Here in Houston, it has been happening. Also, when getting gas, lock your door (by hitting the lock handle???) before you get out and then use the door handle to let yourself out on your side (drivers side) so that the passenger door is locked and yours is now unlocked, so no one can drive by and steal your purse from the passenger seat. This has happened several times and the news outlet tells ladies to be careful, but never gives a solution. I hope i have! :)

Hey Becky, I haven't used grocery bags for well over a decade so here's how I manage the system. I have 2 large "cold food" bags (look for cold food grocery bag on Amazon) . Then I have somewhere around 30 - 40 cloth and nylon grocery bags. I've collected them over the years, no need to start with that many, I'd say 10-15 is a good start. The main thing to look for when getting these bags is that they are machine washable. Avoid the plastic ones that can't go in the washing machine (trust me on this). The cold food bags don't need to go in the machine, you can turn them inside out and soap and water clean them in the sink and it isn't a big deal because you only have a couple of these and they don't need cleaning often. The regular grocery sacks I wash on a "quick cycle" in the machine probably every other grocery trip. Next is the produce bags. They are really affordable, like $12 for 15 or so of a variety of sizes. Here's the thing about these, they are mesh and they don't last as long. I sew so sometimes I will reinforce the seams but generally I don't. These are also washable and I toss them in with the grocery bags whenever they need it, which doesn't seem very often. The good news is that since they are mesh, even when they've had their use and split apart, you can still use the mesh around the kitchen for straining things :) Lastly, I put all the grocery bags and produce bags into one grocery bag (I fold them but that's just me) then I put that bag into one of my cold bags. So all my bags are together in one place, which is inside the cold storage bags. When I go to the market, I grab the 2 cold food bags and I put them on the front seat of my truck with my purse, that way when I get out of the truck and grab my purse... I can't forget the bags. I don't keep my bags in the truck full time because we have high humidity where I live and that can cause the bags to mildew. It was hard to remember them at first but over the years it's just become habit and I can't even remember the last time I forgot my bags. Anyhow, I hope you find this useful. Plastic bags are just the scourge of the earth, quite literally. I've been a scuba diver for many years and seeing all the plastic that end up at the bottom of the ocean breaks my heart so I just won't use plastic grocery bags. I even keep a small nylon bag (folds into a carry pouch) in my purse for trips into the mini mart :) It is so easy to NOT use plastic grocery bags, I wish more people would make the effort... yes, this is my soapbox issue :)

Something to keep in mind for freezing and reheating them - The croissants reheat much faster than the meat/eggs (in general only needing a few seconds), so I wonder if reheating them for 45 seconds (like you did with the other ones) would make the bread tough. It just more delicate than Engilsh muffins, so it might be less forgiving in the microwave.

Becky! I have THE BEST CHICKEN on the grill recipe for you! It's always a hit when we make it for company and they always ask for the recipe. It's super easy too. - 8-10 large sweet vadelia onions - Cut THICK slices. -skin on chicken cuts - we use thighs and breasts with skin. Using skinless is not the best, FYI. we make 12 pcs of. chicken Lay foil down on the grill, place the thick cut onions down over the foil to fit the whole foil. Lay the chicken on top of the onions -grill heat should be medium (300 - 325 degrees) not too hot! -season heavily with whatever seasoning you like. I use S & P, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, all seasoning, paprika...whatever. grill for about 30-45 mins on one side, flip the chicken, season heavily again and grill for another 30-45 mins or so. Make sure the skin gets nice and crispy. You will be able to eat the onions since they are cut think they won't burn. Place the onion over the chicken when done -- and serve! The chicken gets the flavor from the onions and it's to die for! Enjoy! Tina~

If you are concerned about stabilizing jars on your metal shelving unit, you can purchase a piece of paneling type wood and cut it to fit the shelves. Too many people walking by and can grab it. I have seen people do that at different stores. It’s sad, but with everything going on these days, people are really doing stupid things. I appreciate all the little tid bits like that in which you share with us. I sympathize with your feet hurting. My hubby and I purchased ergonomic mats for our kitchen to stand on and they have been a life saver for us. We didn't buy anything fancy and got some mats from roses and the other mats from Walmart. I highly recommend. Question: Would you link the round casserole dishes that you use? I've seen you using them in previous videos to cook on the stove top then transfer to the hot oven to finish cooking. Congratulations on your new house. It's beautiful. Thank you for the amazing content!!

Becky, I have been using the reusable produce bags for years. I have 3 different sizes of mesh bags with drawstring closures that have a bead that secures the top - no more twist ties! I just throw them in the washing machine then air dry them, because they dry so fast at room temperature. When I make my grocery list, I gather the reusable shopping bags and produce bags together, put everything in one shopping bag and clip the list to the bag with a clothespin. When in the store, I use the clothespin to clip the list to the shopping cart, leaving both hands free.

Fun shopping with you! We have heavy duty shelving units in our basement for our food storage, may I suggest making sure they are heavy duty because of the weight of cans etc. We also purchased rotation shelving called “Shelf Reliance” which stacks cans sideways and rotates them first in first out. Don’t know where to get them as Costco does’t carry them anymore. We also have a whole house generator for emergencies which runs on propane 120gallon tank (underground) since we live rural and have lots of power outages from storms. We live in Kentucky, we had lived in Calif for 30 yrs so its really different here. Just a little things we have learned. Best to you and Josh

I have one of the large oxo containers that I use for flour and it's definitely my favorite clear food storage container. I've had it for 6 years through 4 moves and it's still in perfect condition. The rest of my clear food storage I got from Ikea and the seal is crapping out on them 3 years in. After we re-do our kitchen I'm planning on slowly cycling them out for all oxo.

