shells ANYWHERE. They are just gone from my local stores…looking forward to seeing more of your new home!
Becky get another key and each of you have one. I love that new house. That will really keep you guys busy for a while that is for sure. Love your videos.
the sticky sound of the paint on the floor was so surprisingly satisfying when you sped it up that I had to re-listen a couple times 🤣 everything is looking great; you two are doing amazing!
Denise from Germany here. Your brezels look like ours here in southern Germany. I'm English but love German food. Love your channel. Your new house looks amazing, happy for you. You are super busy lady.
Go Josh! Wonderful woodwork. Supper looks amazing. My husband and I (and the grandson we are raising) are uprooting our home and moving 2,000 miles away. We are preparing the home we live in for sale and there is much to be done. It seems you do one project, and another pops up. It will all be worth it in the end though. Moving closer to our children and grandchildren will be a big payoff! Once moved and established, I'm hoping to follow you a little closer to do freezer meals and gardening. I have both artificial knees now and is reluctant to start gardening but watching you causes me to give it a go! I think we will do raised beds so that I don't have to kneel. Anyhow, enjoy the new home and each other. Love those dogs!!!
Love following you on your journey of making a house into your home. So many interesting tidbits! You and Josh make a great team as well. Can’t wait to see the your finished home! The stuffed pasta I will be making this week for sure! 🌸
I love seeing how much you love and care for the pups 🐶 is Tibby the one going in circles at the beginning in the back of your car trying to get comfy too 😂…thanks for the inspiration. We just bought our first home and are trying to finish up the current project before our first baby girl is born in about 3 weeks 😅😂 so I need all the inspiration I can get!!
Wow your Josh is a master carpenter. That is excellent work. Ot is hood you have youth on your side. We did, too, once upon a time. Enjoy the process! You will be thinking about all this in your golden years. Trust me. YOU WILL! AND IT WILL MAKE YOU SMILE.
Well done guys! Doing a great job! I would probably paint the floor in the other room just to have it all covered? Food looks yummy as always, what a fab team you are 👏🏻 and what an amazing house!! Wonderful to see the sweet pups x
Becky my Mom had two un-regulated dogs. After ruining the first wall to wall carpet, webreplaced it BUT befor doing so we used Kilz on the sub floor. It WORKS!!. Seals in the stain & the odor. Good choice - you won't regret the labor!
Hey!!!! Always excited for one of your videos. I picked a whole lot of wild blackberries today and I am about to work on making and canning some blackberry jam!! 😋 this will be fun to watch during the process!!
I love Kilz their primers are perfect but definitely strong scented! I love the updates! I helped my dad in renovations and just like you I don't care to do the finish work which my dad is better at anyways lol. I need to get that paint roller because that made a huge difference and I imagine saved a lot of time.
Had a project this past year that the kiln just couldn’t keep the bleeding in check. We were having a primer shortage as well. Ended up using a shellac. It worked like a charm! Now I am seeing YTubers using the spray version in the same way.
Hi Becky! You can buy a silicone stove liner that fits under your gas burner grates. They’re easier to wipe off after the burners have cooled down, and if you want you can pull the whole thing off and wash it up in the sink. I haven’t noticed much difference in using a gas oven vrs, an electric, save that the temperatures aren’t as precise. But gas stove tops get a LOT hotter much faster, but they cool down quicker.
Becky, have you ever tried rinsing the strawberries in some water with some vinegar added? That may help them last just a bit longer. I’ve also seen some folks say that putting them in a glass jar helps but haven’t tried that yet 🤞🏼
I actually put them in diluted lemon juice to soak for a few minutes. Then rinse as im removing the leaf and core. Then i dry and put in a glass container in the refrigerator. I do think they last longer.
We used Kilz to paint our GIGANTIC office building, a few years ago. After working all day on it, my business partner and I were singing our favorite musical theater tunes while painting, dancing, having a ball. It was incredibly hot in there, even with windows open and fan on. We stepped outside to cool down, and pretty quickly realized, we were getting high on paint fumes! Ha! It is a great product though - it covered a MULTITUDE of stains and odd paint colors in our building!