You can buy plastic shelf liners for those black wire shelves that you got for free. I did this with mine and once it has the plastic liner it makes the shelf just like a solid shelf. The plastic liners are pretty heavy duty and can be washed off if anything spills. Just an idea if you were unaware that they existed.

Awww....my old Costco & Winco! (I moved this time last year from the Woodstock n'hood to TN) and I'm nostalgic rn.. Those oxo air tight containers aren't worth the money; those tops can crack easily, I learned from personal experience. I've found better ones at amazon & even TJ Maxx. Glad you're taking some of the pressure off by using convenience foods... anyone who's watched even a few of your videos knows how frugal you are, how wisely you plan, grow & prepare your own food & you will MORE than make up for it once you get the new homestead online w the organized pantry & food prep area and finally, the new garden. Plus, you & Josh are on the ADVENTURE OF YOUR LIFE, finding & fixing up your forever dream home so you also have to ENJOY it!!! {{hugs}} from a former PNW'er.

I carry a reusable bag for all types of shopping. It took me months to remember my my bags every time but now it’s habit. I also have a bunch of produce bags and try to buy as much naked produce as I can. I suggest buying a few really nice bags that will last years and years instead of cheap flimsy bags that need replacing and can’t hold their shape. I use the essential storage tote from 31 bags. I don’t use any of their other products but I was gifted one of those bags and I fell in love. I bought a large set of produce bags on amazon that are 100% cotton, no plastic closures or anything. They can be composted years from now when they break down.

I used to forget my reusable bags all the time! Until a law came out in Portugal and all the bags started to cost at least 10 cents each, and now I never leave the house without one. I even have a bunch of them in my car in case I go on an unplanned shopping run 😅 people didn’t like it at first but it really cut down on the amount of plastic that ended up on the landfills, I think it’s great! You can always buy it if you forget, but they are usually stronger so that you can reuse them over and over again!

For the Tzaziki- you can strain the salted cukes over night with a little metal strainer and bowl. So the yougart and cukes strain over night. Getting the most liquid out of both will make an amzing Tzatziki. Then sparingly with the garlic, lemon juice, lots of dill, s&p.

Was right there with you. Not only good thing though you can replace plywood when some thing leaks on it but metal shelves just corrode. Those wire shelves are good for air circulation though for cabbages or squash. Simple living Alaska channel just made boxes that corralled a dozen jars. They were stackable and you don’t have to worry about the wire shelves.

Hi Becky! I love all the info you share when you make a video. In case you didn't know, stores keep track of produce inventory by weight. So, by putting both lemons and limes (or even green and red bell pepper) that have the same price per pound in the same plastic bag, you are messing with their inventory control. I too have thought about bringing my own reusable produce bags. I plan to use soft tulle that I have many many yards of on a cardboard bolt. I have just 3 of us at home now and did a Costco run just days before I left alone for a week. I filled my small stand alone freezer with the majority of the Costco food. My husband told me I can no longer purchase bread or produce at Costco because the bread got moldy and the produce went bad. I don't buy their bagged salads unless I'm having a party, and will mix it all at once.

OXO containers: I bought mine individually through Bed Bath & Beyond where I could use a coupon & get the actual size vs. what comes in that pack. I’ll absolutely love them, but yes, they are so expensive! I’ve probably had mine for six years and other than some scratching on the outside of the plastic from dishwasher use or metal scraping up against it with a measuring cup, they are holding up well. I used a vinyl cut machine and was able to label all of mine with what’s inside of them and I love it! Makes the pantry look so organized! However after watching your channel, I’m adding all of my bulk items to 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids and using more Mason jars! Also loved your Costco haul. Considering those pickles for sure! And yes, that pink skort is awesome! I may have it in four colors! I feel like if you lived in the south east we could meet up! I truly think we could be great friends! We think so much alike. Thanks for your channel and all of your insight. I appreciate you.

We have the Firman tri-fuel generator from Costco and it’s great! My husband ran the gas line near it and we can just hook it to the natural gas. He also wired it up so I can just flip a breaker and the generator powers the whole house. Cost about $1500 for everything (including a little deck shed we keep it in). Generac wanted $9000 for a whole-house generator.

I love this type of video! This allows us to see the different shopping experiences we can have around the world. I have always been amused to see that in most supermarkets in the United States the groceries were packed for you. where I live the bags are chargeable and there are almost no more plastic bags for sale anamorphose. So either you think about it or like me you forget il very very often, but I always have a laundry basket in my trunk to store all my groceries so it’s fine. in most stores our fruits and vegetables are in bulk and we have to weigh them ourselves. reusable bags for fruits and vegetables are super practical, here we can indicate on the scales what type of bag we use so you don't pay extra weight. The only huge stores with huge quantities like cosco are for business only. I think it will feel like Christmas for me if I go to a store like this.

When buying a backup generator make sure it's dual fuel. Run it on propane and you wont have issues with the carburetor gumming up or fuel going bad over time. If you have a large propane tank for your house, you can run a propane line for your generator. If needed you can still run on gas in a pinch just by turning a valve.
